The alternation between ballad and blues here is perfect for this tune. Very nice.

I'm an old jazz head, but still, to me "Angel eyes" is an Abba song :D

I was just going to comment that it was Ella's favorite song, but you'd already mentioned it! I can totally understand why.

@@rondrotoskeyboardimprov9453 Thank you, I needed that good laugh today! I found a gem on the internet that I know you would enjoy: Bob Winter, solo piano, playing "So In Love," by Cole Porter. I'm trying to get lost in music these days not only because it's the one enduring joy in this world of sadness and loss, but it's as close to the heavenly realm as anything I've known since my experience there in eleven years ago. Yes, I've been there! Beautiful music keeps me connected to that place and is the mental, emotional and spiritual space that I believe the Lord wants me to be in right now (the realm of joy) until I've accomplished something that He has asked me to do. I'm very happy to have found a new friend that I seem have so much in common with musically! God bless.

Ron, thanks for all the great insight and bar number one on the third beat they have a d half diminished sound like you played a flat seven all the way through. The G flat, Melody note sort of clashes with that D minor seven flat five chord doesn’t it? I’ve seen a couple of different versions and other books D7 to G7 sometimes your thoughts.?

Great question! Yes, the chords to Angel Eyes are pretty fluid. I'd just go with the chords that the musicians you jam with like to use. Or, you can use all of these harmonies at different times and view them as substitutions. Sometimes its fun to track down the original sheet music and see exactly what the composer wrote. I just bought the original sheet music to All The Things You Are on ebay for $6 and gained some insight into the tune, at least from a historical perspective.

The lead sheet is in the Real Book, Volume 1. You can find the basic sheet music on sites like musicnotes.com. After that, it's about improvising our own versions of the song.
