He says that while 'British broadcast news is among the best in the world', 'things need to change.'
The GB News chair and presenter said: 'I don't think we can remain on top of our game without reforms, financing structures coming in and changing'.
Andrew added: 'The BBC's biggest mistake would be to think that you should try and hold onto the licence fee as is. There will have to be changes.'

Andrew Neil was the only presenter I ever bothered to watch on BBC because he wasn't afraid to give awkward questions to politicians on both the left and right unlike the majority of other presenters whose bias was made very obvious.

Robin Day was the undisputed master of the awkward question. He once fired one at a leading polititian ( whose name I can't immediatly recall) and retorted " if you don't mind, please answer the question". Then came a split second pause, after which Robin Day fired up again with " and even if you *do* mind, I would still like you to answer the question"....... It was alleged at the time that many polititians dreaded being interviewed by him....... He made Andrew Neil seem like a pussycat...... Robin Day even pulled Maggie Thatcher up when she called him Mr.Day during an interview. "It's *Sir* Robin actually if you don't mind", he said promptly........

Trouble is, most people don't want their views challenged, they just want to tune in and have their current world view reaffirmed. I like Andrew Neil and I wish him and his team well, but I'd like to see a show with credible left and right wing voices, which can break people out of their informatiion silos. For those interested in US News, I can recommend Rising and Breakjng Points. Really substantive debate between the left and right, from hosts who aren't partisan hacks. Anyhoo, good luck Mr Neil, I hope the show is a reflection of the integrity you've shown at the BBC, where you gave both sides a good, honest thrashing, haha.

They just want to get rid of the BBC because of the economic model it operates on. Public service remit, no adverts, independent from government. Plus the Tories probed to put in management which would be friendly to them and cause it to disintegrate from the inside. Same with the ITV, watch their 50th anniversary documentary segment about the unions.

I’m in my late 60’s so have watched with some dismay through my lifetime how Marxist ideology has first infiltrated and then subverted an organisation that was once the envy of the whole world. Having nearly double the income of its next nearest competitor has inevitably led to trouble. The ethnic and diverse makeup of its staff being in excess of the country makes it a centre of propaganda. The latest ad for an entry-level job forbids white applicants so is blatantly racist in the correct sense of the word. That ad if it forbade black applicants would cause riots.

I do pay the licence fee though simply because I can't be doing with the hassle & really don't take kindly to bullies on the doorstep. Especially if they were to stick a foot in the doorway. Do you get any hassle? I don't even watch the Uk news & Welsh news anymore . My kids were happy when I was away from home as they could watch The Simpsons rather than news 😆

I have been living abroad for 13 years. Over the years I have been watching the BBC and other U.K channels. I have noticed their increased wokeness over the years...I used to watch Room 101... Its turned into a scripted show where everyone was just scared of being non PC and would talk about how they hate.... whater ever the acceptable thing was on the list that they were given. The Big Fat Quiz also changed over the years, so did HIGNFY.... Terrible left leaning, anti Brexit, anti Trump fest.

Please tell GB News presenters to stop "talking" in that children's TV presenter style blended with modern PR'ed politics over emphasis on certain words or syllables as demonstrated by the man guilty of criminal incompetence Matt Hancock.

We already have four left-leaning news channels, so nothing wrong with a new news channel being right-leaning - but I don't think it will be. GB News has to abide by OFCOM impartiality rules. It's probably going to be the most centre-ground news channel we've ever had. Another point of view from a different angle never hurt anyone.

I’m looking forward to the radio as I’ve abandoned my license, I won’t be able to watch GB news on tv. But I’m so pleased an alternative from the news “shows”

I'm gutted. I cannot watch GBNews legally as I don't have a TV licence. And I'm not about to break the law. Even watching on their website live would be a criminal offence as its a live broadcast. How on earth has the BBC the monopoly on what I can watch? utterly baffled.

I agree. Its not too late. Its perfectly possible to have a basic BBC that delivers children’s programmes, World Service and a couple of radio channels, news with good presenters paid modest salaries to present news without proffering an opinion, funded by the taxpayer. The ludicrous ratings-chasing, the garbage programmes like Bake Off on Ice and Dance Off, the bewildering phalanxes of radio and local tv channels, they run adverts abroad, show all be floated off to simply be what it is trying to be: commercial.

GB news is going to be a big disappointment. It doesn't know what it is. In attempting to be 'fair' and take the centre ground it will appeal to few. This country is crying out for a more staunchly right wing Conservative media like Sky news Australia and this plainly is not it.

Well, that is roughly my thinking as well. I think it'll just be a less woke version of the BBC. It won't really challenge the narrative that the other mainstream media outlets put out. Just look at the lockdown situation for example - and where has someone like Andrew Neil been on that(and I say that as a former admirer of his). If you look at something like UK Column, although that has quite a dour presenting style - they have managed to ask some very serious questions(and taken a lot a flak for it - hence their bans on YT). I can't see GB News doing that.
