This song has a fun story. Carolina IV was a bus the band was in a tour and the bus almost fell of a cliff in a storm with the band in it, them they made the song like if Carolina IV was a ship that get lost in the way to the new world in the discovery of Brazil.

That was not the tour bus... it was a bus that they have rented once to go to a hill/mountain (don't remember the name... is one of those between SP and MG) to a photo session (that they never used, btw) and that was a raining day and the bus get stucked on the mud road of the climb .. them, when they were pushing it and the bus slided over them... was a near miss

Angra's new albuns/musics are sounding more like the most mainstrem power metal bands. For me their old albuns are all pieces of art. Totally agree with your coment at the end!

Save, save Iemanja, Save Janaína And everything that was done in the water Throw flowers to the sea God Save the Queen And my step in this sphere ... A caboclo of orixás Soon leaves the earth Go against your fate Where the sky meets the sea Find your port And this is how it ends This is the verse in br portuguese, talks about brazilian afro religion!

This different sounding you refer to is because Angra is strongly influenced by regional brazilian music (especially Andre Matos, who has passed away recently). Different scales, melodies, non-conventional instruments... You got the spirit of Angra sounding.

Try another Brazilian band from the same angra era called Dr. Sin. React to 'Emotional Catastrophe' song and you will really get into the Brazilian way of do metal.

You're right on the money: It's unique! This song is a masterpiece. The blend of brazilian music and metal at its finest! I was lucky to see them live touring in mid 90's for this amazing album Holy Land.

The thing about the scales that you mention noticing are tinges of brazilian music that they love using. You can have a very, and I mean *VERY* strong example of this in a song from Kiko's first solo album called "Pau-de-arara" *. It is heavily infused with a type of sound that is very characteristic of the Northeast reagions of Brazil. You should react to it, it is an amazing instrumental, you'd love it. * I'm Brazilian and I could explain what this is with my own words, but the wikipedia article is actually perfect, here's what it means: "Pau de Arara is a designation given in the Northeast Brazil to a flat bed truck adapted for passenger transportation. The truck's bed is equipped with narrow wooden benches and a canvas canopy. The term refers to long metal rails extending lengthwise under the canopy where passengers would hang on to when standing. This form of public transportation is still found in rural areas, but no longer available for interstate travel. In past decades, it was widely used by migrant workers fleeing periodic drought conditions in their home region. In the states of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, their most frequent destination, Pau de Arara also became a derogatory slang term referring to them. There are frequent references to the Pau de Arara in Brazilian literature and popular song, used as a symbol for the plight of the Nordestino (Northeastern) migrant."

This whole album is a masterpiece, if you want to react to more from the same album: Crossing/Nothing to Say (it's 2 songs, Crossing being the album instrumental intro, it's nice to hear the two in order), Make Believe, Silence and Distance.
