I am in awe when I see a person deal with a situation that I would decide warranted an anger response from me but they don’t get angry and deal with the person in a helpful, solution focused positive manner. That really is a skill.

I grew up being taught fighting and being “tough” rather than excepting and being kind to myself or anyone else for that matter. I have children who I love that I do not want to see me that way, I want them to grow up with the tools they need to get through a day peacefully, and this has helped for today. Thank you

I’m listening to this after an extended period of stressful situations has made me feel more anger than usual. Understanding where that anger comes from makes it a lot easier to handle along with remembering to be kind to yourself….and if there are people in your life who won’t listen or be gentle with you during hard times it’s often necessary to get space from those people, at least for a little while.

I so agree with you. I HATE being angry too! You know what though? The ‘hate and anger’ we feel ABOUT our anger (!) becomes just one more thing to add to our low self esteem, and another thing to get angry at ourselves. Which bubbles underneath at ourselves, and often gets taken out verbally on our nearest loved one. I think the reason we are the hardest on our loved ones, is because we feel safe in knowing that they will still love us.

The day my anger scared me. I knew I was in trouble so I isolated myself. She came in egging me on until I lost it. I remember the excitement on her face as I yelled at her even though she was backing away. She wanted me to lose control. I have never struck anyone or anything in anger, but I was about to with her. Then Jason stepped out of the bathroom right between us and broke the spell. She was pregnant. I don't have episodes like that any more where I lose control. Now, I have had controled episodes and I had fun responding while I laughed at the person. My problem is I'm a mouse, a push over. I feel I need that anger to assert myself. I've taken a lot of notes from this video. Now on to the next one.

This is kind of my personal problem but my parents don't believe anything I say. They do love me and I love them as well but when they don't believe whatever I tell them, I get angry. I don't know what's wrong with them because I stopped that stuff ages ago (when I was 11). I'm 16 and I'm still forced to do things that a toddler would need to do. I'm a pre med student and I need to study atleast till 11pm or 12pm just to get the best out of myself but I'm forced to sleep somewhere near 9 or 8 which wastes alot of my time that I could've used for some other things. I am deeply hurt whenever they don't believe me and trust me this is not a problem that can be solved by me because even if I want to get someone to help me, it will cost money which is difficult for me because my parents just stopped giving me my pocket money 2 years ago and I can't ask them for the money as well. Is there any solution because I'm about to lose it everytime it happens and I don't want to do anything violent, its just that I want to live rightfully and peacefully with a family that understands

You have to have an open and honest talk with yourself and with them and build the relation again on trust. Your actions over time will show them that you’re trustworthy and all the pain and hurt will be in the past.

I’ve always had anger problems, too add to it, I’ve recently relapsed on opiates and now am two weeks clean. My emotions are ever more fucked up right now than they usually are. It’s costing me a 6 year relationship with the most perfect girl. It’s 100% my fault and my anger. I need this to help me see what triggers my more “horrible” (to put it nicely) outburst. I’m glad somebody was kind enough to create a video for the issue.

@Doc Snipes Not sure which video was better as far as information goes but I will definitely use everything I've learned from both of them! I'm right now on the verge of Divorce because of my anger and temper problems that I tend to aim directly towards my Wife. I'm not even sure why? I've had these issues since I was I child, I've always blamed it on my fathers death when I was 11 yrs old. That was the beginning of me acting out. My mom never new how to deal or cope so she eventually turned to alcohol and I eventually turned to just being an ass!! So now as a married adult I'm horrible even now coping with these issues of snapping at her and just being plain ole mean!! She moved outta the bedroom and into the basement just to get away from me, now she's going to leave me if I can't show her that I'm actually doing something to help with my anger. I pray that I found these videos in time, but we'll see. Thanks again, I've learned alot from them, let's just pray I haven't lost the best thing that's ever happened to me. Wish me luck because I'll need it!!

Do people who aren't angry have to do stupid exercises and techniques to not get angry? I've never committed to doing silly "tricks" because the thought of having to do it makes me feel grossly inadequate so I'd rather just be angry. It's not fair that I need to go so far out of my way to not get angry when it seems that others don't have to go through hoops to not blow up all the time

That. Literally what I though. I am sick and tired of having to constantly monitor and edit myself in order to 'function properly', it just feels very dehumanizing. Sometimes I think what is the point... It's literally feels like my emotions are never justified which makes me even more angry...
@CDexie

Getting your anger under control isn't a bad or dehumanising thing. It also doesn't mean you're inadequate. That's like saying you feel inadequate taking pills when you're sick and you get frustrated that people can be totally healthy all the time without even trying.

I've read that trying to distract yourself makes it worse since you don't ever end up solving the isue and will think about it later. And it conflicts with the idea of urge surfing.

Like sometimes anger runs so deep because it is a few issues that are bugging you and so you blow at something that seems minor to some one else. But that solves nothing. Just have a think about what has specifically made you angry and explain to yourself mentally first what is upsetting you. Then explain to the person who has provoked your anger but explain it to yourself first and see if it sounds daft or petty really. But if you can’t explain your anger to yourselves or understand it, how the heck can anyone else understand what is upsetting you .

And I also realised recently that I might say something to someone that will trigger something In me that I am already perturbed about with that person so I will cause an argument unaware to me what I am doing, about something that has nothing to do with my actual problem that I am really bothered about, and the the other person is thinking why the fuck are you trying to cause trouble with me. But I only realise what I did after and that it was completely out of order of me to do that because what I said had nothing to Do with my real problem . But it takes real insight into yourself to work this out or for someone to help to make you see this. For example well I could explain but fuck it, I hope you can understand what I mean here.

I do as well as others have the power not to be angry unless my life is being threatented to the point that soon in a few more moments I could be dead. Anxiety is a very different emotion than that dramatic kind of survival anger down to very lowest end of the range of anger during for example when having to wait for your next glass of water and bathroom break in a busy fast paced work environment where the odd person around there who cannot cope with anxiety much at all during the work day and so during that work day they choose to let it cross over to the realm of anger too. Like when being angry forever about every single loss of property value cause by for example anotehr stained toilet or one damaged by a teenager in a rage who didn't know their own strength on another piece of their property and then taking it out on another adult renter again while the smokers in your other work place are doing the same too. Anxiety leads to depression too with far less wear and tear on the person's body and loss of money in the long run than anger which often causes people to overdo their efforts while jumping to conclusions. When the person with that anxiety is not doing the inner work of learning more about their environment in general without blame while looking for solutions they project that anxiety back and forth which tests the patience of anyone there to some degree or other unless there is a supervisor who can take charge in the most positive balance and protdective of the most people possible there way. Which is why sometimes the person who looks like the strongest one who has it altogether in only some situations can behind closed doors be so hard to live with while wasting inordinate amounts of energy while their wife behind those closed doors while managing anxiety well there in some unusual circumstance can get themselves out of a very dangerous situation long enough to get away from that angry person. Like following what was taught to you during water safety life saving while someone on land behind you while stting down on a couch is trying to choke you to death from behind. When very small children feel anxious while in the next room while all that is going on only hearing what is going on later they step up their efforts to play. Well you know as well as any parent with real experience like me that while looking after children that when they put maximum energy into play things are not going to go smooth always there in the larger environment there. And so that too feeds into the cycle of anger and abuse which almost always goes hand in hand. And so the child after learning how to play too by acting their way through life then at around age 30 when it is starting to get to them starts as an adult too while getting often angry unless an intervention is done the whole cycle all over again. Like adults who are still pretending to be gay to get by just like they pretended to do once in order to deal with emotional starvation because of their disengaged parents while they were a pre-teen and then taking that act out onto the street as a prostitutes. When a person pretends to do something long enough while pointing fingers at everyone else while convenient forgetting your past misdeeds long ago then it is inevitable that you will start to believe your own deception and then almost always sooner or later that person like that will start feeling like a total failure by turning all of that both anger and anxiety in onto themselves while starting to believe that for example their own limbs are never going to work properly again while still alive and/or that their financial picture is never going to improve during and after a pandemic well enough to buy your own car or whatever so as passenger the driver will not bite both of your heads off at the same time. Which is 'hilarious' when every busy body in town later after something like that happens starts assuming for example that you instead were the driver. Just another maybe excuse for an angry person to get angry at the busy body anxious person nurse at their family doctor's office next too. A lot more fun to laugh at that situation instead too after being told by doctors and physiotherapists that they will be sure after that roll over car accident will be both making a complete recovery. A waste of time getting angry at it. Just another way while laughing at the situation later with the driver to recover better and faster from that broken rib. Unless of course there happens to be someone around who you know that takes things so serious that anything someone is doing out there that would not be like them in their culture would set them off on a tangent full of flimsy logic based assumptions. In that case just step around a person like that instead of making any kind of commitment on working with them in any office.
