What Hollywood doesn’t realize is that the humans in a Godzilla film are basically the subtitles for the monsters

That is my major complaint is the human crap. Yet major critics are complaining about not enough human crap. I just wanted godzilla.

It saddens me that this movie is getting so much hate... I've watched damn near every Godzilla movie out there and I LOVED THIS ONE! All of the cool easter eggs and nods to the past movies, the amazing soundtrack, incredible visuals, beautiful but terrifying monsters. I can't get enough of this movie to be honest! You could tell it was made by a true Godzilla fan that dumped his heart and soul into it. All I can say is I've already pre-ordered the blu ray and I will definitely see this in theaters at least one more time!

You do know Joe that in the 2014 Godzilla the final fight (which was 1 hour and 40 minutes in. Not 1 hour and 10 minutes in) was constantly being interrupted by the soldiers. Even THAT FIGHT had a bunch of cutaways. It wasn't as wholesome as you remember it.

Let me know when they make a hour and fifty minutes movie with an hour forty minutes of just Godzilla vs other monsters

Personally -and I said this to people before-, whoever directed the first Pacific Rim, give the next and the rest of the Godzilla movies to that director! Tell him to direct it the way he directed the first Pacific Rim. When I saw Pacific Rim for the first time, I was never so satisfied by how much awesome fight scenes there were before that movie. The choreography, the camera shots, the pacing, sequencing, almost the entire cinematography was excellent. 👌🏼 GIVE IT TO HIM.

On the contrary, the human characters were improved from the last film; sure, none of them are Bryan Cranston, but they’re still miles above Aaron Taylor-Johnson or (to a slightly lesser extent) Elizabeth Olsen (actors I like, but were BAD in that film). And the connection between the humans and monsters was better... they should still focus more on the monsters, though!

Whenever the camera started panning away from the monsters, towards the human characters, I was like, "No, go back!"

You can come back here in a year when Kong and Godzilla team up instead of fighting. I'll take the $40.

I think Angry Joe is just a little too angry with this film! They have to show us how the humans are reaching to the monsters, it makes it more real! Lesson, I love monster battles too but the humans help us to relate to the movie better! Seeing the people we want to see live/die helps to immerse us in to the story! The original 1956 Godzilla didn't show Godzilla that much ether, but it was hugely successful! On the other hand, if the movie had too many fight scenes it would get to monotonous! Plus that had to introduce the monsters who would be fighting Godzilla! I think they struck a fare balance! But that's just my opinion!

I absolutely loved this movie. I loved how Mothra looked and I loved the final battle.

I did like these human characters more than last time, but yeah I still didn’t like all the cutaways to them

Unfortunately....they will ALWAYS CUT AWAY...from the action...the trick is to balance the 2...Brad did a amazing job with the action n the sheer volume...as far as the human interaction...it needed work...the character needed to be fleshed out more...still I like this one better than 2014...let’s be real the characters in 2014 weren’t any better than this one...still I enjoyed this one much better...more fighting...def a plus...

Honestly the cut away from human to monster scenes was awesome it gave it more of a grander scale. It made me feel like I was there watching them fight above my head. It made it better. The plot decisions was stupid at times but the fights were amazing. Plus the human play a huge role on Godzilla victory so their being there is important. Especially then where Ghedora is about to lift Godzilla again.

LOVED IT as a 4 decade Godzilla fan and we saw it in 4DX 3D: format was perfect! The final battle was sick AF. Only disappointed in your review; that’s about it.

They cut to human characters due to budget. They should've scaled down the movie to allow for more kaiju action then.

The cut aways aren't nearly as bad as you make them. In the first film the cut aways skip the monster fights just as they start. In the new film the camera goes back and forth between the monsters fighting and then the humans trying to get away form them, but it conveys just how massive the creatures are since you still see them nearby. If anything I feel like it was constant monsters throughout most of the film, since after we get one monster clash there is a few minutes of plot development before yet another Monster pops up.

I loved the movie. I would blank out if the fight scenes were constant and the movie was human less. Kinda like the destruction in Man of Steel. I think constant action becomes numbing. Also, the worst thing to happen to Angry Joe is him learning the word "tropes."

Movie was awesome, cutaways really didn't break it for me because in between cutaways there was just so much action.

There were definitely some issues with the story and some characters, but overall I enjoyed it for what is was. My biggest issue is we need more day time fight scenes.

I kept thinking "that doesn't make sense" but then again I realized it's a monster movie edit: I meant stuff like the radiation. If it was that fatal the guy would probably start puking within a few minutes. Seeing how big the distance was he traveled and all, not to mention all the places that would be highly irradiated afterwards.

Imagine buying a UFC pay-per-view and they decide cut to behind the scenes guys watching on tv screens during the main card.

You make some good points that I didn’t notice in the film when I watched it. Cutting to the humans doesn’t happen as much as you said and you get a good chunk of monster battles. Even when they cut away they are talking about Godzilla and setting up the next monster scene. I really enjoyed the film and thought it was badass and so enjoyable. Each of the Monsterverse Films are getting better and better. Godzilla 2014 was fine but had issues, Kong: Skull Island is Fun and action packed and an amazing introduction to Kong, and Godzilla: King of the Monsters finally gets Godzilla right with badass action and nice emotional moments from the characters. Godzilla 2014 (5/10) Kong: Skull Island (7/10) Godzilla: King of the Monsters (8/10)

Joe claims to be a big fan but the spoiler discussion part says other wise. :/ I really enjoyed the movie and it made my nephew join the Godzilla fandom. This was his first Godzilla movie too. I think Joe, you have a niche that you like about Godzilla. Your not wrong in liking it Godzilla fights have always been fun to watch but with out context to the why or how it's just that a kaiju fight. The tension is humanity is on the line with Godzilla being the line in the sand.

I agree with you Joe. Although I was entertained, kind of liked the titan plot, loved the score, but needed to stop the cutaways. But I believe its a huge improvement from the 2014 film. Edit: Can we talk about the music tho?

As a fan of Godzilla from the age of 6 so 22yrs of loving this franchise I got to say I really enjoyed this film. Sure wasn't perfect but for what it was I loved it. Feel like Joe might not be as informed of a fan or one that just likes Godzilla but hasn't seen all the Toho films and doesn't have enough knowledge of the franchise. I mean he didn't know why the hell they were calling Ghidorah Monster Zero which I mean wow that was the American title for the second film Ghidorah ever appeared in so that should be easy to understand why. Plus they had yet to discover his name. Sure I found it annoying that in the final fight they would cut away to the family looking for the daughter. Yet everything else I really loved. Designs of the monsters all great. The lore they spoke about all the easter eggs how a lot of the human scenes were just them breaking down the monsters which I really enjoyed as it was like watching a discovery channel show all about Godzilla. Including things they could have ignored like Ghidorah actually being from space. Having the Mothra Twins sure they weren't tiny fairies but that would be to out of place so just having Twins was great. Then things they added themselves like Ghidorah being able to grow back his own heads. And I loved how the middle head was the leader and always had to get the other two to fall in line biting them and shit. The music was fucking amazing they actually used the original themes for all of them while making them more modern but in a great way. So all in all I give it an 8/10. Thing I hate is that the critic average score for this film is like a 30 to 40% range. Reading a lot of them you can clearly see none of them were fans of Godzilla and were not in any way reviewing this film in terms of what genre it was. Instead they ignored the fact that this is a big dumb monster movie. And instead reviewed it like it should be held to the same accountability that Oscar movies are. Which is something I hate so much. Like so many of the reviews bitched about how to much of the film was focused on the monsters and that the plot wasn't this amazing Oscar worthy story and that the characters weren't amazingly fleshed out. None of these critics have ever seen a single Godzilla film and there for weren't reviewing it in terms of how it grades for this franchise and genre. Which I could never understand. It would be like getting someone to review a wrestling event that has never watched wrestling doesn't understand it and just always had a biased towards it for being dumb in their eyes.

Just saw the film myself, gotta say I'm very disappointed by your review, there is a lot of Godzilla and action in the film, and the story with the humans was actually pretty compelling an interesting for a big budget film like this. Feel like you just went in ONLY wanting monster fights and just got annoyed any time they cut away from and you didnt actually pay attention to anything else. Very unprofessional review

I dont understand the criticism with this movie. Of course the human characters are only there to explain the monsters, i mean what else? the monsters can't do it for sure. Then the criticism towards millie bobby brown playing daughter in distress, i mean what else would she do against 550 ft tall monsters? Stand up and scream like jon snow? Not to hate on anyone who disliked the movie or had some criticism but as a godzilla movie, this was the absolute perfect one

I must say that this is the one of the BEST Godzilla movies I have seen, and I originally had low expectations for this film. I never thought it was going to be that GOOD.
