This performance is a tribute for Narges an Iranian woman sitting in prison for standing up for womens rights in Iran. Angelina toned this way down compared to her Porthsmouth NH performance out of respect for the Nobel folks and Narges cuz she didnt want it to be about herself but for Narges. Nick, it's not often when you become speechless and those moments touched all of us who follow you. Angelina? Nick, she sang this directly to the imprisoned woman in Iran who was the recipient of the award and to her family (twin children, a boy and a girl, and her husband) now living in France. Her connection? The Nobel Peace Prize is held annually in Oslo, Norway, where Angelina was born. Also, Angelina's grandma is Iranian. Lastly, Narges Mohammadi was imprisoned because of her stand for woman's rights and for the oppression of women in general. Angelina's hope is the Iranian authorities reconsider her case and set her free after serving YEARS in prison so that her family can be reunited.

This performance, for many reasons, was very special to Angelina. Yes, she could have wowed us with power and belting, but she chose to handle it with care and tenderness. We can hear and feel the sadness and longing in her voice, crying out for the release of Narges and for her return to her family.

Always appreciate your expertise and insightfulness, from which I have learned a lot. Taken in the context in which she did it, this performance was absolutely beautiful and amazingly appropriate. It was meant to pay honour and tribute to 2023 Nobel Peace Prize winner, Narges Mohammadi, now in prison in Iran simply because she was fighting for women's rights in Iran. She thus couldn't receive the prize in person. It was therefore accepted by her children, now living in exile in France, who have not seen their mother in years. The soul-stirring emotion, pathos and reverence that she infused into this performance, so stunningly appropriate for this particular occasion, made it sound almost like a prayer.

Angelina moves between genres so effortlessly. One of the best jazz singers around today, Angelina can also stand in front of a great orchestra and show us a completely different side of her voice. She sings this with complete respect for the original, but still surprises us with her own interpretation of the lyrics-and that interpretation is spot on. Her vocal ability, her emotion, her class all come together here, and we feel the weight of the lyrics and the dignity of this Nobel performance.
