There was no reason to pick him over AJ, that doesn't mean he isn't a great fighter because he obviously proved it. Ruiz hadnt beaten anyone prior to AJ fight however AJ had wins over whyte, klitchko, povetkin and Parker, so AJ was much more proven then ruiz.
