I hate that she is a "mental health advocate" yet she perpetuates so many stereotypes. "ADHD makes me rude" "Women are vindictive and bitchy". Its honestly disgusting and I don't have time for it. We have come too far for this to be okay 😔❤

exactly! says shes advocating but then blames her entire shitty personality on her mental health issues. as if that changes the way you view and treat other people. just like trisha said, when influencers apologise for being a bad person and blame it on the fact that they were in a 'dark place'

ADHD and any other type of mental health problems are not a death sentence but they are not an escape goat for all terrible things a person does. I dont have ADHD so I cant comment on that experience and I hope that you would enlighten me, but I do suffer with crippling depression and anxiety. If I had to use my illnesses as a crutch I wouldn't be where I am. I am so fed up with the stigmatized of mental illnesses and people like Gabi Hanna making it easier for people to not believe that mental illness is a real thing and deserving of empathy and support.

She’s only an advocate for herself. What she says about narcissism and how she gets so offended by that term- just perpetuating that as an insult is despicable. I don’t personally know anybody with narcissistic personality disorder but they are people too. Who have probably been through enough shit due to all the stigma around their diagnosis. Stop villainizing them? And then bragging about your degree in psychology

that part made me screaaaaammmmm, how could she not see the irony?!. Like.. yes Angelica is technically an adult ... an adult who only became of legal age to drink alcohol in America 1 month ago!! PLUS when someone says the phrase "grown ass woman" they are trying to say that they are a full adult with there career figured out with their own house, car, maybe kid, etc. and evokes the image of someone AT LEAST 25 (imo, even tho it's still a little ridiciulous) Honestly even though Gabbie is an idiot, I can't help but feel like she intentionally and maliciously used that specific wording, because anyone who doesn't know Angelica will just take that as blind proof, because technically she is right but the implications of the actual term mean more than just being an adult.

Gabbie went after Rachel Oates because Rachael had actual, thoughtful, constructive feedback, but Gabbie can’t handle not being the smartest person in the room. You can’t tell her new information because she already has all the answers. James Marriot didn’t bother her because it brought her attention in a comedic way, Rachel’s review cut to Gabbie’s ego and that’s what she was really struggling with.

@@nataskuryl I 100% agree with this. I also have racing thoughts but fortunately, that hasn't happened to me. After people come out it does take extra time and energy to internalize their new pronouns / not accidentally dead name them especially if you knew them well before they came out. I've done that to a few people and I've felt so bad about it but people can typically tell when you're genuinely sorry / if it was a slip. especially “gaslighting” i feel like - it gets thrown around as synonymous with just “lying” rather than a very specific psychological manipulation. someone having a different version of events is not necessarily gaslighting you, people lying or being wrong aren’t necessarily gaslighting. gaslighting is specifically about framing your own experiences as not just invalid, but framing you yourself as broken or insane so your perception of reality is dependent on them. it’s a part of a pattern and also is often expressed as “concern,” not just “that’s not quite how i remember it”

This is the first I’m hearing of Gabbie having a psych degree and I just want to put in my two cents. I spent six years towards getting my psych degree to become a therapist (although that career goal has changed since then) and I spent a lot of that time learning how to help other people as best as possible. A majority of my other classmates had similar goals in mind, whether it be to help other people or better take care of themselves. The only other time I’ve heard of someone educating themselves on psychology in order to hurt other people was from my ex, who was a textbook narcissist. I had encouraged him to see a therapist to help him with his trauma and he always shot that idea down and then one day he said he would see a therapist so that his therapist could tell him everything that was wrong with me and how I was the one who was abusing him. Putting these together, it seems like Gabbie didn’t get into studying psychology purely for the interest of it and more to weaponize it in her advantage like my ex had. This is of course only speculation, but I just think it’s interesting.

I think part of the reason Gabbie has focused so heavily on Rachel is that she IS a book and poetry reviewer and criticised the themes, rhyme and meter, technical proficiency, etc. She went more in depth than anyone else I watched regarding this. Most of the other people Gabbie could just tell herself they don't know art, they don't understand poetry, they don't know how to look beyond surface level for the deeper meaning. She can tell herself their opinions aren't valid. With Rachel, though, she is very clearly knowledgeable about poetry. She shows an understanding of the mechanical and technical aspects of crafting a poem as well as the artistic aspects. She is able to go in depth into a poem's themes and meanings, exploring author's intent and layers of thought and how well these were conveyed. And that is exactly what Gabbie attacked about Rachel. She called her uneducated, that she had not shown she has any understanding of art or any education in poetry. Gabbie said this meant her criticism wasn't valid, that Rachel didn't have the right or ability to critique her work because she was uneducated. Gabbie does not have to listen to or accept her critique because it is not coming from...I guess a famous, published poet? A literature professor? Gabbie is right, though. She doesn't have to listen to, accept or take on board Rachel's criticism in any way. Nor does she have to listen to or gain insight from anyone else's expressed opinions or perspectives about her poems. But that doesn't mean they don't have the right to their opinions. It doesn't mean that they shouldn't be allowed to express their thoughts or pick apart her art. She does not have the right or power to dictate those things and who can or can't do them. Gabbie wants to maintain control of her art and creation. She doesn't understand that once you put your creative work out into the world to be read or consumed you lose all power and control over it. Your part is done and your work now belongs to the reader to interpret, enjoy, find meaning in, love or hate. It is out of the artist's hands once they release it into the world and let it stand on its own, independent of the author.

agreed, and it probably also helped that Rachel Oates is a relatively small youtuber, compared to James Marriott or, heck, Drew Gooden, 'cause Drew also criticized Gabbie Hanna's poetry -- albeit not a full video, but in a video nonetheless where her book was on the thumbnail. I want to touch on the “misgendering because adhd” thing, and it’s a little complicated. So basically - yes, adhd can make you misgender someone that you are used to call by different pronouns, and it absolutely can happen more than once, but only (or mostly) in the situations where your focus isn’t on this particular person - for example, if you are just mentioning them in a casual conversation. But in this situation Gabbie’s direct focus was on Trisha, also she wasn’t talking, she was writing, so there is no way it was a mistake - she did it on purpose.

@@Jabez0 thank you, I didn’t know that. Also, “gaslighting” is an awful way of messing with person’s head and emotionally manipulating them to the point of breaking. It can lead to trauma, anxiety, lost of confidence or even a sense of reality. I hope my comment didn’t do that to anybody.

I have adhd. It 100% could make me careless enough to misgender someone. But that's why I've learned that I have to read things three times before I send them to anyone who could read them. It is possible to respect people even when your brain is resistant to change.

agreed- it makes me absent minded at times and slip ups are normal for everyone. but i think intention is what matters, ya know? and in my opinion gabbies clear intention was to be disrespectful or get some sort of reaction out of trisha

Hey, thanks for talking about losing your hair because of stress. I am currently finishing my master's degree and I also have bold spots on my head. It got me so unbelievably anxious and I was watching your videos for fun, but I got so envious of your hair. But since I know that you also had this problem, I believe more that mine will also come back :)

@@xfirefoxy yeah... but I'm quite sick of people bringing up the mental health angle tbh. Cus clearly she's just using that as a shield. Like seriously pedophiles and serial killers have mental issues too, but despite that we have no problem throwing them in jail and tossing the key

@@sandygonsalves4646 I disagree. I've known a couple of girls in my highschool years who had ED and they both had fully diplomed nutritionist mothers in complete denial. My point is that you can have a diploma in something and still be in denial about something related happening to you or to relatives. Also i want to add that mental illnesses can be tricky because some of them won't let you see that you have a problem and will convince you that other people are at fault but it's never yours...

@@sandygonsalves4646 See, of course she's using mental health as an excuse too, because she's obviously manipulative and maybe has real issues with narcissism (I'm not a psychologist). She uses mental health to manipulate prople into not criticizing her, to make herself seem as a victim, but that doesnt mean she doesn't have other mental problems that she seems to be ignoring

also i need to add: when you review a book (or movie, or show, or anything) you DO NOT have to insert "constructive criticism". Reviews are supposed to be just sharing opinions, not teaching the creators how to write better. SO the fact that Gabbie went after the ONLY person who went beyond the review and actually tried to help her (for free!) is beyond me The fact that a published author doesn't know what book reviews are supposed to be is baffling
