Dear Lads, hello. I am 99 yrs old. I watched the Andy Griffin Show, never missed a show. I remember when this episode came on. My husband and myself thought this was just beautiful and we would have loved to buy it . But we didn't know where yo buy it. It was just so haunting but yet timeless. My time here will be up soon, but I got to watch some of the best TV in history. The crap they have on TV and the movies today is just filth. I am honored to have seen the most wonderful shows and movies during the 1940s, 50s and some of the 1960's. And Don Knotts was my favorite of all time. I remember standing in line at the cinema to see The Ghost and Mr. Chicken when it was new released. We couldn't stop laughing. You don't find good clean entertainment anymore, today it's just FIFTH. Thank you Lads for putting this on here. God Bless. 👵 PS we loved Maggie and her father and you Boys. ❤️ and Ernest T. Bass🤣👵

Your intuition is correct. The writers were going for a laugh (hear the laugh track when Mr. Darling wiped his eye?) but Andy Griffith sensed the writing was off and changed his character’s physical and verbal responses to match the gravitas of the scene. In so doing he turned a brilliant musical performance into one of television’s most poignant moments.

There is something about her voice and the innocence in her look that captures that era. Having seen these shows on first run and in comparison to tv today the contrast is unbelievable. I lived in homes that looked like that here in the south and was exposed to music like that in the Appalachians. I listen to everything from classical to metal but thoroughly love the honesty and purity of bluegrass and mountain music. Truly one of the greatest songs of the genre. I think for just a moment there Andy was thinking" and here I have been dodging her all this time. ". These images are now in dusty memories, the sounds fading in our ears. But here on YT we are still able to access them for now..

There 'was' a time when Maggie was only 23 (1964), when performing this outstanding ballad! I never heard a better song on TAGS than "There Is A Time." Rest In Peace, dear lady. You made each of those 6 episodes, far brighter, funnier, and exciting to watch from your presence and attitude. I remember one episode where you whistled with your fingers in your mouth, just like a man! Your songs had a message to them, no more than in "There Is A Time" ("The Darling Baby" episode, aired on Dec. 7, 1964). She lost her husband Gus Mancuso last Dec. (2021), him 88, after 43 years (1968). Very common for the surviving spouse to follow within 2 years, and in this sad case, only 5 months. This Alabama woman has loved this song since I first heard it when I was a kid and my granny was playing an "Andy Griffith"rerun. During this period of corona virus turmoil, this song is a joyful reminder. I am an American professor who's temporarily in Kurdistan, Iraq, and this song brings me joy always!

There is a time for love and laughter The days will pass like summer storms The winter wind will follow after But there is love and love is warm There is a time for us to wander When time is young and so are we The woods are greener over yonder The path is new the world is free There is a time when leaves are fallin' The woods are gray the paths are old The snow will come when geese are callin' We need a fire against the cold So do your roaming in the springtime And you'll find your love in the summer sun The frost will come and bring the harvest And you can sleep when day is done

As a child I watched this show with my father every night before bed, and this song seemed so sad for me, and it made me tear up when I heard it....I didn't hear this for years but found myself humming this tune a few weeks ago, and searched for it, finally finding it here. My father and I loved this song.....he's been buried for five years now...and whenever I hear it...I still tear up.

Fever Pitch I tear up to when I hear it. I grew up in the south. This song reminds me of those golden summer days long dead and past into darkness forever. Many memorys well up. And Im taken back to times I can never revisit except what little scraps I have in my mind. And I can see the seasons rolling bye over the years again. And the creek filling back up with the spring rains before summer. And the long grass rolling across the plains in the wind. It brings it all back. Then it all dies again when the songs over. But I can always revisit those golden days in the South with this song. May your memories live on through the ages friend. Have a good day.

Here's a little Dillards (Darlings) trivia. That's Mitch Jayne (with the pipe) on the double bass, Doug Dillard on banjo, Dean Webb on mandolin and Rodney Dillard on guitar. And when Andy stops playing and just watches...that is beautiful. And the song still brings tears to my eyes!
