The speculation of the lore is that The Animal secretly detests his creator, Pepperami, because he was crafted from the ground up remains of several dead pigs and his creator chose to give his horrid creation not just life, but also sentience. Pepperami is clearly a sadistic mad scientist who not only aims to profit by cloning The Animal and selling them as food(?) but also relishes in the slow existential pain Animal suffers as he slowly realizes the purpose of his very creation. It's all in the game if you read the item descriptions, though some items only appear if you gain enough insight.

As someone from Northern Ireland that grey up eating pepperamis (I actually thought that was what you called pepperoni since it was similar) it is sad to see that we are the only people that have it (except the Germans) Pepperami was some good shit, but despite having hundreds the ought my life, I never knew the pepperami guy was called animal or here was a game...
