Here’s the nearly bomb proof version of the DIY Rod Tube, as requested. This is a heavier tube, but it’s Virtually Indestructible. If you lash it down, it doesn’t matter what happens to your bike, your boat, your truck, your hang glider or whatever; if you find it in the wreckage, your rod’s probably still OK.

The Air Canada Standard is a rigid proving ground for sure. Was that the one where the pilot was wearing cowboy boots?

Looks cool. I like the additional rings on it. They can also serve as a stop for a strap.

Christopher Ort: You got it! I've strapped them to handle bars, backpacks, boats, atv's, etc. A buddy of mine put a rifle sling on his!

yes this is what I'm doing with mine too. not sure what type of strap I'll use yet... suggestions are welcome. I'm thinking very lightweight

Would coupling also work instead of cutting the ends out of the caps ?

Richie McGlothlin: Yes, that would probably work but you would still have to make a cut on each side of the rib that's around the inside of the centre point of the coupling. Let me know if it works!

@coreyshortland2074: It is for the rod only. I always remove the reel when not in use.

Joe Boirier: At 2:08 I mention that I used 1/2" foam from an old camp mat that I likely purchased from a store that supplies camping stuff such as Canadian Tire, a surplus store, etc. The craft foam that I suggested as an alternative is available at craft stores (of course). As I say in the video, layer up thinner pieces to achieve the desired thickness. Any closed cell foam of about 1/2" (12mm) would work. Stay away from polystyrene (Styrofoam).
