Behind Andrew Wiggins 26 points, the Golden State Warriors managed to take Game 5 of the NBA Finals against the Boston Celtics, putting the Warriors up 3-2 in the series.
Andrew Wiggins has had such a bizarre career, but he's most definitely found a home with the Warriors. Wiggins is such a unique player because he bridges the gap between role player and All Star. Andrew Wiggins' defense for Golden State and his ability to score on volume when he needs to makes him such a special and important player.
When Steph Curry has an off night, or Klay Thompson and Draymond Gree are struggling, Wiggins is able to step up and brunt some of the load.
Wiggins is changing everything for the Golden State Warriors.

I hope that the Warriors keep their chemistry. I hope these younger players who are doing so well and are so important to the team don't get "greedy" or big headed and want to move on. The warrior's have their "3" but don't serm stuck on that. Team sport, team culture at Golden State. Let the chemistry continue as the "older players" teach, groom the younger and bench player to one day take controll of the team. That's how it was in Rugby when i played on a small town team in Pa. Older (A) players picked a youg newbe.and mentored him know one day this very player would take their spot. Once that happened the older A player stepped down to the b team. Found a new target that they liked and started the mentoring process all over again. The older player still stayed active with the team and at the same time taught a new player the game along with all the little tricks of the trade. I hope my meaning is understood? Not gifted with eloquence! Go Dubs, and congratulations.

@@FailingIsUnderrated after all this there are still people who don't have a clue how important Curry is on the court and off. Curry makes their entire system work, makes it possible. Let me put it in numbers you should be able to understand: 29-71, that is the Warriors record without Steph Curry from June 15 2018 until today. So with Steph, Finals and Championships, without Steph, Lottery picks. That was even true back in 2015 when an analysis predicted the Warriors would have won 38 games that year without him and missed the playoffs instead of winning rings. The Warriors dynasty is Steph Curry, and yeah lots of other guys make great contributions but they cannot get it done minus Steph.

Even without the scoring, Wiggins is an x factor clearly, defending the best player their against... He only shows scoring capability when everyone can't buy a bucket... But it doesn't mean he cant do it... He just accepted his role given by coach Kerr, those people that are saying that curry is the only consistent throughout the finals are blind... They didn't know how good JT is because Wiggins didn't miss a single game... If he did, JT would explode

Definitely the workhorse for Warriors at a strange time (to me at least) when Draymond didn't seem to have the usual full court impact on the Warriors like he is known to so consistently do. Throughout the Finals Wiggins just seemed to improve and become increasingly energetic, confident, and aggressive with each passing game. I would hate to imagine what the rebounding spreads would look like without him during the games 4 through 6 run. Most sports shows pointed out that for the GSW to ultimately succeed following their Game 3 loss that it was essential for them to step up and find a way to grab more rebounds despite being comparatively undersized and criticized as less athletic. In response, Wiggins managed what I will personally recall as legendary finals rising to the occasion performances by notching the highest single-game rebounding total of any player from both squads throughout the Finals with 16, and followed that up with the 3rd highest single-game total of any player in the Finals with 13 (and also managed to lead his team with 26 points on 12 for 23 shooting on a night when the Celtics found a way to stifle Steph into an anomaly 3-point goose egg outing. And to top it all off, despite not shooting the greatest during game 6 while also taking a significant dip in total boards after combining for 29 in games 4 and 5, he refused to not find ways to be impactful with other statl ines of 5 assists (series total to that point of 8), 4 steals (series total prior of 5), and 3 blocks (series total prior of 6). On top of all that, in a playoff run that seemed like Jayson Tatum was ascending to stardom, Wiggins managed to progressively stifle his play, resulting in significant bouts of time that saw Tatum go missing in some of the more crucial times of play late game where Boston has found massive success. Wiggins was a big reason why the Celtics did not manage to repeat runs to the extent of their game 1, 4th quarter turn-around run that saw a 12-minute span of game time result in an endless series of questions that evolved from how the Warriors had a solid opportunity at a title, to whether they were physically built strong enough, tall enough, and athletic enough, to take on a youthful and hungry Celtics squad that managed to embarrass them with their only home-court loss of the playoffs and flip a script in a single notorious quarter which saw them start with a 16 point deficit, and end as 16 point victors. Anyways I better wrap. it. up. Without Wiggs, I see Boston throwing up yet one more banner to add to the collection, but that man stepped up in historic fashion, to sway the game in the gsw favor both physically and mentally. Well done my man.

Wigg's defense during these playoffs blew me away. Made me think of him in an entirely new light, because you have to have some dog in you to be a good defensive player. Made me think of Steph and Klay - both chill, laid back, and nice guys on the outside - but killers on the inside. And he's got a motor that can rival Steph and Klay. Wigg's defensive improvements have made his game much more valuable than the one the Dubs traded for.

Perfect analysis. A many of talking heads, went and trashed Tatum, without lending understanding as to why Tatum struggled. It's called defense. I said to all who would listen after GM 1, that Tatum should be used a 2nd option and decoy because of foot speed. To add further to your analysis, which you demonstrated in this clip,is Wiggs foot speed. Especially his lateral movement quickness. Clearly, I said that what your seeing is Kerr's experience from being on the Bulls. For years,he watched Scottie Pippen doing exactly what he has taught Wiggs. Pippen would use his foot work to take away attack angles,to throw off your rhythm,so that when you finally got to your sweet spots you felt arkward. All game Scottie kept you from establishing a pace and rhythm your use to. NBA players have practiced games. Within their practice they discover their rhythm and pace. Once that's disrupted it makes you frustrated and dog ass exhausted going into the 4th. I also give credit to Wiggs performance to Klay's on court communication and Drey's in court communication. Drey is hollering out coverages and reads like a Drill Sargent. Psychological warfare at its finest. Boston players were clearly confused and intimidated. Much respect to not only Kerr but also Mike Brown.

Is he going to hit 26 points again? That depends on how tight the Celtics play the three point lane. They're so desperate to run Golden State off the three-point line it opens lanes for Wiggins to drive and either pull up for an easy mid-range or take it to the rim. I think those points are going to be there for him if he stays aggressive.

His efficiency wasn’t that good but now he’s an elite scorer who scores with efficiency and an elite rebounder who grabs all da offensive boards. Not to mention he’s an elite defender guarding the opposing teams best man every night. Elite player. Not me who said this, but he’s the Maple Jordan

Why should he not be the first option for a contending team? He is 27 and brings all the skills on both ends of the floor. In 3 years, he is 30, while Steph is 37. He could carry a little bit more load offensively, while still beeing an elite defender. I can very well see that.

@@chunchunmaru07 I’m not knocking Steph and I believe he does deserve at least one FMVP. I’m just looking at overall impact on both sides of the floor. Steph is only giving you scoring and spacing which is important…… But is Wiggins is doing what he can’t (and what’s needed) at a high level.

@@chunchunmaru07 Sit Wiggins down right now…….dubs ain’t winning nothing. What they’re lacking is what he brings solitarily. Sit Curry down the dubs may still have a chance………….but it will be very slight…..or not. His scoring can be spread out more because the warriors do have other shooters. That game 5 showed a lot if your watch more closely……with 🏀 👀.

@@chunchunmaru07 Was his contribution not important? Everyone else shot poorly besides him and Steph. But game 5 told another story. Everyone shot well and Steph didn’t and looked at the outcome. Wiggins had an even better game than the previous…….With stellar defense and rebounding. Dude has a double double as a perimeter player two games in a row now…….a friggin perimeter player! 😂

Warriors win the next game. Wiggins is their second best player after Steph. Wiggins just beat his previous career high for rebounds by five and two in consecutive games. There are several Warriors who have been politely holding back their games to not step on the OG toes, but when Wiggins and GP II and Poole are unleashed and given the full green light they will run over the NBA with Kuminga and Moody and Wiseman. No one will be able to deal with their athleticism and defense and ability to score.

Wiggins was really great. But he didn't showup during boston Run in 3rd quarter. Klay T's two three's when boston looked ready to run away was huge. We need folks scoring while leading (wiggins) and Clutch players making clutch plays. Jordan poole's shots were great, but Klay's shots were really really clutch and kept us in the game. Strength in Numbers!!! Lets Go.. Game 6!

I think it’s rlly interesting because if you think about it, the warriors essentially run off role players if you turned their specialty skill up to a thousand. Steph is a juiced up shooting guard, Klay is a turbo three and d player, and Draymond is a transcendent defensive specialist. Tbh Wiggins is probably the closest(besides KD) to be an all in one package star. That’s part of the reason why I think KD to the warriors worked because it’s like you gave a super star the best role players you could ever give him. Like role players that are so good at their role they’re also super stars.

You shouldn't upset the casual guys and fan boys. But you're right to an extent. He locked down the other teams best players every game . Curry cant do that .Guarded 1 through 5. Curry cant do that , O & D rebounding . Double double's , Plus blocks & Steals without fouling almost every game. Curry does foul a good bit ; but he's not the athlete that Wiggins is. The stat sheet says it all. It wouldn't have been a shock if he'd got MVP.

In the era of small ball switch everything on defense basketball, where you can't have anyone over 6'10 because they can't guard the quicker 6'3 guards out at the 3 point line, the hyper athletic wing player is the new 7 footer. With all players being equally around 6'4 to 6'9 in small ball basketball to allow switching on defense, points in the paint, rebounding and rim protection abilities are all now determined by vertical leap, not by height. A young Vince Carter in 2022 could lead the league in rebounds, blocked shots, knock down 3s and win DPoY as a power forward.
