I'm honest, I love the Let it be Album as it is. I love Spectors Version. And Paul McCartney still plays Long and Winding road live with Strings played by Wix Wickens..

I love Spector he’s one of my biggest influences. McCartney was just pissed because the production was too big for his weak vocals and it drowned them out.

Andrew, I'm a bit confused by it all, yet I love the details .I don't know if they realized how ironic it'd be eventually, but when John says "I'd like to say thank you on behalf of the group and ourselves, and I hope we pass the audition" as this was really the end of their recording career(release wise), it's a perfect farewell. they'd conquered pop music, and they "hope" to pass an audition. their senses of humor, even in bad times, was always there.
@gribwitch
@gribwitch 4 ай бұрын
Absolutely agree on the "passed the audition" bit. And Spector had the foresight to recognise this. That's why I believe he consciously added that part to the album. That's another thing we can be grateful to him for. Irony repeated itself again on "Abbey Road" when Paul sang "And in the end.... the love you take.... is equal to the love.... you make," Poetic and poignant, and the perfect goodbye. Intentional ? Providential ? Or both ?

I didn't hear all of it because I WAS sleeping. I remember "Across the Universe being his FAVORITE. A year later Jim was HUGELY disappointed in the Phil Spector version of AtU. Great work Andrew. I got out of bed on the wrong side this morning, but this video has cheered me up. Love the facts you dug up on the stairwell photoshoot. Exciting titbit about the Glyn Johns mix maybe coming out - hopefully that will have the stairwell photoshoot on it. Interesting that Paul only asked Spector's orchestrations to be 'turned down' in the mix, not removed completely. Cheers, James

Wow! I just got around to watching this video Andrew and my Beatles brain is going into sensory overload. I almost feel like I need to take notes to keep all the dates straight. Well done as always. Lastly I want to thank you again for your live chats, they've been a blast. And I'm absolutely gobsmacked (as a Yank can I use that word?) that you took my suggestion for 'Urban Spaceman ', though I'm embarrassed that I didn't pick up on the clues you gave at first. Andrew, another great video with a wealth of information! I wonder why Phil Spector didn't use the version of Get Back from the roof top sessions? I have a bootleg of the Glyn Johns 2nd mix, it's pretty good imop. I can't wait to see how they'll release LIB 50th anniversary version. Now I saw on FB that it'll be 8 CDs.

I just saw this masterful breakdown of the events that led to the album’s 1970 release. The release of the Get Back coffeetable book will get it’s release on October 12 and the various editions of the “Let it Be” remixed album will FINALLY be released Friday, October 15! I would be ‘amiss’ not to mention Sir Peter Jackson’s documentaries will begin streaming on Disney+ on November 25, 26 & 27, amounting to 3 two-hour high definition movies culminating on Nov 27’s release of the FULL rooftop concert! There will eventually be a DVD and BluRay release of it all, the date yet to be determined. I can’t wait to finally get back to where they once belonged! Thank you, Andrew!👍

Another awesome video Andrew. Over the years it always baffled me why the Beatles never used the original EMI building cover shoot for the album as I always thought it was far superior to the Let It Be cover. Thanks to you, I now know it was due to their facial features not resembling what they looked like in the movie! I’m glad though that they resurrected the photo for the cover of the blue album in 1973

A lot of fans don't like Phil Spector's so called "interference" on the "Let It Be / Get Back" sessions. But I think it improved the resulting album enormously. The orchestration he included added a sense of grandeur, and suits the songs well. Especially the strings and angelic choir sounds on "Let It Be" and "The Long And Winding Road." and the snippets of conversation and banter that he spliced onto parts of the record, DID add authenticity to the live atmosphere that it was intended to convey. He did a marvellous job in my opinion.

Really great video and in depth look at the johns mix vs the Spector mix thanks Andrew I hope to hear an official release of the johns mix and wonder how close it sounds to let it be naked as we know Paul was keen on johns as he collaborated with him for some of red rose speedway sessions. Jeff Lynne has/had a certain style of production which you can trace back not only to the successful era of Electric Light Orchestra, but back of course beyond that to the more complicated arrangements by The Beatles. It won't be a surprise to anyone that Lynne was hugely influenced by them, and indeed was thrilled to be considered the ideal choice to produce The Beatles in 1994. Any album Lynne was involved in - the ones you mention in your post, as well as Tom Petty's two albums (I think), Roy Orbison's MYSTERY GIRL (1989), and the resurgent ELO Part IX or whatever they're up to, have an unmistakable stamp on them which marks Lynne out as one of rock's greatest producers, like, ever. x

This video, plus the two companion pieces on the Let it Be sessions, are what KZfaq is all about for me. Informative, and more importantly FASCINATING, I watched these three videos off the belt and the time just flew by. Well done, Andrew, you've made three excellent videos here. Of course, we hope that you can do this with some of the other Beatles albums. BUT: there are other topics for in-depth reviews that I feel you have alluded to only briefly. The main one is a detailed examination of the development of The Beatles' BEARDS. Indeed, you could focus on the growth of the band's hair from the early days in the Cavernous Club right through to the newly discovered photo (which you dealt with on a previous video, at least I think it was you) of a photo from the brief sessions from January 1970.* Just a suggestion for an important topic for discussion. You can thank me later.* Cheers, Stephen x *I'm joking, of course.

@@AndrewDixonMusic Of course, I had to go and look it up, didn't I... Anyway, it turns out that no such video has ever been made. I believe that the relative hirsuteness of the band is in direct correlation with their musical progress. Indeed, there are points in SGT PEPPER when you can hear John's moustache tickle the microphone slightly. Given the direct nature of the effect that the band's respective follicles appears to have had on the music, it must be of vital importance that this topic be rushed out there before someone else can't be bothered to do it. x

The latest update on the 'Let It Be' that I have found came to me via a Rolling Stone podcast, dated August 26th. According to the podcast 1-one reason the footage of 'Let It Be' looked so bad was that originally it was shot in 16mm for television. It was badly blown up to 35 mm for cinema release. 2-Peter Jackson 'is still editing the footage' for the new film 'Get Back', and 3-Allan Klein was the man most responsible for the break up of the band, he was the one to force the band's hand most when it came to finances and putting 'product' out-including 4-pushing Phil Spector onto the band to polish up a few too many raw performances.

Andrew, I live in Buffalo, New York and I was pleasantly surprised when you mentioned the Mighty WKBW 1520 that I listened to constantly. I remember very well when they would play the exclusive "unreleased" cuts from the "Get Back" album. All through the songs program director Jeff Kaye could be heard in a recording over the songs "WKBW Exclusive". It was a very exciting time! WKBW also did a great special that they aired on Halloween night I believe in 1968 called "Paul McCartney Is Alive And Well.....Maybe" which followed all of the supposed McCartney "death clues". It was fascinating albeit a bit creepy. Cheers!

I always liked Let it Be. There was a 'jam session' vibe about it. It felt less polished up, but really real. I wasn't fussed about the Naked album title and packaging. Should have been called Get Back and had a variation of the original cover. Something about it didn't ring true for me. Musically it's great so hear the songs done without the 'Spectorisation, although I quite liked these additions. Good job on the LIB story.

In Let It Be project. The Beatles hired the wrong person in both film and album. Michael Lindsay Hogg had no idea how to create a good documentary. While Glyn Johns had no idea how to create a decent Beatles album. I hope they stick with George Martin and find a right man to create a documentary. And furthermore, according to this fascinating website, the suggestion that George recorded his final vocal, and indeed the final vocal for a Beatles recording for 24 years, on 8 January 1970 is not borne out by the fact that the vocal appears on the final Glyn Johns edition of the album, which is dated 5 January 1970. For free bootlegs re: Let It Be, on the website thetradersden.org (a torrent site with lossless audio) there's what's called an alternate Let It Be album mixed by Glyn Johns (Strawberry Records) - not the radio broadcast; an Apple Building Rooftop, Savile Row recording - which includes a Glyn Johns set of tracks after the 9 rooftop tracks (without I Want You (She's So Heavy); and Let It Be Deluxe Edition (Purple Chick) - 6 discs. I'm sure there are reviews somewhere for each. I am not an audiophile. But until an official version is released, I suggest that Beatle completists (is that a word?) check it out. Peace all!! And really much thanks to you Andrew for such in depth videos!!! Set my brain gears rolling - Love them!!!! Peace!!!!

The "The Long and Winding Road" topic on Wikipedia is very truthfull about the polemic stated by McCartney. This guy das very smart. The concept of no overdubs, tricks was dead before the work of Phil. Glyn Johns made even with bad track selection what Lennon wished but the rejected at all. Two times! Well done Andrew, you did a good job. I didn't know about the suits that John and George wore on the Get Back album cover were the same ones they wore on the 1966 US tour? Good spot on that. It could be anyone's guess to which Glyn Johns mix they will use for the forthcoming box set? So, with whichever Get Back mix they use for release (most of the tracks are the same mixes on all 4 compilations), they should also issue the missing tracks off the other mixes so we can programme our desired, best mix from the tracks. What do you think?

Having the bootleg set "A/B Road", and seeing the track listings for the bonus material for the boxed set of "Let It Be", I can honestly say that I'm very disappointed by the choices made for the bonus tracks. Yeah, I understand that it might be 'interesting' to hear tracks that would eventually be on "Abbey Road"...but, there are MUCH BETTER tracks that Apple should have used. Even a cleaned up version of "Suzy Parker" would have been a better choice than one more version of "Polythene Pam". How about "I Want You (She's So Heavy)" with Billy Preston trading vocals with John? The list of 'what they should have used instead' is quite lengthy. But, I'm not going to bother getting the remix - I've got a better assortment on the bootlegs.

Andrew: Your research is faultless. However I think you had to work from a very convoluted history. What a bloody mess it all was!!! Personally, I think Phil Spector was a mistake - but maybe it was an easy way out. I am looking forward to the Glyn Johns mix but otherwise it seems a bit like scraping the barrel of the whole ill-fated (?) exercise. I feel a bit deflated by all the speculation and on-going histrionics regarding what may be a half-hearted attempt to continue a reputation.
