I remember watching this on tv the two best singers from NJ ...Sorry Bon Jovi....You can't walk in Bruce's shoes...Bruce has the lord in his heart and soul......He's not looking for praise and accolades.God gave him a gift and he uses it as best he knows.... and he is not looking to be praised ... he is just a good salt of the earth person ..he may not be perfect and he and Patti did it ..they raised good kids ..they sheltered them from the public and gave them freedom to do as they should with there support ..like most families I am sure they weren't through all the same stuff others do ...it just wasnt pubiczed...........May God Bless him and his entire family ...Thank you Bruce for all the memories..

One catches a glimpse of Angela Lansbury, who co-starred with Sinatra in arguably her best film performance in The Manchurian Candidate, Angie Dickinson, who played his wife in the original Ocean's Eleven, Jill St. John, who co-starred in Tony rome and Come Blow Your Horn and Louis Jordan, his co-star in Can Can.

I love Bruce. This is tone deaf to what makes this song so haunting-the key changes and the distinctive harmonic minor melody notes. Ella kills it. Frank’s version is stellar.
@jesseimpersonal2 жыл бұрын
@@JAYDUBYAH29 Agreed. Love Bruce and to sing this to Sinatra is unbelievably brave. Good job for what it is, but Ella's take, no, that's another league, another planet, another universe on this tune. As good as it gets.

I have never been a great Springsteen fan, but this is magnificent: The Second Jersey Boy, in the presence of the First, singing one of Sinatra's signature tunes to him, with only his own minimalist accompaniment, and nothing else, and making it his own. Springsteen takes the ultimate "saloon song" and turns it into the ultimate "roadhouse song," and, because of the human universality in the song itself, transcending the false divisions of "musical style," it works... Beautifully.

How anyone could ever think, and then have the gall to WRITE that this "sucks" is beyond any human comprehension or any knowledge or understanding of what constitutes greatness and a superb artistic/musical performance, well, it's beyond me. He is singing out of tune. He is playing shit chords. (Not only are they the wrong chords, they are lazily chosen and sound like every 90s rock song). Listen to Ella Fitzgerald or Frank Sinatra. This is an abomination. You can see Frank cringe in this video and his wife looking at him checking to make sure his head isn't going to explode. This video will give me nightmares for years to come.

Nancy Sinatra should have been nominated for an Academy Award for best dramatic actress for the moment when she escorts her Father to his table with Barbara, his wife. As we later learned, the Sinatra children would have preferred to set Barbara on fire than to acknowledge her presence. They felt that Frank should either re-marry Nancy Senior or be married to Mother Teresa.

We'll this was pretty amazing by Bruce some crazy comments here, don't you understand that when an artist does a cover they put there own take on the song, Bruce has many different versions of his own songs, if Frank Sinatra recorded a Bruce song maybe someone would say, hey I like Frank but when he did that Bruce song there were no guitars, or guitar solo's and instead of just a minor chord he had7th's and 9th's, leading chords, he just did too much with it. Frank and Bruce are the best ever.

so many pricks on this comment section.I would like to see Sinatra sing hungry heart i bet he would not be so great.Bruce says that " only the lonely " is one of the greatest albums ever" he need not have said "one of".It is by a mile the best Sinatra album and by half a mile the best album I have ever heard.Two legends and Bruce showed that he is a true mensch by paying tribute with such detail to the master , he is in company with john lee hooker , chuck berry and BB King in recognising the greatest musical artist of the 20 th century.

Mr. Sinatra's rendition of 'Angel Eyes' on the 'Only The Lonely' album was about as close to perfection as a song can be. I understand that Springsteen fans have a difficult time finding fault in him and It would have been wonderful if he'd sung it the way it was written, but his rendition of this song was unfortunately bad.

Dylan stole the show'
@trombonesolosbyfreddy75258 жыл бұрын
It's a nice rendition, only that he just doesn't sing the melody. It certainly is not improvised in terms of jazz singing. He has to cvhange the notes and melody because he just doesn't seem to be able to hit the notes. He just doesn't have the range. So it's definitely not a different Interpretation, but a completely different song! Light years away from Sinatra's artistry. But: Springsteen is a nice and credible artist in his own genre. Since Sinatra was a little touched, it's okay.
@trickydick61528 жыл бұрын
+Trombone Solos by Freddy Yeah, it's not Angel Eyes. I can't even say it's the worst version of the song because it just isn't it. Terrible.
@BrittonBuchanan8 жыл бұрын
I urge you to listen to Bruce's music. Come back and then say Bruce doesn't have the range. Sinatra's vocal range is quite limited compared to Bruce. Bruce can sing quite high. Research before you post.
@trickydick61528 жыл бұрын
Britton Buchanan Cameron Himes Can't say I didn't try. Eons ago I put his first lp on the turntable and had to stop it after a couple of minutes. But, in another life, maybe I will make "research" on the subject. In the meantime I'll keep on listening to music.
@godriczimmerman8 жыл бұрын
Springsteen wrote his own songs (some quite good ones too). That alone makes him the more talented of the the two, in my opinion. Sinatra was just a singer, albeit a great one. He relied on the talents of others, just as much as on his own talent, for his success.
@trickydick61528 жыл бұрын
godriczimmerman A good reflection. The problem is that you have to consider Sprinsteen's as songs.
@amv4m111 жыл бұрын
Nice try Bruce, I love you but the tune needs the right changes. It's part of the composition. You made it a simple folk tune, but that is not the way Matt Denis wrote it. There are a bunch of minor ii Vs in it.

Bruce did it his way instead of copy catting Frank. I like both renditions..Omar Usnani, Bruce didn't become "The Boss" because he couldn't sing. You may not like his style and that's fine but it doesn't mean he can't sing.. Be nice...
@JimDiBattista8 жыл бұрын
+Harriette Stamps Frank Sinatra Jr may he rest in peace and all but he could only WISH that he could have interpreted his father's music with as much artistry and originality as Bruce Springsteen did here. We've all heard Junior's attempts as far as Frank Senior's versions go, and if you can't top them, why bother even DOING them? As an artist I know that there are some songs and some performers that it's better to not even attempt trying to do. For example Stairway To Heaven another: almost anything that Frank Sinatra sang from 1950-1965-forget about it-don't even try. Bruce's version here is MASTERFUL-his singing; dead on, perfectly in pitch.
@Harriette1008 жыл бұрын
+Jim DiBattista I agree with you completely. I loved the emotion that Bruce put into this song.
@usmanioa8 жыл бұрын
+Harriette Stamps Hey you are right, bruce springsteen is definitely 'the boss'. actually i listened to this performance again with an open mind and i think it was pretty good and also, haunting in the end. i just prefer the bel canto style that I am used to hearing for angel eyes but springsteen definitely deserved more respect from Sinatra JR. (RIP). And by the way, my last name is spelled UsMani but it's all good.
@Rusanovka10 жыл бұрын
This performance is really sucks! I mean - in all aspects, beside a little speeches before and after singing. He might of also scream it on one note, as a soldier, and it could be better (at least - fun!). It sounded as if he was trying to compose it on stage, right after stroke wiped out all his musical skills.
@Hissyspit3 жыл бұрын
Oh, nonsense. He beautifully pared it down to its emotional core. Ridiculous comment.
@Khamomil9 жыл бұрын
This song is a gem and Bruce didn't even bother to learn the chord progression, just did it with the 4 chords he knows. Shame on you!, it's a very poor rendition and Sinatra must be cringing. What disrespect for te classics!

Not that Ella needs anyone to compare her perfect rendition of Angel Eyes to anyone but Bruce certainly re-inforces it here with this abomination of an interpretation. The comparison is cringeworthy.
@bryanismyname75834 ай бұрын
Springsteen wasn't trying to top Sinatra here. He does a nice, simple rendition of the song, just him and his guitar. Nothing fancy. I like that. It was heartfelt and showed he has a really nice voice.

Bruce just doesn’t get this song. His interpretation of the song and chord structure really aren’t all that great.
