ANGRY MAN SPITS at Me while I was helping GRANDPA with Overgrown PROPERTY
We were contacted by a Grandpa that is nearing the end of his time and he was wondering if we could use our brush mower and clean up the Overgrown property by the road so he could see the wildlife while riding down property on golf cart.
We arrived at the Vacant property and mowed, mulched a lot of the overgrown grass and brush. We ended up getting a Massive Log stuck in the Mulcher and spent over an hour trying to get it out. Before I know it, the sun was going down.
Just as the sun was starting to go down, we had someone pull in with flashing lights and an Angry Man got out cursing at us and asking what we were doing on the property, he mentioned we were screwing up his hunting. He explained that he owned the property which we found out later, maybe wasn't the case. Moments later he decided to spit at me while threatening to call the cops.

To cover yourself always film getting permission, record the phone conversation, or get something in writing. You could have been hired by a neighbor who was bothered by all the overgrowth. We live in dangerous times so always protect yourself. Glad your son wasn't present.

The person who owns the property should also be on hand as well, they don't need to stand there and watch, but they should at least a phone call away if a dispute breaks out.

Spitting is not a felony. In most states it will range from a Simple Assault to a Class A Misdemeanor. Still, it is a crime, and the guy should be made to answer for what he did.

The biggest indicator to me that something was up with that guy was the fact that he got back in his truck, drove away and left you there. If it was my property and I had intruders, I would stay there and be on the phone with 911 until the cops got there. We've had intruding trespassers like that hunting guy on our farm before and they act like they own the place sometimes. I'm so sorry you had to deal with that. Maybe you need to call the cops on him and report him for assault.

You can if you're a certain number of feet FROM the edge of the road. But you absolutely can't hunt from ON the road, either standing or in a vehicle. Big fine and possibly jail, depending on the state's hunting laws.

In Australia spitting or biting (by law) is a very, very serious crime.

Yes, technically that is an assault in traditional English law that was incorporated into the laws of the United States, but it depends how the state's statute defines assault. Also, unless that man can be identified by license plate number or facial recognition, for instance, there won't be any charges made against a man who can't be found.

Eric, when someone contacts you to do work on their property, get online to the County Auditor to verify who owns the property. That will help you when you speak to the person asking for assistance. Also, carry protection with you. Glad you had your camera rolling! Stay safe friend!

A property owner wouldn't have just driven off like that. He would have insisted on figuring out the situation, and then seen you off the property before he left himself. The fact that he left so abruptly after making threats is a solid hint that he wasn't telling the truth himself.

I suspected he didn't own the property when he didn't offer to show any proof of that. The police never came apparently. And I guess I don't understand how a strip of land next to the road is a hunting area... Could someone please explain that to me ??? I really don't understand. Real Estate Law 101...the name on the "deed" that is filed with the county is the "actual" owner of the property. Ok listen just a guy that think's it's his land.! It's grandpa's land and what grandpa wants done grandpa get's.! As far as that guy is concerned we can Fix his boat real fast by putting up no Hunting Sines all over the property for Grandpa.!

Or call DNR and ask about his hunting so close to the road.. since eric messed up his hunting .. (hello McFly it’ll grow back I’m sure.. ),it’s got all next summer too..
