Being a Newcastle fan I obviously find it hilarious but can see why the Mackems are so angry about it, I’d be foaming if it was the other way around. As a little side note Darren Bent is probably the only ex Sunderland player that I’ve always really liked, was such a good player and massively underrated imo.

Sunderland did not decorate it. Sunderland gave newcastle green light to use that bar and permission to cover over any safc branding. The mistake was not speifying how to cover it, so let newcastle put whatever they want up unchecked, only when the photos emerged of the newcastle branding, there was questions raised and it was removed.

@@nicolemonkeviciene791 no there was no backhander , the tickets were being sold for a premium.price to go in the bar or watch match from there etc Sunderland let newcastle have the bar for the day and said you can cover up the safc stuff. Newcastle marketing team have went in and put that stuff up. It was took down within a hour once sunderland saw what they put up. I think sunderland thought tbey might just put up a couple.of flags etc

I remember watching Sunderland TiI I Die that a lot of their awful staff werent local (that woman from Ireland for example who spent most of her time complaining). Maybe that is part of the issue, because the foreign owner isnt micromanaging these kind of things.

TalkSPORT need to do a bit of research here. The cheer up Peter Reid sign has been in the bar for years. Remember it’s a pro Sunderland song which Sunderland supporters came up with originally when they gained promotion to the premier league in the 90s. It’s on KZfaq. Cheer up Peter Reid is not anti Sunderland and also it wasn’t Sunderland staff putting the signage up. The club allowed them to have the bar but requested they cover up the safc signage with neutral colours Incase it was vandalised. The naivety was that they expected them to do this and instead they put up their own signage.

Cant see the story in it really. Foreign owner with no local connections trying to be welcoming and friendly, is ill-judged, maybe odd that of all the teams to do it for its their local rivals and the signage makes no sense in itself but really its meh. They've previous owners that went full-kit w(nker in their 50s to these games.
