I largely considered myself a fake artist, I'd start many drawings and never finish A SINGLE ONE. When I found your "How fast should you paint video", I was INSTANTLY inspired! Now I constantly want to create the world in my brain, how I see the world. I thank you so very much for sharing all of your pieces with us. I can't thank you enough

I know exactly what you mean by being afraid of ruining a beautiful sketchbook. Thank you for sharing. 👍

Instead of being lured by the fancy sketchbooks maybe keeping an eye out for extremely cheap ones could be a good start. Extra points if the store’s discount sticker is still attached to the cover 😅

@@angrymikko Haha yes, I've thought about that too. 😂But I don't think it's because of the price or the cover. At least for me. There's something about new, untouched paper itself. All of the fears you mentioned apply to me. And there are even more. Maybe your suggestion to fill the first page as quickly as possible will work. I'll try that. Or maybe I should just start with the last page.^^

I used to be afraid of sketchbooks too, but then I started to use them for scrapbooking and journalling, alongside my art. It really helps with the trepidation, as I know even if my art in it sucks, the memories&decor make up for it. Plus "bad" art is the best way to learn :3

I love having lots of sketchbooks and jumping between them as they can have different paper and each paper works differently. Also I make hand made sketchbooks out of my loose papers for even more custom sketchbooks!

Regardless of the topic that's always how I wanted this channel to be like. I hope these don't prevent anyone from painting or drawing and instead serve as company and assistance while we work towards our creative goals. 🐻

I like to use sketch books to draw mess up adding ugly colors etc. Every mistake I made or ideas plus what I can improve on. So when u remember something you did go back as notes and think yup that's right. Me that's because my brain works different and sketch books help

I was hoping to see a traditional painting from you. I never really feel fear from my sketchbook but I do have several for different reasons. One for an idea sketch, one for colors, and another for graphite drawings.

That’s a lot of sketchbooks! I sometimes have trouble just deciding which paints or pens to pack with me so having just one makes the carry weight much easier. (I often can’t decide on materials beforehand and frequently carry all my pens and paints at once [+ipad {+filming gear}])

I share in your sketchbook purchasing addictions.. I have piles of them, and often have ideas of what I want to do with them, but it never goes how I plan haha. Also always have the pocket size moleskine sketchbook on me, constantly drawing in it.

Pocket size gets the most use for me too. Somehow it feels way more casual than the fancy ones. Bear on the cover helps too 🐻

Great advice! Completely off topic, but I'm curious about your experience with the Nicker Poster Colour paints. I attempted to swatch mine this past weekend and half poured out of the tube as if just colored water. Despite that I tried to paint with them anyway, but they dried with an incredibly wet sheen and were sticky to the touch, as well as being streaky (even w/ a dry brush). I ended up setting them aside and going back to my Holbeins.
@angrymikko
@angrymikko 3 күн бұрын
They’re not for everyone. The water does get separated after some time in the tube but that’s why I don’t like using my glass jar versions anymore. They also have a maximum amount of layers before the sticky effect kicks in. Hard papers have less absorbing surface which can make that limit come much earlier. Honestly if you like using any other gouache then go for it. Nicker ones are extremely expensive anyway.

Hi! Thank you for the message, I was actually thinking about this yesterday, looking at my current sketchbook, all teared apart from duct tape. "I ruined it.", but then I thought: who cares! It's OK, I'm exercising, let's ruin it, there will be so many more! + yes, I should buy something a lil more good quality wise ahah About that, what are the materials are you using here? (brush, sketchbook?the gouache I see it's nicker, but it's a lil too expensive for my Lil pockets ahah do you recommend something slightly cheaper? Thank you in advance! ✨)
@angrymikko
@angrymikko 3 күн бұрын
Nicker poster colours are expensive but they're not made out of magic. Good quality gouache set will get you same results. Nicker dries just a bit faster and it can be a lot harder to re-activate after it's dry so that adds up even more to its cost. Also good attitude about the torn page. You bought the book to use it! It's not sacred nor irreplaceable. 🐻

I destroy my sketchbooks after they are finished. I use them to work out ideas and knowing that they are temporary lets me paint freely and without worry of messing up. I am supposed to mess up in the sketchbook and not on the canvas. I go through 1 a month or so.
@angrymikko
@angrymikko 3 күн бұрын
Having a temporary mindset definitely helps with planning my paintings too. Often instead of sketchbooks I use post-it notes or whatever loose scraps of paper there might be nearby.

These are poster colours from Nicker. They’re pretty much identical to gouache except they dry a bit faster.
