Angry Broody Hen

This is my Lavender Pekin, usually quite a placid girl. However when she is broody nobody dares get too close, for fear of being pecked. Without the gloves she would definitely draw blood. I like to remove her from the nest box at least once a day to ensure she is looking after herself properly. When removed (using gloves) she eats, drinks and dust baths.

Our broody hen didn't even peck us. She would just puff up her feathers and make a little sounds. Bought her some fertile eggs online and in 3 weeks she hatched them. She raised her first clutch all the way to adult hood. Unfortunately we can't keep the roosters because of the area we live in, but of the 7 chicks she raised, we got to keep 4 of them.

@@Chlrintruc In East Africa Where I live we like to eat free range chicken. If a visitor came and I don't slaughter one for them, I will be seen as stingy. But after watching all these chicken videos, I feel like one who murders chicken 🙆

Ah... what I lovingly have come to call "Angry Marshmallow Syndrome" because my girls would be all poofy. I'm so grateful they didn't peck us, but they would sit right outside the coop and pout after we'd kick them out.

You can avoid getting picked, and not wearing gloves at all. It is a matter of being fast and outsmart the hen.

Some of them peck when they are broody and get disturbed, some scream, others can be removed from the nest to look after themselves without any issue. Their temperament doesn't matter. Pekins are so cute.

NO! Don’t pet a broody hen. Just leave her alone on some eggs so she can be a mom. Hens don’t like to be peted when broody! They just need to be by themselves and have some peace! 🙏🏻

I’ve never had such an aggressive broody hen!! I’ve only been pecked once and it was just a warning nip, and that was this years broody hen. She’s 2 years old now

I have 2 lavender pekins ones a boy who hatched around 9 weeks ago and a hen who turned 1 years old about 1 month ago, she puffs up like that when she's broody but 2x more puffy

@@wither9382 yes my grandma did actually took the two roosters apart from each other ! A friend of my cousin built each rooster a coop, and also my cousin and grandma took the hens apart and put about five hens in one rooster and four hens to the other rooster as well.

I have a hen that was crazy mean when she decided to brood and set..she pecked me at first..over a couple days, i started petting her head and chest..she quit pecking me..I brought her food and water and now 12 days in, she lets me pet her and hand feed her...shell be a great momma..

It's very funny too watch but too much stress for this poor broody hen. Being broody is really tiring for them, if people could feel how much they are stressed and tired when broody, they wouldn't play like this, even if we all find it hilarious.

You dont need the glove.... There are ways to get the egg's without the use of any glove. First you let the hen pick at your hand, however keep it close enough so it is a warning picking. When the chicken retracts her head, you instantly grab it by the neck and hold the head high. Then you can take the egg's.
