Bought the tube for a trip to Florida and overall was impressed. The only downside is you cant stop the tube from shortening past a certain point without the pegs. Ill explain what i mean. I had 4, 7ft custom made rods i put in the tube and packed it up perfect to where the top of the tube would not smash the rods. Checked it at the airline and the TSA opened it up to do a check on it. Because they didn't know the height of the rods nor did they take the time to check if they put it back correct they broke the tips of my rod from smashing it down... My suggestion: get a pvc pipe 2-3 inches taller then your tallest rod and put it in the tube along with the rods so the TSA cant push the top on past the point of the pvc! Overall happy with the product just PISSED when they broke my rods!!!

Hi were you able to carry the case with you on the plane, or had to pay for a checked. baggage fee?

The same thing happened to me. Packed my rods perfectly and rolled each individually to keep cushioning. TSA untied and unwrapped everything, smashed the rods back in the tube, and pushed the case back together as far as it would go. Broke all 6 of my rods and wasted fishing trip to Hawaii. NEVER AGAIN. I will only use PVC Pipe when travel through the airlines. Unfortunately it seems they don't have training on how to carefully treat people's possessions. Especially those who have obviously packed the gear carefully and precisely. Just my 2 cents.

For the TSA to know how to put back together at the intended length, you need to cover all holes with silver duck tape except the one where the peg needs to go in. Or for a more permanent set length just rivet a stopper on the inside of the outer shell.

Great comprehensive review. Considering the size, unfortunately, it's overkill for my needs. Generally I carry only 4 rods at,a time. Thanks also for the comments on the DIY solution.

Nice review, but insert the handle side first rather then the tip because when u stand it up on the wheels the rods weight will go towards the tips which is not a good idea...just a suggestion:)

Im looking for a Storage case like this. But im wanting it to be able to accommodate my reel also ( a complete fishing rod) not just the rods. Can you recommend any to me? I have 2 Nice Penn rods i'm taking off to college but i don't want to take a chance with them getting stolen or broken in transportation.

coldairkillerd You can probably fit the rod with the reel in this case, but you won't be able to fit as many rods as you would without the reels installed.

great stuff. Was thinking about getting a Bazuka for my 2 piece 13ft beach casting outfits but now I'll reconsider. The price is putting me off somewhat though as it is almost double the retail price of the Bazuka

When I bought the plano, the cost difference was about $40, but we felt the cost difference was justified when I saw both cases up close and when considering the value of the rods I'm travelling with. The plano just seemed more durable - reviews online seemed to support this.

Has anyone flown Allegiant Air with this by chance? Traveling to Orlando, and was wondering how they charge for this. I'm also considering just shipping UPS or Fed Ex...

siwatha meas It depends on the airline - fees are constantly changing. We recommend that you contact your airline in advance with the dimensions and approx. weight to get an exact figure.

I plan to buy this case but company ask 45€ (50$) extra for the “oversized” bag. And my plane ticket was just 32€ (37$) from canary island to Spain (mainland)

What do you have to do to get the cases on the plane

It depends on your individual airline. In our case, we had to check it in as "sports equipment", the same way one would check in their skis or snowboard - there was an extra fee associated with that. Also, one of our connecting flights was a small commuter plane, and the length of the case just made the cut for maximum length. It's best to contact your airline in advance to confirm process, fees and maximum size allowed.
