Shallowing has always been an elusive challenge for me. This is one of the better tips on KZfaq for shallowing the club along with what-not-to-do and the reasoning behind it. Well worth it, thanks!

Andrew, this is great stuff. Every time I finally stumble across an idea while I am flailing around in the dirt, you seem to have a great video that addresses it. I really need to schedule a lesson with you next time I am down in Savannah (my home town, most beautiful city in America).

This was a game changer for me 3 years ago. Went from a 24 handicap to a 1. For me it’s the feel of butt pointing at the ball and the dropping of the tray with the trail hand. If I think roll left hand knuckles I tend to close the face down too much.

Thanks. To me, this helps understand the upper and lower body link during the downswing. I can actually feel the torque and control at the bottom. Can’t wait to ingrain it with lots of practice.

Great video, as always Andrew. Should we practice this drill with ALL full shots (driver thru wedge)? Also, do you have a link to a similar video you did a few years ago, where you show another drill, an over-exaggerated one, where the golfer folds down the wrist almost at address?

Spot on, as usual, shallowing the shaft properly might be what you like to call "a true fundamental." The rotating part is worth emphasizing, particularly with the 60 and over club that I recently joined. Flexibility is now something I have to pay increasing attention to.

The feel for me that works well with the twist/bow on the downswing is undoing a really tight jar with the last 3 fingers of the left hand (I'm a right handed golfer). I think I saw it in a Brad Hughes video. It's a good feel but as in Andrew's slo mo downswing at 07:52, the actual amount of bow isn't much (compared to earlier example), nor does it need to be. As Mr R. points out, exaggeration is good when practicing. Club face control equals good golf. Thanks for another informative video Andrew :)

Perfect video! - and really well done pointing out why most of the lay the club off videos are complete BS as all they are doing is creating massively open faced positions that amateurs will never recover from. The guys on the Athletic Motion Golf channel, who have a lot of GEARs Videos comparing Pro to Amateur videos, pointed out in one of their videos, that one, if not the BIGGEST difference, between Pros & Amateurs swings, is the amount of TWIST Pros put on the club, very very early in the downswing - whereas Amateurs put almost None. If you can square the face early in the downswing, you can do all the other things that generate power and accuracy, whereas if you don't, everything you do is a compensation robbing you of power and accuracy in order to catch up by impact. It is only a source of power and accuracy if your apply torque on the grip early in the downswing - otherwise do not lay the club off because it will only lead to very bad things happening.

Great tips! Noticing in a few of your videos that your camera hunts for a focus point. Try locking in the focus on your tray of golf balls and resist the urge to walk towards the camera after you lock in your focus point on the golf balls while your moving around in your frame. This should fix the camera from hunting around while you're moving around in your frame.

Look up “Moment Arm” for the reason to shallow the club. Understanding the “Moment Arm” also explains why having a steep shaft hurts your swing. Also look at your demonstration. You create a moment arm but when you do a close up to show the bow in the wrist you are removing the moment arm! Otherwise an ok demonstration.

You and every other pro that teaches shallowing the swing, doesn’t actually shallow the swing. You pros like the theory but don’t actually perform the shallowing. No bowed wrist, club wasn’t behind you. On your wall drill you got close. But you pros have your swing all ready set and it’s really difficult to shallow the swing.

Shallowing the club is a myth. Please stop preaching it. The pros don't do it and certainly you did not do it on your slow motion shot. However, you do have good points on how to avoid opening the club face and tilting your shoulder incorrectly. But the mistakes mainly come from attempting to shallow the club which is not the point.
