I have a pet Mantis. One thing he did that I don't think I've ever seen before. He caught one cricket with one arm and began devouring it. In mid meal he caught another nearby cricket with his other arm, so he had two captured crickets, one in each arm. Then he continued to eat the first one, and when done ate the second one. Awesome.

@@magalover2024 Totally harmless. Pretty short lifespans though. 6 months to 2 years depending on size. The ones I had were relatively large and lived 8 months. The next 2 I had, I let go after 6 months while still alive.

If you look really closely you can see the mad scientist pulling a tiny string and uses the weight of the box to open the lid, otherwise the flies would have broken free well before they are placed in the glass box

I can't imagine the horror of being eaten alive especially the ones that get eaten gut first and writhe awhile before it finally eats an organ that when removed shuts down the body. Not all of the flies in the video were eaten head first and some were struggling as it licked and bit into them.

Insects don't "feel" much. Most are like wound up toys marching around, sometimes bumping into things, or going up the wrong path, or recklessly going the "wrong" way when threatened. They may crawl up and all over you for no reason at all. As you saw here, some flies just walked right up to and almost on the mantis. The praying mantis is more of a "thinking" insect, unlike the flies.
