Unlocking and Rooting. They're two words that we throw around all the time, and sometimes it seems like they're used as synonyms. They aren't the same thing, but it's not hard to see why there may be some confusion. Let's tackle unlocking first, since that's what comes first in the process.

no im not happy but i have to admit that im a little bit impressed. i like you... you actually know stuff about your phone and because of this i like you even though you own and use an iphone. i hate apple users who are just straight up stupid and have no clue what they are doing and what hardware they are running on. you seem nice...

I would love just to be able to root my devices (without being too scared of messing up) and install custom ROMS and learning the vocabulary required throughout this awesome new series.. Thanks!

In short, it's a collection of over 200 Linux programs in a single one, made specifically to provide most basic UNIX functions to low-memory systems (the original goal was to be able to boot a whole Linus system from a floppy). Since then, it has been used on a very wide range of embedded platforms (routers, Android phones, etc.)

In Linux, root is the system administrator account, with full access to 100% of the system. The superuser, or su, is a user that can perform most administrator stuff, without invoking full root access, thus being more secure than full root access. In Windows, every standard non-limited acount is root-equivalent. UAC introduces su-like system protection by requiring user intervention for some potentially insecure actions.

You forgot to mention that super user (the app) can behave as a deterrent against rouge apps, as it prompts you everything time a new app requests write permissions and access to other sections of the phone OS

My iPhone 4S has an A5 processor, dual core cortex A9 if i'm not mistaken, it has either 512mb or a gig of ram, not entirely sure and as you said i'm not allowed to google it, and it has a 3.5" 960 by 640 pixels capacitive touchsreen, iOS apps are written in C++, happy?

root/su is not the same as the admin mod in windows. and actually i meant in linux generally not only in android

hello ser, good day, i have a question, im working in japan now and bought an android phone, i saved personal files, pictures and videos from it and deleted it, my phone is not openline so i cant use it to my home country when i get home, i want to go to shop here in japan they can openline my phone so i can use it in my country, my question is can they retrieve the files i deleted by that procedure to openline my android phone. thank you

Unless you backed up your data, there's no way. If you did back up your data (videos, photos, apps), restore your device.

'preciate that dude! Haha, I must say I do miss android hacking.. I think I might get one again when my contract's up to mess around with it and keep my iPhone if i fuck up sometime. I do have my iPhone jailbroken though, if that makes me having an iPhone any better ;)

Dude not cool, i know what i'm doing, I have an iPhone, doesn't make me a noob and it's not a childish phone. The big point for me was; it just works. I do, though, miss the rooting stuff from android, so might get one as a second phone.. ;p

it just werks. i hate that sentence. anyways you implied that you sren't a noob so then please tell me: which processor does your iphone have, how much ram does it have, in which programming language is iOS written and the last part what kind of touchscreen is your phone (iphone) using. if you can answer this stuff without using wiki or some other site i will happily admit that you aren't a noob. until then have a nice day

Let me educate you, While you were playing doctor with your boyfriend, I was Saving money to buy all the stuff you wish u had, Computers, phones, tablets, laptops and what not. so I just happen to have a few Android phones and tablets as well as iphone, ipad and a mac. I know almost everything there is 2 know about iOS Vs. Android. BTW, 90% of what I do with my SGS2 ican do with my iPhone. And it looks and feels Great.
