I think that also intent vs impact is present in this episode: Just because someone is being bad to everyone (Nellie) doesn't mean they are 100% evil but also just because someone has a tragic past doesn't justify their bad behavior.

Maybe nellie would've not been so hated if they didn't try to force her down our throat the entire time She comes, she just sits on the chaair and nobody stops her, robert california being a total simp and doing nothing, but what made mad the most is that non of andy's friends tried to stand up for him, when she keeps threatning him to give him a pay decrease and everyone is just like: eh Worst way to introduce a character, and even a worst way to try to get the audience to love him or her

Hot Girl isn't as bad as many consider it because, along with The Fire, it sets up Booze Cruise nicely, and Booze Cruise is a pivotal episode for the whole series.

@@shannonceleste5557 How she took Andy's job in an illegal manner and then came groveling back in order to adopt a child for whom she was obv not qualified for. She then tried to dock Andy his pay and had Angela so happy to fuck him over because of the "sisterhood", she was just a supreme cunt, what she did was egregious and illegal, backed by Robert California, the most evil and odd POS in the entire show. The writers clearly made her into a female Michael Scott with absolutely no redeeming qualities. Her BS confident attitude got me so angry at her and then they just made her do a 180 and said yep she's nice now... Lol, wtf no?! Andy IRL had so much cause to fire her but I guess people liked the character enough that they kept her? It was weird and off and made no sense in the corporate world. That's why I hate her and could absolutely never forgive her IRL.

Nellie never came across as truly malicious to me, just an odd person trying to make something for herself career-wise and having developed a coping mechanism of disguising true self under layers of bombastic weirdness, a true self that comes out when people are kind to her. In that light, I think her humanization fits

I fully get that the world isn't black and white; that there is tons of gray in the world and people around us. I just don't think the writers did a good job with the Nellie character. They tried to show a vulnerable side to her by giving us a glimpse of her backstory. But it didn't work for me. Michael Scott was a terrible boss, but it all came from his good-hearted effort to be the "world's best boss." I don't see that from Nellie.

I liked your whole Deeper Meaning section of this episode (definitely made me think higher of it) but the attempts to humanize Nelly just didn't cut it for me, especially with how unlikeable she was in the last episode

In the previous episodes, we had to dislike Nellie. She was a terrible person like Tod Packer. Now we *have* to like Nellie. Next episodes we dont have to like her. And in S9, we have to like Nellie again.

This episode just sucks. I found Michael annoying annoying more than funny annoying quite awhile but man, was I missing him all this time. It's a slow, long slog of an episode with cartoon characters we're pretending are the Dunder Mifflin gang, worn out gags and character development that doesn't go anywhere or make me care. The Pam joke stopped being cute after the first time, they screwed with the magician for no reason (take that,dude trying to do his job!) and Jessica got shafted (the crime of not being the protagonist's actual love interest), Nelly is still the worse (say what you will about Michael, at least when he had had break ups, he still tried to power through his job and was only accidentally a dick) and Robert is a human McGuffin of a person. That meme and the Hank bit were the best part by far.

no offense but can u stop with this "deeper meaning" stuff it's so forced, it's just a comedy and not every episode is that serious or 'deep'. like nellie is not even a villain, so stop forcing it
