It doesn’t matter what order you choose to listen to Angelina. From 7 to now 18, she will mesmerize you, make you smile, make you cry again, and just make you happy to listen to her everyday. Pick anything you like: any title, any age, any genre. You just watched Angelina give you the old school blues this song requires. She inhabits different genres just as convincingly and authentically as you saw today. For most people, their musical life changes the day they discover Angelina.

don't you find that listening to young Angelina is actually a .... confrontation? No other singer has arrested me like this young lady. Her a-Capella audition of Billie Holiday's classic I'm A Fool To Want You was for me... evidence of something more than mere human talent. There I said it.

Angelina was 9 years old in this performance - Her nationality is Norwegian but is fluent in English even at this age - This song was not arranged for her - she wrote the vocal arrangement based on listening to the original Screamin' Jay Hawkins version and communicated to the band how she wanted it to be played - in fact, at the beginning of the video you see Angelina writing down some last-minute changes and it is read by the bandleader. You also notice that her own handwritten notes are on the music stand in front of her as she sings. For more insight into how Angelina works, here is a rehearsal video with some of the same band members at the same age (9 yrs old) - You will see that she is aware of what each musician is doing and communicates to them what she wants to do. The first thing she says is that she wants to start, followed by her saying she wants to start over, later she tells the pianist that the key is too low and that she wants to raise it a half-tone, then at the end of the song she changes the ending on the fly. The spoken language is Norwegian: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bpaWZtdkydOmkp8.html

Robert, I wish to offer my sincere apologies for the bizarre rant I subjected you to a few weeks ago. I had been ill and not sleeping for about three days and took sleeping meds to try to get to sleep. I didn't do that, but it did make me kinda nuts. In addition to involving you in my crazy ideas, I also burned a pan on the stove because I forgot I had started the food cooking on the stove. You have my most sincere apologies. If I have given offense, please know that I did not intend to do so. If you know of anyone who was offended, please let them know that I am sorry.

Before you started the video you said "I'm ready, I'm ready!" And I said "NO, No you aren't !!! You will never be ready! She will hit you with a surprise that shocks you inner senses every time! She's been doing it to me for almost 10 years and thousands of times listening to her music and she still gets to me every time I hear a new song or a new rendition of one she has done before. She has done Unchained melody (my all time favorite song since I first heard it back in the 1950s) several times (at 8, 9, 11, and 3 times at 17). I was setting 30 feet from her when she sang it at her concert on Sept 22 2023 and before she finished the first line, I was crying! She slowed it way down, added more emotion than I had ever heard even from her and by the time she finished I knew she had just done that song better than anyone else! Then 3 months later at the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony she shocked me again with the same song, but she did it very differently, and put an entirely different meaning to the song (more like the original from the movie "Unchained" in 1955)! I still cannot decide which version is best! You really should listen (react) to the Nobel peace prize version to see what she sounds like today (4 weeks ago)!

Please watch her Nobel Peace performance. honoring the Iranian woman whose life of activism for 10:19 women's rights has her imprisoned for many years . Her two children..the same age as Angelina were there accepting the award for her. The lovingly tender agony of longing for her children is almost too hard to beat. I'm overwhelmed by the beauty of it.

Angelina was near her 9th birthday when she created her arrangement and gave this remarkable performance. The musicians lovingly called her 'the boss' as she knew exactly how she wanted to sing the song. I love the very end of the video with Angelina reflecting on what she just did. She is blessed with a set of skills unlike any other I know of. It is like she has a connection with musical heaven, given all the skills of the greats from decades past and also fully understanding mature human emotions. I look forward to your future reactions.

She came into the spotlight on Norway's Got Talent, when she auditioned at age 7, and here's a video of that with subtitles. But her first studio recordings were when she was 6 while attending the Oslo Waldorf School and participating in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program. Let the wheel pick for you...there is a lot more continuity in her development than you may imagine. Yes, you can tell that her voice matures along the way, and that some of the techniques improve, but...but...what is there at every turn is her respect for the original, her unique vocals and arrangements, and how she (as many have said) upgrades or improves on the song by infusing the lyrics with emotion and putting her stamp on the performance...across many genres, many artists, older and newer songs... It just goes on and on. I have returned to listen to many, many performances and found them just as enjoyable as the first time I heard them. I listen to her everyday. I will be 81 years old next month, and I can attest to the fact that Angelina is the closest thing to an ANGEL I have ever listened to...so go enjoy yourself!

Just in case you don't know, as long as the video player has "focus", and as long as the recording software you're using doesn't interfere, you should be able to use keystrokes to pause and unpause (k or the space bar) the video, and move back (← or j) and forth (→ or l) on the timeline. That's usually a lot easier than doing all that with the mouse. Type a question mark to get help on other keyboard commands in the player.

You got it. It's incredibly moving to experience that level of purity in voice, effort, talent, control, her living and breathing such deep feelings, and see it wrapped in such a young person. And we feel this in many many of her songs. Later we remove the very young factor and she still amazes and touches us deeply. Then you learn that she has helped raise millions for needy children.

The first rule of listening to Angelina Jordan is that there is no shame in tears. Keep a box of tissues handy, because when she wants you to cry you're gonna cry. When she wants you to smile, you'll smile. You'll discover that Angelina sings the emotions of a song, not just the words and notes. She has the incredible ability to move you with her art, to communicate directly to your soul and stir memories and emotions you'd forgotten about. When she "uncovers" a song you've heard a thousand times before, all of a sudden you get it, you understand the song in a totally new way. Enjoy the journey. I'm going to enjoy watching you discover our Barefoot Princess.

I say go ahead and indulge in taking it slow, starting with the younger years. There are thankfully 100s of videos of her, and she's not going anywhere. So many of the Jordan videos are good 'out of the box' and you won't need to look deeply to find the treasures. They're littered like glinting sand all over the shore. That said, I don't think doing modern AJ stuff and then going back will really be a problem. People have done it both ways and each performance stands on it's own. After all, we're not talking about the development of a single style or skill, but a cornucopia of styles and voices that each one are tuned to the specific kind of music required. Yes, there is progression over time, but it isn't as steep as it is broad if you consider how many different styles she's covered and composed. Have a great journey I'll be watching along. I'm a musician and tech so your engineering background is very relatable.

"You wonder how it's possible…" Almost those exact words were spoken by one of the judges after her "Gloomy Sunday" audition on _Norske Talenter_ [Norway's Got Talent].🙂 You didn't suggest anything like this, but if you (anyone) were a very skeptical person, you might think, "Of course this is phenomenal… it's a studio recording. She probably sang this 100 times to get takes that were that good." Then you see her singing in front of a live audience on a (prerecorded) TV show (like AGT:TC, from your first AJ reaction), and you think, "Eh… it wasn't _broadcast_ live. They could have improved her vocals 'in post'." Then you see/hear her performing on a live broadcast (TV or radio), and you think, "Well… I don't _hear_ any autotune, but maaaybe…". Then you see her singing in rehearsals, singing in unedited videos she shot at home, singing in live streams, singing along with karaoke tracks, singing with a live musician or two, singing accompanying herself on piano or guitar, singing a cappella, singing just walking down the street or through a parking garage… and even singing when she was friggin' 1½ years old (which I talked about under your first AJ reaction). At some point, there is simply no other alternative explanation for what you're seeing and hearing: this girl was quite simply born to sing. (BTW, we don't know how many takes it took to get this audio you just heard, but for reference, just about a year later she recorded her version of Amy Winehouse's "Back to Black" - posted online as a similar "studio recording session" music video the day after it was recorded, and relased as a digital single and then on an EP - in damn-near a single take. Raw footage recorded in the studio control room by her grandmother reveals [or stongly suggests, anyway - about 10% of the song has been removed in 3 edits, presumably for copyright reasons] that almost the entire second take was used, with only a single line needing to be dropped in from the first take. Based on that and other evidence we have about how her studio recordings were done "back then", I'd wager that she only had to sing this 2 or 3 times all the way through, and then maybe do a few short retakes on any parts that she hadn't already nailed. Certainly, I would not expect the total number of audio takes that they actually ended up using to be above, say, 5. And I would say there's a decent chance it was 2 or fewer. [Of course, the visuals are a different matter. Who knows how long it took to capture all of that.])

To me this goes far beyond talent: it is a gift Angelina has. In an interview in 2014 (she was 8 at the time) Angelina said "I think music has found me". And in another interview, when she was about the same age, "For me singing is like breathing". Since she was 8, Angelina is heavily involved in every arrangement of the songs she sings or, like this one(!!) she writes the arrangement herself... That little paper at the start of this video are her instructions for the musicians. Isn't that tell the story? And to this day that has not changed. No doubt: Angelina is working very, very, hard to reach her goals and her record label has provide her her own studio where she can "do her magic" whenever she feels inspiration to do so. Now Angelina is 18 and we all have to wait and see what is comming. When you like to know where Angelina is comming from: watch this British documentary on KZfaq: "Born to sing, Angelina Jordan. The early years, 2006-2014". And more recently (just a few weeks ago) "Arab Man Reacts" has made a really wonderful video "Angelina-The Next Great One" about Angelina's carrier so far. Both are very informative and worth to watch.

Thanks for the wonderful and aware reaction, Ginx. This song is one of the important steps to understand the singularity of Angelina's talent. It's unreal like her, from a very young person, she choice to use her incredible passion and understanding through music in a splendid way, especially for these legendary songs. She is definitely the only 9-year-old girl who understands and has the courage and the ability to sing this song from Screaming' Jay, so imbued with his power, and reorganize it according to her musical sensibility and vision. I sincerely believe that this it's the most beautiful version of this song, over 60 years since it was written and there are much of versions of it, also interpreted by great singers. 💛🧡❤

A barefoot princess with a hypnotic voice. She was only 9 years old when she performed this song. It is her tribute to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, an American singer/songwriter. He wrote and performed it in 1956 and Angelina based her performance on the original, although she did make some subtle alterations to both lyrics and melody. As you continue your journey of discovering Angelina, you will come to realise that she does her own arrangements of most of the cover songs she sings. The differences may not be immediately discernible on first listening to them, but they are there. There may be a subtle change in tempo or tone, or more inflexion on some words, or a phrase may differ in pitch from the original. The amount of control that Angelina has over her voice cannot be measured. She never hurries a song. She sings in such a way that the emotions in the lyrics are felt by the listener. In this video did you notice:Angelina finishing some notes and handing them to the pianist, who smiled as he read them? They were her wishes (instructions) to the band how she wished therm to play the music. In the band, she was called a boss.

This was the first thing I ever heard from Angelina. I had scrolled past it for two or three days as having seen the little girl and the song title I thought it was probably cute but little more. So I eventually went in cold. As you have just discovered, even being warned does little to prepare you for the reality. I ended up in tears too! It's like watching an athlete go past what you thought was humanly possible, and you are inspired by what humans can do. That's what Angelina will do for you over and over and over again! I have listened to her nearly every day since and have absolutely become a better human being by doing so.

I must have listened to this performance 30 times in the weekend I discovered it. Many a tear fell from these old eyes as well; the natural reaction when something divine finds its way into our universe. It's the song that made me an Angelina fan. I'll point to two of the qualities that set Angelina's music apart from that of her peers: first, her vision for the song is absolute and not swayed by impediments such as physical age and size; second, the emotional authenticity that her choices of technique and dynamics convey. She sings 100% for the song. That kind of dedication will always elevate any artistic expression. Great reaction, GINX! For something a little more contemporary, you might like her original song, Good In Goodbyes, from her recent EP Old Enough. Here's a link: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/sN95fcqmsZe-eGw.html

Hello again, Ginx! And thanks a lot for another great reaction to our girl. This particular performance IS quite impossible to describe with words tbh. We only have SO many adjectives to describe something extremely good, and so you feel that your vocabulary isn't adequate to describe things in a way that you haven't already done before, most likely dozens and dozens of times. And if there is ONE thing you don't really want to do, it's giving the impression that she is just another dime a dozen. But it's all good, Ginx, You did a good job at it 🙂 I have probably seen a thousand reactions (not even kidding) to this performance, and so far I haven't heard anyone come up with a word that settles everything about the performance. There was this ONE reactor once who actually came up with a cool word, normally not associated with music, namely UMAMI.. Hehe I personally think it makes quite a bit of sense. As for the order of reactions to her, I think you should go through with her 4 performances on Norway's Got Talent, which she won at age 8, and also maybe her performance of "I Who Have Nothing". Her fans are quite divided about her age in that performance, some fans even use the growth (or lack thereof) of her teeth to determine her age. The common understanding is that she was 6 years old. It is a spectacular performance regardless. After those I think you should feel absolutely free to go where you want with her. For instance if you see a song you really like that she has covered, just go with that one as it is absolutely risk free. She will never let you down. At least it hasn't happened to me in my 10 years of following her. Lastly I just want to thank you for the live on Friday, as it gives your viewers a good opportunity to get to know you a little better. And I think it is awesome that you will do a part 2, though I can't join you because of the time difference. It's OK on a Friday or Saturday, but mid week is a no go for me 😉 Enjoy the rest of the weekend and take care! And don't be a stranger😆 Much love from Norway ♥♥♥♥♥

It is often overwhelming emotionally to watch, feel, and hear AJ sing. For me, it's a combination of some sort of existential conundrum - there is no explanation for this! And then there is the emotion that she makes you feel. And then , she wiggles her way into your heart because of her nature - her humility and generosity...you feel so proud of her like she was your own child. This girl can heal you and heal the world!

Keep in mind, that this is from the original " Screaming Jay Hawkins" not the Nina Samone one everyone is used to. There is so much to say about her, but I'll just mention two. First her professionalism at 9, and second WHAT does a 9 year old girl know about Jay Hawkins. The sophistication of this Child. I will love seeing you do more AJ reactions. The Angelina Wheel, that is the most original idea l have heard from a reactor staring down the rabbit hole. How about do an Angelina Monday off her 200+ list randomly.

What the great reaction and response to Angelina's mind-blowing performance. You have to also realize she at 9 years old arranged this song with those studio musicians the way she wanted to sing it and delivered it in the most unbelievable fashion possible. You are totally right Angelina is an old soul and it just comes out through her vocals with all the jazz nuances, inflections, rasp, vibrato and dynamics necessary to deliver a song that is this iconic. She sounds like a season professional that has been singing for decades and witnessed all to sing this song in her life. She understands the lyrics and its uuncanny to watch ! . At that age to be able to deliver a meaningful, emotional, dynamic performance with all the control necessary. id unbelievable ! She is a child prodigy that it's for sure and as you continue your journey in the rabbit hole through all the years you will always come back to little Angelina when she was 9 or 8: or 7 or 6: years old and fall in love with our barefoot princes as we all have over the past 10 years. Keep posting my friend. You are so much appreciated and I love your response and your reaction because they come from your heart and it's so amazing to witness. Sending you much thanks and love from Canada 👍🇨🇦❤️❤️

Ginx thanks for your Honest Reaction. I told you she will blow you away. The Picture on the Candle at the start of the Song was "Screamin Jay Hawkins" the Original Singer of this Song. At the Start you saw her writing on the paper that is the way she arranges her song. It was a Norwegian Band. As she is getting older her voice is becoming a pleasure to liste. Some of the Original Songs are "Million Miles Away","7th Heaven" & "Old enough" her EP. The Covers which are Mind Blowing and Mind Blogging are "Stay" By Rihanna "I'd Rather Go Blind" By Etta James "Feeling Good" By Nina Simone "Yiu Say" By Lauren Dighe "Easy on Me" By Adele "Suspicious Mind" By Te Great Elvis Not to Mention " Bille Jean" & "Hela the World" By the Famous Iconic Singer Michael Jackson

You have to remember that by age nine she had already been training her voice 4-6 hours a day 7 days a week for 6 years, starting at age three when Angelina started watching jazz videos of Billie Holliday and other greats with her Grandma Mery. She didn’t come by these skills without a lot of hard work. She entered an afternoon school program where she was taught to read, deconstruct and rearrange music and play the piano and the guitar. Obviously she had an extremely high IQ or she wouldn’t have been able to absorb all of that at such a young age. The only vocal lessons she has ever had have been on how to not damage her vocal cords and how to take care of them.

It doesn't matter how many times I hear Angelina sing this, it just amazes me. She is just like a kid climbing on the playground climbers... giving it everything she's got. You have now entered Angelina's idea of play, though she's deadly serious and a little pro, even here. I'm tickled by the thought of Angelina and her Grandma Mery, or her Mom, coming across Screamin' Jay Hawkins' version. It's pretty crazy. I would love you to listen to "Summertime". It's George Gershwin's version, sung for the finale, and the win, on Norway's Got Talent, at seven years old. I am thoroughly enjoying your reactions. You're fun and appreciative, and knowledgeable. I hope you keep enjoying giving the reactions, as much as you do now, because it's contagious!

SHORE SM7B is a broadcast Mike, right? Works well in this setting. (As you’re a techno buff) At 12 (or 13) she got a NEUMANN TLM 102 for her birthday. First time we saw her using it is in the cover of an Etta James song “I’d rather go blind”. She uses the mike backwards for effect. (Some reckon she turned it to protect it from damage 😂. There’s some belting at the end and the mike is expensive!) At 15 she gets an upgrade to a TLM 103, as seen on her renditions of “Billie Jean” and “Yesterday”. The videos are cool techno color in these two.

Howdy from Houston. I see on the side bar it seems you have reacted to AJ singing on AGT about 3 days ago and you reacted to this 59 minutes ago? .... nice! You're reaction to this song is typical of everybody else who has reacted and the thousands upon thousands who have heard her sing IPASOY. I understand, Angelina maybe couple of weeks before AGT she sung "Suspicious Minds" Beautifully produced video and of course she nails it singing it. Be ready to listen in on the very first note of that one. I would love to see your reaction to it just to see your facial expression! Lol! She performed 4 songs on Norway's Got Talent and I guess by now you know she won! She won the thing at 7 yrs of age! Who has won a major talent show like that at such a young age.?! Its charming to say the least to watch and actually more like stunning. Of the four, my fav was Bang, Bang. The songs are jazz / blues classicals like 2 from Billie Holiday. Check her out. Also, around maybe 10 another to check out and oh so different is a video of scenery with an inset of her, singing "How Great Thou Art" Lets just say Elvis reincarnated in her as she masterfully sung the heavens out it. For me its a blast to see, like with this one, reactors fall out of their chairs!. I cried the first time I watched it. Then there's Rusty Shackleford. A musician who created a channel, and I'm guessing he's a very good friend of AJ's family. Its a playlist of over 200 videos her singing. And no its not a typo... 200 and counting... Still!. For me, it was December of 2022 when I first heard AJ sing and it was this one. I found out about Rusty's channel and in the ensuing months watch all of them! Couldn't help myself. At the time is was around 140. Fortunately for us fans / angels her family was / is a very camera happy family. There's even one of her at 18 months old, its only about 10 seconds or so, holding a mic and listening to a song by Whitney Houston and barely audible, but it seems she's try to sing along! I wish I could remember in which video but its at the very end of one. Maybe someone here in these comments knows which one to let you know..... Enjoyed your reaction and funny to hear you say the "F" word but not really surprised! Peace out...

Haha 😊 Hey Gina! So nice to see you react to AJ again so quickly! Yeah . . . what do you say? You can't put it into words - we all know that. And this will continue to happen to you over and over and over. It's ok. Keep going. It really doesn't matter what you watch next (there are sooo many fantastic things she's done). Your "wheel" idea is a good one. Or you could do something from her NGT performances. Or she did a lot of crazy good things when she was 10-13 (Feelin' Good, Back to Black, It's a Man's World, I'm Still Holding Out for You). Or any of her early originals (Shield, Million Miles, 7th Heaven). I also suggest you wait on her newest stuff until you've heard a little bit more from her past. But honestly - you choose whatever strikes your fancy. Just keep going. Thank you for your support for AJ. Loving that you're doing these... xo

Quincy Jones called AJ the best talent since MJ. Then proceeded to have her open his 80th birthday concert with Fly Me To The Moon (Frank Sinatra's version) in the O2 Arena in London. She has so much musicality that she can cover a song, ending up 'owning' it, yet still respecting the source material and original artist, whether it's Billy Holiday or Adele. Btw, her 2023 EP 'Old Enough' is an absolute banger.
