This is a video comprised of a few questions the Pre-Anesthesia Professionals society at Oakland University sent to me, hopefully this is somewhat helpful:
1. What interested you in your field?
Anesthesia deals with patients in a short term aspect. It is hands on and you get instant gratification from the things you do for your patients.
2. What is your typical day-to-day schedule? Everyone’s schedules are different (some work 4x10hr shifts, 2x12+ 2x8, 2x12+16, 16+24) it depends on how your employer does scheduling:
5:30am wake up.
6:30am arrival. Set up room, get IV
7:30am case start
xx:xx finish case
xx:xx start another case
xx:xx repeat until it’s time to go home
3. What can a CAA expect as far as the lifestyle and work you do?
You can work your bare minimum of 40 hrs or pick up as much as you want - depending on what hospital you work at.
4. What was your pre-professional (undergraduate, post-graduate) academic path?
Bachelors in Exercise and Sport Science
5. How are CAA’s different from other medical specialties, such as CRNA’s and Anesthesiologists?
Please visit this link for a detailed explanation about the different pathways of CRNA & CAA:
aaaa.memberclicks.net/assets/...
6. What qualities do CAA’s have that makes them enjoy/proficient in their field?
It’s good if you’re able to remain calm in emergency situations and can handle stress well! Being able to adapt in the OR is key also.
7. What do you enjoy most and least about your job?
I love doing line placements!
Sometimes being overworked can be mentally draining.
8. What do/did you find most challenging about your field, if anything?
Perfecting emergence and smooth extubations can take some time.
9. What advice would you give to students interested in your field?
Get in the OR ! See what we do for yourselves :)
These answers are broad/general so please dm me on Instagram @anesthesiasal if you want to know more at length.
Also please refer to this website for more details about certified anesthesiologist assistants:

My daughter was wanting to become an Anesthesiologist and is currently at student at UF . You are correct very little info on how to get into the profession: she has call Nova and has looked up what are the courses required. She is seeking a degree in Biology. That seems to have all the prerequisite courses . She is now in search of a mentor . I appreciate your videos as you were the first one that when she watched it decided to change her plan . She thinks that being the person that does the hands on instead of supervising is what she would enjoy. If there are any other words of advise or someone she could talk to about the job we would appreciate it

@@mjnona If I'm not mistaken, you don't need any degree to become an anesthesia technician. They will accept anyone (similar to a medical assistant) and they will train you. It's not so much a career path but more a stepping stone for someone interested in a future in anesthesia or medical field in general. Not to say you can't have a career as a medical assistant but that's what I'm comparing it to!
@Anonymous-so1ho
@Anonymous-so1ho Жыл бұрын
@@mjnona Anesthesia techs are associates-degree trained. Similar positions include scrub techs (or "surgical technologists"), sonography techs, respiratory therapists. Paramedics and LPNs could also be a good comparison, as could medical assistants. But Anesthesia techs perform Anesthesia related tasks, under the explicit direction of an anaesthesia provider. Anaesthesia assistants are midlevel anesthesia providers- they are indirectly supervised by an anesthesiologist (i.e. a physician). They can manage cases and perform their duties on their own, but can't be totally independent. An analogy from the general medical world would be the anesthesia techs are like medical assistants, and CAAs like PAs, CRNAs like NPs, and anesthesiologists like medical attendings. The lowest level role completes tasks. No critical thinking or autonomy involved. The PA/CAA has a good deal of autonomy, but still requires supervision. The NP/CRNA role is similar, with the caveat that some states/systems allow for fully independent practice.

The scope of practice is quite a bit different between the two fields. CRNA has more direct healthcare education and experience thus has more independence. CAA is still an anesthesia provider but more of an assistant role. If you want to become an anesthesia provider quickly and make good money then go CAA. If you are more interested in not having to have direct supervision but okay with spending 8-9 years becoming an anesthesia provider then go crna.
