Amazing fighter that learned early on the power of the name "Bruce Lee."

all the naysayers out there that says Bruce lee was fake, better watch this, Joe lewis himself demonstrating clossing down distance techniques shown to him by Bruce, and he says when bruce went into that zen state he could never hit him even joking probably even a bullet couldnt he was so fast. words straight from the legend Joe lewis

Those who talk crap about anything non MMA are just some weenies who have never had any combat training or anything combative in their whole life so I wouldn't pay them any mind. The ones who have had training and talk crap are those who don't have an open mind and are too dumb to realize the techniques they're learning come from somewhere so yeah, they're not worth it either.

I enjoyed his seminar but I think I would have enjoyed it better if I would have worn either sweat pants or a Gi. I wore my baggy Kung Fu pants, a sash and T-shirt with my kung Fu schools logo and Joe apparently HATED Kung Fu, so therefore I got a vibe from him that I was his enemy. It started the minute I walked in and he started making fun of my "Pajamas" I was a huge fan of him, and it was going to ne the first time in my life I met my hero. I was wracking my brain trying to find a way to initiate a conversation with him, but he started with the negative comments. I of course being from NJ decided to give as good as I got and commented that his uniform probably cost much more than mine. Even when I went to have his picture taken with me, buy his T shirt and videos, I just got the message that anyone who liked and enjoyed Kung Fu was never ever going to be accepted by Joe Lewis. I'm glad I can download and study his material now on you tube, because I never bothered with another seminar. You can't learn from someone who thinks you belong to a category of people he will never accept. I think it had a lot to do with him always being perceived as a bit less important than Bruce Lee.

First and foremost, have some self respect. F**k him and his dead @$$! He learned from a kung fu teacher and yes, Bruce Lee didn't believe in styles but JKD was basically an American Kung Fu style uniting every other nation's martial art but still a kung Fu style and Kung Fu is really good. I personally have been into San Soo since 2002 and I always check out other stuff regardless of where it comes from. Now I'll tell you a story about my boxing trainer. He didn't seem to like martial arts or anything non boxing and we were warming up and I would move around and then jog backwards to warm up and work out my ankles because it works different muscles than going forward and he said something that I was moonwalking and I laughed it off but he later mentioned it when he was teaching the class something and it pissed me off because I had respect for him and I was going to challenge him in front of everyone but I wasn't going to box since he was a better boxer and former professional who made some descent money but I calmed myself down and just left it alone but I still think about it because time and time he does exercises that are not organized well and I mentioned it and he said something stupid like I do this because it's going to be chaos and a punch is going to hurt more and I mentioned well so, would you rather get hit the face with a 50lb weight or someone's punch because according to his logic, the heavy truck tires we were throwing around recklessly, wasn't going to be nothing compared to a punch and I say bullshit because those tires are meant to go four wheeling on mountains and if it went over a person's head, it would squish the head like a melon so a flying truck tire that's heavy and still has the tracks on them and flying threw the air with gravity on its side isn't going to be less than a person's punch because if the chaos is too much distraction and someone just carelessly throws one in the air and a person gets hit in the head, it could kill that person by snapping their neck or breaking some bones or anything the mind could come up with.

Sorry you had your deal with that. It’s nice to see him acknowledge Bruce’s teachings. It was Bruce that taught him and not the other way around after all. Bruce was better.

None of us were there so we can't confirm nor deny your claim, he passed away 20+ years ago, it is rare that a person finds it necessary to admonish those who have left us. Most of us tend to try to remember the good in a person. I can see from Joe's instructional videos, that he gave his heart and sole to do the best he could to make us all really get every detail of what he is/was teaching, with frequent accolades to Bruce Lee. Joe thought very little of Bruce when they first met, Joe was a big star, but even he was eventually able to look past his first impressions and learn to hold Bruce in very high regard. Kung fu, then and today is often looked at as an embarrassment to combative martial arts, in many martial arts circles. Joe's bias was not unique, and not worthy of admonishment 20 years following his death. Bruce is the biggest figure in martial arts history, but I've never met anyone that actually considered Bruce better than Joe, or Joe better than Bruce, their legacies speak for themselves.

C. Anderson does not know his butt from third base. He has quite a bit of company. In this video, Joe weighed 178 to 185 soaking wet. His fighting weight was usually 195 to 208. Joe Lewis was and maybe ever shall be one of the fastest, hardest hitting heavyweight competitive karate fighters we have had come down here to Texas. There are disciplines that believe in competition. There are disciplines who do not. As I understand it, Mr. Lee was in the second group. I have never seen or met him. I know nothing about it. It has been my joy and privilege to have watched so many great competitors over the years, I also hold rank on my own. June 20, 1970, Victor Moore and Jim Harrison (middleweights) and Joe Lewis and Ed Daniel ( heavyweights) set the stage for full contact karate in the US. Ed Daniel is my Dad.

So many naive martial artist out there. Not realizing while fun and valuable to get a chance to learn from a legend (or when he was still with us) was invaluable...most of us are not at a high enough level of ability (e.g. to turn pro, to become the next "JL"..). Those that took his seminars will practice the moves a few times after JL leaves their cities. Then go back to their old ways and their day jobs. :) Mean while dojo that hosted the seminar has made money..maybe got more students and joe' with a little more income. Not sure how much it costed the dojo's to have JL appear. :) Joe was probably LOL in his head...."HAA!! These guys have no hope!! What the hell...something to do...income!!". :)

he's skipping fast over the material. every small section you could spend months in all kinds of variations if you put your mind to it. a lot of the stuff you can use in any situation. before you do any of this stuff you need to have your ballance and bodymechanic and understanding how to move from A to B down to the T or this stuff won't work. He basically gave you lifetime material to work on on a silver plate.
