This is a glimpse into the life of an anesthesiologist assistant. I go into a little more detail about room setups, what its like working on the weekends and emergencies cases. I explain a lot more about the anesthetic consideration for the surgeries I did in regards to drugs, rapid sequence inductions, wake-ups. && answer a few commonly asked questions! There was also a big emergency case that happened over night!
For those of you who don't know me, I am a certified anesthesiologist assistant and I have been working for about 6 years. My goal is to spread the word about this profession to aspiring students in the medical field - comment down below and follow me on instagram if you have any questions! To my current followers, thanks so much for your support!

RT of 12 years here. I have to say it's daunting looking to become a CAA after graduating so long ago. 1 year post bacc + 2.5 years schooling and doing well enough on the mcat to be a competitive candidate. Seems really outside of intelligence range honestly...but I already do a lot of what you do: Place A-lines, intubate/extubate, manage ventilation/oxygenation, respond to codes for all ages...seems a logical next step in my career but $$$$$$, college tuition is nooooo joke! Amazing videos though. I really enjoyed this one.

How often do you feel you have to manage risky and fear-inducing situations? Do CAAs confront challenging situations that could be career ending with some regularity, or better stated, are situations like these regularly a concern? Do you have much of an option to work where this is not the case, or is it inevitable? Thanks!
@Anesthesiasal
@Anesthesiasal Жыл бұрын
Not too often. Most of the time, you know your patients medical history, the risk of the surgery and can prepare for situations prior to starting a case. The frequency of challenging situations depend on what hospital and patient demographic. Trauma centers and sicker patients more often require higher acuity. If you work at an outpatient center taking care of healthy patients, the risk for adverse events can still happen but it is minimal.

We work in an anesthesia care team model. You have the help of the entire anesthesia department if you need!
