The ANET ET4 and ANET ET5 get mixed reviews. I believe some of the problems people have with these printers are caused by improper installation and setup. This is not the user's fault as properly setting up the print bed is a bit tricky. In the review of the ANET ET5, I go through the steps necessary to properly use these printers and how they have the potential to become outstanding 3d printers at a very attractive price.

My ET5X has been parked for a few weeks as I wasn't able to get a good print out of it. I went through the setup again using this video as a guide and now it's printing just fine. Many thanks @MakeWithTech :)

Thanks so much for this video. I first watched it a few weeks ago when I was researching the ET5X. Your video certainly pointed out that it is a good printer that just requires a proper setup to get good results out of the box. It also showed things to look out for while doing the setup. I get frustrated very easily so took my time assembling the printer before watching your video again for the setup. It took a few rewinds and many pauses but your method worked and I was able to print a calibration cube that was very close to specs. I was also able to print a gift for a very happy Mom. Thanks again! 😀

Thanks doc for the setup and review. I have an ET5-X coming tomorrow and will be playing this video again during setup. Especially the bed leveling and Z-Axis setup. If I'm feeling adventurous, I'll install Marlin2 later. But the comprehensive setup was just perfect. Your enthusiasm for what you're teaching is on par with Bob Ross while's painting. Except, we're going to be printing happy trees.

Great video as always Dr Vax , I have a ET4 and modified it quite a bit , Marlin 2.0.7.2 , Dual Z and Direct Drive ! , by the way it's possible to use the Capricorn tube in the ET4 , I have done it, the design of the hotend throat is different than the Ender 3 , there is a ridge at the end of the tube to stop the bowen tube and the nozzle seats on the other side. Keep up the great videos. !

Anet reached out to me to bring support for the ET4 (A4988s)/ET4P (TMC2208s) motherboards and TFT28/TFT35 TFTs used in the ET4 and ET5 series of printers into the main Marlin repo, so here’s the pending PR: github.com/MarlinFirmware/Marlin/pull/20280 This will compile for the OpenBLT bootloader (0x10000 offset) by default. I’m waiting to hear back from Anet about their stock bootloader details, but we’re hoping to encrypt compiled firmware to work without needing to use an ST-Link, so hopefully that will be an option soon.

I’m new at 3d printing, and i’m using anet et5 too. When i want to print something, i need to do the bed levelling again after the printer shut down. Because when i didn’t do it, i press the home button and the nozzle hitting the bed. Its likely the bed levelling that i do in the previous day is gone. If i want to save my bed levelling for my next printing so i didn’t have to do that all the time before start printing, what should i do? 🙏🏻

I bought an Anet ET4 Pro about 2 years ago but have found it to be more frustrating than satisfying. After a lot of trial and error and KZfaq videos, I finally got it to work with some consistancy until late last year when I moved. It has been almost 6 months since I have used it, but recently took on the task once again. Unfortunately, I found the nozzle was clogged and spent a lot of time getting that cleared. In the process, I needed to replace the feeder tube between the injector and the hot end, then discovered that the fitting on the hot end was no longer gripping the tube. I find I need to replace that fitting, but I am having trouble finding these fittings, even on the Anet site. I can buy a completely new hot end kit but not these fittings, and even these kits ship from China, taking weeks/months to deliver here. I went through this when I first bought my printer, and the sensor was bad. Where does one find parts or a parts list for the ET4 printer? I can find all sorts of major parts, but not something as simple as a push fitting. Am I missing something, some secret source, or did Anet just decide to not be bothered with these crucial but small parts?

lol - just finished watch Thomas Sanladerer's review of an anet printer, and it was absolutely scalding. My head is spinning. ;) Quick question though: does the bed heater cover the full 300x300 bed space? I've seen other manufacturers just use the standard 235x235 bed heater under a bigger build plate. Just curious how this one is built. Thanks for the interesting analysis, looking forward to the marlin segs.

I would Like to change out the whole hot end/ extruder assembly/tubing/and boards it all connect to. As you have mention Anet has non standard sizes for tubes, yeap. Could you recommend a kit or could you select parts that would be compatible to upgrade extruder, hot end, tubes, ect.. @MakeWithTech
@MakeWithTech 3 жыл бұрын
Only way to fix this is to upgrade the ET5 to Marlin. I have a video about this on the channel. However, I am not a fan of octolapse. Octoplapse moves the nozzle away from the print at the end of each layer so it can take a picture. This allows the filament to cool before the next layer which impacts layer adhesion.

Work in progress. Really. You think it’s ok they sell something that’s clearly not fully working? You think it’s ok that you have to open the printer buy an item and upgrade the firmware. You mention how easy this one is to assemble as if this is a big plus. How different is this to any other printer. Anets are rock solid? Really that’s not their reputation. You had to move the files on the card to get them to print? Have you checked thermal runaway is working? It’s all very well for a printer manufacturer to claim this but have you checked this? Grub screws loose, fair enough possibly you should have checked that first. Quite good extruder? It’s plastic. You should not have to upgrade Marlin, this is a dealbreaker and I do not agree with your opinions. Looks solid but they are sending out unfinished printers and for most people especially someone new this is not good enough.
@MakeWithTech
@MakeWithTech 3 жыл бұрын
@Paul Milne, I understand your point of view, but of the ten different 3d printer models I have reviewed over the past 12 months, all of them require a bit or a lot of work to make them usable every day. I stand by my comment that the hardware in the Anet ET5 is reliable at its price, and the frame is rock solid. I also agree the firmware is terrible, but even the firmware on the new Ender 3 V2 is incomplete, and I have replaced it. I have updated firmware or made enhancements on almost every 3D printer I own. In most cases, with native Marlin. My only exception to this is my Prusa i3 Mk3, where I use all components from Prusa. I spent $750 on the Prusa, and it took me five miserable hours to assemble it. In the future, I would only purchase a fully assembled Prusa, and then it is a $1,000 printer. The ET5 is $320. Quite a difference. My point is budget 3d printers will require work, so the ANET printers seem to be similar to printers from Weedo (Monoprice), Malyan (Monoprice), Creality, and others that I own. In this regard, if your check the initial reviews for the Prusa i3 Mk3, you will find they shipped before they were ready. I do wish that Anet would drop their proprietary firmware and ship their ET4/ET5 with Open Source Marlin.
@paulmilne3038
@paulmilne3038 3 жыл бұрын
My understanding is even budget printers like the Ender 3 now come with a bootloader. Correct me if I’m wrong. So to update firmware on a printer with a bootloader is manageable for many people. But to sell a printer that does not recognise some gcode commands and means you have to upgrade the firmware and this means you have to buy another bit of kit and open up the case is beyond many people. It’s not acceptable in 2020 that they sell this like this. I stand by my comments and there are far superior printers to buy at a similar price so I cannot see how you can recommend it but there you are.
@MakeWithTech
@MakeWithTech 3 жыл бұрын
The ET4/5 has a boot loader that will load their proprietary firm just not marlin. This approach is common. The same for example with many of the monoprice printers. You are also correct the Ender 3 v2 has an excellent boot loader that will load generic marlin.

I've been running my ET5 almost non-stop since January. Apart from an all-metal hotend replacement and a high temperature Bowden tube, it's stock. Even running the legacy Firmware. Believe it or not, I love it. It's a tight printer. Metal extruder. Double Z servos. 300mm bed. 400mm high. I use a 0.6mm titanium nozzle for the most part. Haven't had any problems.
