unfortunately, this was the deciding factor if i pursued rooting my galaxy s8. it is currently locked with loads of data and im not sure if finding out is worth wiping my device

You can install TWRP recovery, then take a backup of your data and copy it to your computer. Then go ahead and root your s8 as Samsung has a habit to load their devices with bloatware and useless apps!✌️

Try playing a video in fullscreen (the blue button which is demonstrated in the video) or when you play a video, click on it and in the left middle section, a button will appear as 'contain' or 'fill' or 'stretch'. Cycle through that to see if that fixed it!?

Ryan Fitzpatrick you can activate the 720p and 1080p support in thr developer settings of the android auto app -> open AA on the phone without connecting it to the car, go to "info" tap on the middle top bar several times and the develop settings will be active, click on the three dots on the upper right corner, go to dev settings and scroll to the bottom to activate 720p and 1080p. Then you will have to find the resolution options of your AA system^^

No, it is not because of that. Unfortunately this app has been blocked by google and you have to install an older version of play services in order to get it working. Check description for more info

@@TechieRannjodh Thanks for your quick reply. When you use the older version, it prompts you to update when you first launch the app. That sort of puts you back to where you were before. I can't seem to get around this problem. Any ideas?

Well all i can think of right now is to try and disable internet connectivity (Wifi and/or Mobile Data) and try again. Though i am sure the developer would soon come out with a crack. Till then, I am not quite sure ✌️😀

I found at the bottom of the menu, scroll all the way down almost like Developer options on phone "Version number", click on that multiple times and it will do it

Since it has got Sync3 Infotainment system which won't allow videos. Guys this works, all I have done to my phone is to root & then this video to help you : 1. Unlock Bootloader 2. Install TWRP 3. Sir, google have banned the app once again to prevent carstream to work. The folks have been working overtime!✌️ Another update of the carstream app will solve this, in the mean time, try downgrading the Android auto app by installing a apk from chrome!

Sir i understand your problem. Firstly, go to google play store and disable auto update in its settings. This will stop the downgraded play services and AA app from auto-updating. Now, you may know that there was a recent AA app update which has blocked the carstream app (it last worked on 23/7/18). Thus i would encourage you to either downgrade the AA app to an older version, or wait for the dev of carstream to upload a new patch to overcome google's security patch related to carstream! ✌️

Sir, I think in the video there is a small change. The phone must still be connected when opening carsteam 2.0 on the phone and when giving unlock root and then post that stop must be clicked with the phone still connected with the cable and phone must be unplughed after stop server and then restarted. Then again plug on to the XUV's infotainment and ooen AA and then Carstream is seen in the speedometer thingy icon click. This is how I made it to work in my XUV with GPServices 12.6.85 and AA 3.4 and Carstream 2.0 with a rooted OnePlus2. In the video you actually unplug when giving root access. Guess that doesn't work as we aren't sending any message to the system doing it unplugged. Anyway you know it best sir. Correct me if I am wrong simewhere. Just wirked for me with the way I said above.. Eventhough it all works now, the resolution on the 7 inch screen is too much, i mean too big and youtube videos doesn't play full screen and doesn't fit in the 7 inch display. Seems like the video plays for a 20 imch display. It is all so big and with Plex nothing works as the size is too big to operate. After a struggle i rooted the OnePlus2 and made everything work. But now this resolution problem is killing everything. Please help sir

Thanks for the tips but using the 11.9 GPS and the playstore version of Android Auto says please upgrade GPS(upgrading stops everything. Once GPS upgrades to 12.8 whatever you do, carstream doesn't work afterwards even the oversized versi9n doesn't work).. if i dont use your version and if I try AA 2.9 version then it gives communication error 8.

Anything which runs the stock android auto app as the app has blocked it. You could, in theory, try to install an older version of Android auto and use that but I don't think that will work as the app may be blocked from the cloud.

@@TechieRannjodh If I understand you correctly, everyone does not have this working anymore even if your phone is rooted. I hope they find away around this preventing Google from interfering.
