Our journey from Alaska to Oshkosh, Wisconsin has one final push, and then we're there. Flying our hearts out, in the middle of winter, our flight has brought us to the final day.
This 1963 Cessna 172 truly is "the little airplane that could." 23U has been a great flying machine for our flight school over the years, but now it's time for upgrades. Avionics upgrades, to be exact. It'll get a major makeover done to the instrument panel with modern avionics.
Our trip has taken us through Alaska and to the ALCAN Highway, where we follow the road through Whitehorse, Watson Lake, Ft Nelson and Grande Prairie, Canada. Then we stop in Rocky Mountain House and Lethbridge for fuel before entering back into the United States at Great Falls.
That is where we start on this flight -- the airplane is all loaded up, and we're ready for this long cross country, ALMOST 1000 nautical miles, to Oshkosh. We'll have some stops along the way, but we should be able to fly all the way there in this one day, hopefully getting some tailwinds along the way.
Daniel has been my copilot for the flight. I taught Daniel to fly in a lot of ways, and we've had a really great time in this Cessna 172. In fact, Daniel was the previous owner. I've just taken ownership, and he gets to take the trip down with me to Oshkosh.
I couldn't ask for a better flying better, and the laughs we share shows exactly that.
