What does a bean mean? Andy’s daddy issues finally come to light at the Garden Party hosted at Shrute Farms. The Office suffers through the carnival of cringe and yet band together to support the Nard Boss.

This was one of the times Andy was humanized. And Jim's prank on Dwight was hilarious.

Ed Helms playing a role with such a relatable humanity, I absolutely love. Andy in the Office, Matt in Together Together, whatshisname in the Clapper, the Once-ler in the Lorax (yes that one, lad has mommy issues galore), just any time we get a peek into his characters that just explains so so much. The facade vs the vulnerability. Exquisite juxtaposition.

I love that this video is perfectly coincidental with the office ladies upload of garden party. Like what are the odds? You have probably been working on this video for a good amount of time, and office ladies just so happen to put out a decent amount of padding or filler content, and then in like the same week I get a double dose of garden party😂

Thank you for this review of the Garden Party episode of “The Office.” You made some good points and I enjoyed watching your analysis. I agree with you that this episode is hilarious and cringey at the same time. I also think that this is around the beginning of the downfall of Andy Bernard. He tries so hard to impress his parents and his boss, but he ends up alienating everyone and making a fool of himself. He becomes more insecure, selfish, and annoying as the season goes on. I feel bad for him, but I also can’t stand him in the last two seasons. Thanks again for your video. You are awesome! 😊

I generally consider season 8 to be the low point of the show. But this episode is one I remember well, even over a decade after watching it. Visits to Schrute Farms are always a winner in my book and wasn't disappointed. Jim's pranking is top notch here and we get more of a glimpse into what makes Andy tick.

My opinion: the first half inside the office is not really all that funny to me, but i think the moment that they arrive on Shrute farm it becomes much better. The peak of cringe for me is when Pam and Angela both toast on their baby Philip I felt really bad for andy in this episode So i would give it an 3/5

I hate Andy. Nobody can convince me it's a good character. The writers use him as a hole filler. He's anything and everything the writers want him to be. He's an inconsistent mess from the beginning to the end. Any episode with Andy in the center has an automatic negative star from the beginning.

This is probably the episode I feel the most mixed about from season 8. It feels like a lot of great character moments are happening but the overall idea of the office accepting Andy feels a bit repetitive. Especially after the first 2 episodes. Don’t wanna say overkill but it gets more and more lost on me when I watch it again and again.

I really dislike the prank in this episode. The whole concept of Jim writing a book (or editing an existing book), and somehow making Dwight buy it, is so far-fetched that it really breaks the immersion. Yes, a lot of things are ridiculous in The Office, but how would Jim even have the time that it would take to write a whole book? I dunno, it seems too far out for me.

@Cdr2002

@@zmudilago I always interpreted the events of the episode in a way where Jim wrote his joke book in preparation for the day Dwight would throw a garden party, rather than for Andy’s party specifically. Presumably, Dwight brought garden parties up during a discussion of new ideas he’d had to profit off of Shrute Farms, along the same lines as turning it into a B&B

I agree. That's serial killer level obsessive. At least the Altoid thing was just during the course of a day. This is creepy obsession for a prank that will cost you tens of thousands of dollars. Family Guy or The Simpsons would use this sort of craziness as a one off gag. And the end goal was.....to make yourself smile and leave everyone else confused and annoyed.

Jim tricking Dwight into mispronouncing his baby's name? Kinda terrible. How is that funny? That's just being an a-hole. And self publishing a book...just to prank someone at a cost of thousands of dollars? That's stupid.
