to clarify for people who genuinely don't know and might be confused: when the age of consent is 16, or there's a romeo and juliet law, this does not mean age is irrelevant. there is a cap on how wide the age gap can be, with it typically being 4 to 5 years. in Florida specifically, the law is that 16/17 year olds can only consent to individuals 24 or under. if you are 25 and they are 17, you absolutely can end up with a misdemeanor and on the sex offender list. while i think these arguments are disgusting, they're also invalid. what cody ko did absolutely was legally statutory r**e.

@chaos_bunbun

@@skippyisfruity it is, but it's the romeo and juliet law that would apply here. romeo and juliet laws allow for people the law sees as having an age appropriate sexual relationship from being prosecuted as most people agree that teens hooking up isn't typically an issue (this also protects younger teens, as a 19 y/o with a 14 y/o is entirely different). they are still controversial as 5 years *is* a big age gap when you're that young. hope that makes sense!

Preach. Troubled young girls are so vulnerable to being swept up by men who know how to make them feel worthy in the moment, when an older guy likes you- you feel so mature and cool. I know I did when I was 17... You're chasing a sense of belonging, you're running from your past, you're looking for a way out. I felt like I didn't matter when I was younger and had a lot of unresolved trauma and pain, so I took risks with reckless abandon... And older guys like Cody know that and take advantage of it 100%.

@0l1v3r_13_ this, I've never been a fan of tana and just recently crossed some clips of canceled but for what I've seen tana seems to be putting in the work to be better and maybe finally she is coming to understand everything that has happened to her and I relate so much to her because I also was a misguided teen that did a lot of things that maybe I don't relate to trauma because I've experienced worse and I look back now that I'm 27 and, I'm like wow, that was messed up. So I wouldn't be surprised if she starts to speak up against more people who took advantage of her because I also just realized HOW YOUNG she was when she became youtube famous.

Just because you find someone funny or whatever doesn’t mean they can’t do bad things. Does it suck that Cody is one of those men? Yes. Is it okay to feel icky about you liking his content? Yes. What isn’t okay is defending this person because you want to keep watching him and you don’t like how this is making you feel. We believe the victim. Always.

The fact this has been under the radar for years now is crazy and the law says always believe the victim and should always be treated seriously “and be investigated till further and legal processes if brought by to law which” is why I think the “if it were true” statement rubbed people the wrong way by Brittany and plus the dont see her as the “perfect victim” and the fact “drama channels” made note of these allegations before d’ Angelo’s call out to his fellow “male” (cuz female to) commentary channels

What law says "believe all victims till proven wrong"? It's "innocent till proven guilty", meaning that law enforcement needs to air in the side of caution until the suspect is PROVEN guilty, in order to avoid punishing innocent people unfairly. I don't think there is A LAW saying we should believe all victims till proven wrong. We should believe all victims in the sense that ANYONE can be a victim, so they should be treated as such, instead of the instant discrediting of victims that people and law enforcement tend to do.

I realize after watching further into the video that what I'm saying isn't new but I'm still going to say it! : The fact that people and other creators are more willing to listen to a man talk about and address the crime against Tana over listening to Tana, the actual victim, as well as when female creators discuss it, shows that out and out, people are still misogynistic, even if they end up believing Tana, and finally listening to you, Gabbie and any other female creator. They still listened to and believed D'Angelo first.

Brittany Broski has never been a good person tbh, and I don't think she will ever criticize the men she's friends with unless it becomes popular to do so. Her activism is very performative, and she often slips up and shows how racist she is (e.g. I remember when Andrew Tate was first popping up, she was on H3H3 podcast and she said something along the lines of "yes, but he's an arab and they're like... that..." and Ethan then corrected her, and she's been more careful since.) It's just that she is very funny which makes it easy to overlook those things.

K my thing is that all of these commentary channels that people are annoyed at for not making videos don't normally make those types of videos and I've not seen them share the space for a massive while. Idk I'm not sure it's necessarily useful for that area to be the biggest focus when the focus should be on cody. Or like they should put a community post or something. But i can't imagine putting out a statement if my colleague did a crime. But then again i'm not in the public eye but I could legitimately see them not knowing about this and not thinking they are close bc they made videos years ago. Especially when alot of them seem to spout the value of not being online and I could imagine that if the Internet was your job then you wouldn't use it in the same way that we would if that makes sense

Im kind of torn when it comes to demanding other commentary youtubers to respond. On one hand, AT LEAST MAKE A TWEET!!! But on the other, i personally follow a lot of youtubers that only upload like, once a month on average. The ones that post more frequently tend to focus more on goofy content rather than serious incidents, so i could understand why some of them, despite being under the category of "commentary", might not make a video (outside of considering whether or not they were even aware of the situation, because thats really difficult to prove imo). BUT on the other, I feel like its too big to NOT address, especially if they've collabed with Cody in the past/are associated with him in any way. Again, at least a TWEET would be better than silence. At least make it clear where you stand without us having to hound you for clarity!!! I don't know if I'll drop any of them just yet, but I'm definitely scrutinizing them more than before.

So glad that you brought up the point about females victim blaming alongside guys. So enraging because what really gets me is that one day they themselves will be victims and instead of taking that time to reflect on how they treated victims previous to themselves, they will want sympathy even though they never gave any to any of the others. I am so grateful to D'angelo but I did share the same sentiments about how aggravating it is and it took a man to get the story out there and to get people taking it seriously. Just last night I saw on Instagram doctors talking about that women's menstrual cramps feel as bad as having a heart attack. Of course it would take a guy to get women heard and understood or believed. We always have to have a guy validate us before anyone will listen to anything we've been saying for f****** decades or even centuries!
