She did not "do alright". She had a stroke in 2006 in her early 50's. The signs of poor health were there before that. Why weren't they addressed before they got out of hand?
@JungleYT

@@elainebmack *Still amazing she made it to 70... Was thinking about her a lot lately. You bring up some good points about the warning signs. She appeared to have put on lots of bad weight, plus I read in the 80s about her hectic schedule, so that also no doubt contributed. Luther Vandross also pushed it a bit too hard, including yo-yo dieting*
@Lelagallo
@Lelagallo 2 күн бұрын
@@elainebmack she did alright in the sense that despite many obstacles including health, she made to 70. Obviously if she could have had the care she that she needed, prior to 2006, she would have did it but sadly it wasn’t an option. Regardless of fame, the industry did not do right by her and countless others. It was also during a time when there was little to no resource(s) available for artists, female and of color. Talents were exploited, then discarded. Only within the last 10 years has that changed. I hope that this provides some measure of clarity in what I previously expressed.

I didn't know she had died. My heart is broken. She was a beautiful woman and songstress, a consummate performer. I count seeing her live one of the best performances I had ever seen. She engaged the audience and brought us into her emotional, witty, jazzy world. Those later strokes robbed her of her voice but not her spirit. RIP, Queen 💔

@@teddydavis2339 I absolutely adored Phyllis Hyman. And it took me a long time to accept her death. I just couldn't imagine someone so utterly beautiful with such a beautiful voice could take their life like that. If they ONLY knew how much they are loved and missed. Lastly, my father was an extremely talented musician that traveled the world with some of the biggest bands. But often times their just wired differently in ways you can't understand.

Before there were Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston, there was Angela Bofill. Her songs were so difficult to sing because she sung in a high tone. In one presser held in a hotel here in Manila to promote her concert, she held a crystal goblet up high for people to see and then sang a very high pitched note and broke the goblet. Because of that, she became legendary. Personally, I love her song "You Should Know by Now" the most. I heard the rumour that she suffered a stroke but I didn't know it was true. Rest in Peace Angela Bofill. You were one of my childhood heroes. 🎉

I met her after seeing her at the Blue Note, in NYC. She connected with me on stage, and teased me about wanting her drummer! Later in her set she told the men in the audience, after asking me if I would get a man back! Her voice was awesome, and she was a warm gentle person! Her daughter and my Dad were both born on November 16th. My favorite song is my mantra . . . "Share Your Love." When she stopped the tour circuit, I was concerned, and then found out she'd had a stroke! I last saw her in a recliner chair at Grace Cathdral where a fundraiser was held for her to raise money for her medical expenses! It seemed weird to hear Jeannie Tracy and others sing her songs! May she rest in peace!💔

This is a great loss to the music industry and those of us who followed her from the very beginning. Her melding of R&B, Soul, Latin and African rhythms made her a most unique artist that will live on forever in or heart, minds and in our collections. May she finally rest in peace! 🕯🇵🇷🇨🇺🎵💐

There was no where on Hampton Institute's campus (now Hampton University) where you didn't hear Angela Bofill in 1978 to 1980, the year I graduated. Everyone had her albums. Her music stayed in rotation on the radio stations in the Hampton Roads area back then. Even now, her music is still a staple on the "quiet storm" formats on urban radio. I never considered her a rhythm and blues singer. Like Phyllis Hyman, Jean Carne and Patti Austin, I considered Angela Bofill to be a song stylist with a jazz favor. She had a robust, unique voice. She was a writer and musician. Angie and the aforementioned ladies were singers who could sing any style of music. I will miss the beautiful Ms. Bofill. Her music certainly was one of the soundtracks of my life. I am very fortunate to have her music to listen to as long as I live.😢

I remember her. I always thought she was pretty. I remembered she used to sometimes sing in Spanish.
