Spider-Man 2: Enter Electro is a 2001 action-adventure video game based on the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man. It was developed by Vicarious Visions and published by Activision for the PlayStation. It is the sequel to Spider-Man (2000), and directly follows the events of that game, as Spider-Man tries to stop Electro from becoming all-powerful using a mechanism called the Bio-Nexus Device. Like its predecessor, the game features several classic Spider-Man villains as bosses, including the Shocker, Hammerhead, the Lizard, Sandman, and Electro, as well as his charged-up Hyper-Electro persona, created exclusively for the game.
Enter Electro received moderate favorable reviews, with critics generally considering it to be a downgrade from its predecessor. The game gained some fame for having its final level modified after the September 11 attacks; originally set to take place on top of the World Trade Center, the setting was later changed to a generic skyscraper. It was followed by Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2 for the home video game consoles and PlayStation Portable, based on the first two films released in 2002 and 2004, while the standalone sequel for the Game Boy Advance, Spider-Man: Mysterio's Menace, was released in September 2001.

If the cutscene exists at all and wasn't deleted out of existence during development, I think it would be on one of the lead programmers' hard-drives. Who knows, maybe they have an intact working copy? Stranger things have happened like a finished build of the lost media Superman ps1 game surfacing online. A full 98% complete build of the game was uploaded by the former dev out of the blue!

If I had to guess: They were planning on simply hiding the WTC aspect of the buildings and there was a disconnect between the people altering the game's story to reflect that and some of the marketing team forgetting it was changed. Ergo, someone at marketing forgot that Thor bit got cut entirely. Which...that ITSELF raises some questions why they didn't even think about that.

The other suspicious thing is that on the newspapers, all the characters photos are 3d captured except for thor. I think they simply didn't like his 3d design.

Now all we need to find is the cut Beetle boss. Vicarious Visions had to cut his fight out due to deadlines and so beetle was only seen in cutscenes. Apparently we were going to fight him on a construction building rooftop, something Ultimate Spiderman eventually did. All the evidence we have of the fight right now are audio files of Beetle's boss fight lines. But I'm still convinced remnants of the level remain somewhere

What I wouldn't give for a return to this specific Spidey-verse. With the same voice cast, music style, easter eggs and cool features and galleries. Some people laugh at the game's graphics and controls, but it was jam packed with stuff that gave you your money's worth. Especially with today's practices of day-1 DLC/patches, skins locked behind paywalls, microtransactions, always online etc. Might just be the thumbnail, but Thor's face looks like a skull and I can't help but imagine Ghost Rider or something cosplaying as the God of Thunder.

The PS1 duology were effectively a true realization of the 90's animated series. We had those side scrollers, yes, but these actually had the story and voice acting to go with the aesthetics.

It’s so interesting how abrupt the ending is without this scene. Even as a kid I could tell something was off lol. You think there’d be some grand confrontation at the end of the game between Spidey and Electro but the game just ends. Plus the Thor joke comes out of nowhere and doesn’t make a lot of sense. My guess is that there was something related to the World Trade Center so integral to this scene that it was cheaper to just cut it than re-record/reanimate it.

yeah, the game just ends abruptly, probably and that short cutscene you could see in the background they were in the World Trade Center or maybe some joke or line referencing the twin towers

Finally! After 22 years, I know why Thor got credit for defeating Electro. I knew about the world trade center change, but had never heard Thor was meant to be in the finale. This makes so much sense now, especially if Thor was the one to drop Electro off at the prison, and all that lightning at the top of the tower would surely attract the God of Thunder's attention. I always thought it was Jameson refusing to give Spidey credit and just picked Thor at random.

I watched this cutscene myself way back then, I was browsing through the website mooning over Enter Electro (which I couldn't play since I didn't have a PSone) and thought this was so cool. When I finally played it years later, I kept waiting for Thor to show up. Unfortunately, I can't recall the dialogue or much of it in detail...

Pretty funny. Probably they cut this scene because felt it unnecessary, or idk. We have a 2 prototypes from August 2001, and pre-911 version. Noone has this scene even in game files (I've checked it), so probably it was deleted from game even earlier, like July, or June. Another question- why they uploaded literally end of game to web? Well, because it already was deleted, and maybe they wanted to save it at least this way..

holy shit!! I am so psyched that finally we have actual evidence for this! I even made a thread on the lost media subreddit after seeing that youtube comment from the guy who claimed to watch it on activision's website. if anyone can get the ball rolling, it's you anganoff. I used to frequent that site all the time! I remember going to GameStop on release day to get enter electro only to be told it was delayed. When I saw the thumbnail I instantly recognized that image of Thor from the site but sadly I never watched it thinking it would spoil the game 😂

It would be interesting having Thor in a Spider-Man game during that time because what then a superhero game is one with other crossover characters in it especially during that era when crossover were rare in cartoons and games.

Yeah, I downloaded it from Activision site many years ago and I don't have the video clip anymore (lost it in a hard drive crash around 2016), but it goes just as described. Thor face looked pretty flat, as it was a low poly model just like every other character. Perhaps they also used the same model in the character viewer? Perhaps there's an unused Thor model buried in the game files? Around the same time Activision site also hosted the Mutant Academy 2 opening in a very low quality.

Definitely always thought it was strange how this game didn't particularly keep the subtle cameos of the greater world of marvel as much as the first. Probably one of the many things lost in translation from going to never soft than VV. I remember beast in the tutorial and a mention of Thor on the newspaper. But that's it if I remember right as far as the story. I'm aware other x-men show up in the actual training modes. Rambles aside, thank you for keeping this duology alive! Never thought a franchise of only 2 games not even 1 apart in release could have lost media

The newspapers were littered with references to the larger world. I know Blade is mentioned in one and Spidey namedrops Elektra. And the final boss battle has Spidey complain that no helicarrier, no fansticar and no Blackbird has come to help him so there were lots of references in it, even if the characters didn't make physical appearances.

Reminds me of the King's Field Mobile screenshots that I found when trying to look for gameplay. Probably never going to see those games as they're lost to the phones they inhabited. I know there are file explorers for ps1 and ps2 games online, maybe this movie is still on the disc but it's just not in the game. I found many unused music tracks while exploring a few game directories that way

If they ever make a 911 related movie staring Chris Hemsworth it will literally cause me to fall on the floor laughing because of this cut content, it's pretty amazing that see this myth be confirmed after all time, I always wrote this off as a rumor or an idea they never even implemented but it's all right there, hopefully one day someone will end up finding an unused model of ironman for this game since he was cut too
