I think he’s a very underrated prospect in this draft. He has a lot of tools you see in elite NHL players so his potential is high.

Dont forget that Cristall is playing near 30 minutes a game as a forward....its insane. So this is a deception when you're seeing him losing races, its often because is completly tired or at the end of a shift. Same thing for his lack of defensive awareness.

I think sometimes he's a little lazy on the backcheck and seems to leave the O-zone early too. But these are things that can be addressed.

@@nhldraftpros Agreed, its like this, and when you're playing so much, you have to manage your energy and choose your battles wich is IQ, its also in accordance with the coach instructions otherwise he wouldn't be playing so much. And by the way its the same case with Dragicevic. So a lot a falling in the trap of defensive involvement and its ok, its going to be good picks for those wich select them.

From ''the art of scouting'' book: Craig Button inherited his belief that defensive play can be taught from his father, NHL Central Scouting founder Jack Button. He cites Mike Bossy as an example of a player who proves it. “When Mike Bossy was going into the Draft, people were saying, ‘He can’t check and he can’t do this.’ It came down to the New York Islanders’ pick, and Bill Torrey came over to my dad and asked, ‘What do you think about Mike Bossy?’ Dad said, ‘He’s an unbelievable player. I know his family well and he played on a junior team that was not very good. He has an unbelievable skill set and you have nothing to worry about!’ So Bill went back to Al Arbour and said, ‘We have a choice here, Al. We have a guy who could score 50 goals in the NHL. Now, he doesn’t check very well and doesn’t play defence at this time. We have this other guy who doesn’t have the high offensive skills, but he works really hard and has pretty good defensive awareness.’ Al said, ‘You give me the 50-goal scorer and I will teach him how to play defence.’ And the rest is history.”

@@nhldraftpros Always goes with talent, talent is difficult to teach, size is impossible to teach, all the rest can be teached. They are kids and a lot of things can change until they'll become mens. You have to figure out how the kid will be at 25.

@@genestdaniel9882 Totally agreed! Some learn fast and some take time like you said. And talent is one thing that trumps other weaknesses a player may have.

Super high end skill but his defensive game, effort and off puck game make him a huge question mark. Imo worth taking a shot on between 10-20

@spinorama29 Ovechkin has 3 years left on his contract, after which he will be 40 years old. It's pretty much universally expected that he will retire after that. Maybe not...or maybe you are overly optimistic about how quickly Cristall will transition to the NHL?

@spinorama29 I think you're right. After the 3 years is up Ovi will probably do another year or 2 contract. I think he has the durability of Jagr and can play into his mid 40's. I also think he may try and get Michkov to Jump ship from Philly. I'd kove for that pick to blow up in their face. Haha

he will drop a lot further than 14, I love him, but from the scouting community at the athletic and others, I have tried to talk him up to are not having it. Poor skating is one thing but combined with poor compete, that is a major concern for scouts. That being said I have him high on my board at 15. If a team has 2 picks in the 1st round (cough) Detroit he is worth the risk

It's tough to project with players like him...some games amazing and others not noticeable. Look at his playoff numbers this season...1 point in 4 games. Have to be consistent and playoff hockey tell a story sometimes.

As a Flyers fan I'm interested to see where he actually gets drafted. Some people have him at high as #5 some have him out of the he top 20.

Hey Simon! I followed/tracked around 50 players this season. Hopefully can put out somewhere close to 40 videos for this draft class. Depends how the timing goes!

I'm torn on Cristall...the numbers are amazing but I'm not sure he has that 'it factor'. I could be wrong tho! This draft is going to be super interesting past that No. 1 pick lol!

WHAT POSITION DOES HE PLAY??? Watching those clips I seriously can't tell. He's at the point, he's at the right post, he's at the left dot, he's in the slot , he's in the corner then the other corner....does this team not have positions? Watch the video again and just focus on his positioning. He's not dogging the puck but he's just wondering around everywhere.

Yeah...his NHL projection will be a tough call. NHL central scouting has him at No. 15 for North American skaters.

He's put up some monster numbers in the WHL back to back seasons...I think he lands in the first somewhere. It will be interesting to see!

I think he falls to chicago 2nd first round pick because of size and skating. Hes friends with bedard and hawks will definitely want to make bedard happy. Those 2 can be lethal together. As a wings fan id hate to see this become true lol.

I came here after Bedard's comments at the combine. Bedard seems to have immense respect for this kids game. I'd take him at #19 if I'm Davidson and see what happens

@@domcagney2352 with the way bedard plays Cristal would just have to get open. His skating sucks but could end up being am advantage as since he's a bit behind everyone else to find the holes In the defensive scheme to get to while bedard sets him up. He would not need to be the driver of the line. He will score a ton of goals. Argument that a lot will benefit from having bedard as a linemate. But I think one of his close friends who has probably top 5 in draft as far as best shot and hands. If Cristal could skate well he would be a top 10 pick. It just makes too much sense for the Blackhawks to do this in my opinion.

@@kyleandroyna I totally agree. I think he’d be a great fit w Bedard but I recall the Hawks saying “if you can’t skate, you won’t be a Hawk” or something like that so I doubt they’d do it 😩

I have seen other people say the Hawks should still not draft him. I say why not take a risk on him you do have 4 2nd rounders anyway. Not to mention their first two picks were already great.

Why are all these guys (many of them) SO RIDICULOUSLY small AAAAAAHAHHHHH! I have SERIOUS reservations about how these skills are going to translate in higher level leagues, for a lot of them. They say this is such a deep draft, but... maybe for AHL pint-sized super-skills guys; for NHL'ers? That's a different story. There have not been many Theo Fleury success stories in The NHL over the years, while there have been a lot more "busts", when looking at 5'9" players. Good luck to them, but these reviews are getting concerning, that so many of these "prospects' are smaller than my 3 year old daughter! 🤪
