Deborah, a beautiful interpretation of the meaning of the song, but there may be many different interpretations. Even if Angelina may have written this with a specific interpretation in mind, there is nothing wrong with entertaining other interpretations. Indeed it is a soulfull song with lyrics that invite that. What is an angel? Is it a messenger from God, another fellow human being? What is a shield, is it a physical shield or a conceptual shield, a counter measure towards all evil? Angelina's depth of thinking is well beyond her years, just as her skills as a singer and performer. Perhaps you could react to her other song "What is life" which I find to be a very deep and thoughtful attempt to find "the meaning of life". If you think for some time on what is life really, I think you are ready to react - she actually gives at least 3 different ideas about what is life, without giving a fixed answer, very thought provoking.

You are not the only one who see God as her shield in this song. I have seen a few. And I also think Angelina want us to give it a thought more then one way. But I dont think God was on her mind when she wrote this. I believe the family, her mum and grandma, the closest people protecting her, are her shield. But I love that you are thinking of God here. When I printed out the lyrics to make sure that I had heard them correctly I was disturbed. They seem to imply that she might have been abused and that she had been guilty of something. After hearing your interpretation I am somewhat reassured as the lyrics do seem to reflect the influence of the biblical story. I hope that her parents (and her promoter uncle) will safeguard her as she moves to a new and more vulnerable point in her career. Thanks for the review!

I'm not a religious person at all, and I don't know how religious she is, but from a "secular perspective" I can appreciate the strong resonance Angelina's "singing career" up to this point has had with the biblical story that (as I understand it) gave the word "talent" its modern English meaning. She certainly has put her talents to "good use", has she not? (Children's charities and the like.)
