Really loving where this album seems to be going. It’s got a late night kind of quiet jam-session vibe to it. It’s pretty straightforward compared to the rest of their stuff, but I just trust it! Haven’t been this excited for an album release since modern Vampires of the City!!!!

Dude, you had to go and drop an album name of that caliber! That is a classic album but I feel that Vampire Weekend's latest album Father of The Bride is a closer comparison. Back in the early two thousands, when I was trying to come to grips with the end of good emo and indie as we all knew it, I noticed five bands/artists that I would forever lump into a kind of god tier post emo neo folk category. Although a few of these bands early records didn't sound outright like folk at all, I feel that that type of foundation still has always been there in their respective sounds. These five bands, which I associate as some of the only truly original and progressive sounds since the decline of good music are the Fleet Foxes, Joanna Newsom, Beirut, Vampire Weekend and Animal Collective. I am sure I will have more than a few suggestions to be added to this list, but I digress. It seems that these bands ended up following on their respective cult successes by evolving as the years passed and I as well as they grew older. With maturity comes changes in style, and both Vampire Weekend and now Animal Collective have embraced their neo folk roots by returning to an organic sound. The Fleet Foxes have also to an extent. As for Beirut and Joanna Newsom, it could be said that some a purity of structure has been seen more in their albums also. Those are my thoughts.
@guyvandermire4146
@guyvandermire4146 2 жыл бұрын
@@goofeegoober_ Would you mind elaborating on your thoughts about the album? Is it that you feel they have lost too much of their experimental edge or even dare I say it sold out a bit? Or is it just more of you not feeling this evolved sound? I particularly have always enjoyed Animal Collective's pop side and hated their experimental ramblings. I have always been like this with music too. Take for example how I will admit to skipping to the next track sometimes when listening to a classic Modest Mouse album like The Lonesome Crowded West when the best part of the song Trailer Trash has already passed and the long drawn out ending is droning on like a cowboy walking into the sunset. I realize that that is the best part of the song but I do it anyway sometimes. It has always been the part of me that is an impatient listener that did not like the more experimental albums by Animal Collective. I will admit that I am one of those people who really got into them when Merriweather Post Pavillion was released.

@@soulbend A majority, but not all. Songs like Uncle Donut, Summertime Clothes, Bagels in Kiev, and Floridada instantly hooked me. So you're indifferent to the majority of the song that follows the conventions of songwriting, but you really like the formless, unstructured soundscape at the end? It's just weird to me. It is kind of astounding to me that these guys can put out a song and a month later it has just a fraction of the views and general hype than the MPP days. I really like this new stuff a lot, but it is strange to see pop culture kind of just turn away from them. I for one am stoked for Time Skiffs and its probably a mixed blessing that there isn't more commercialization of this project honestly. Just interesting.

To me, this album feels like exactly what I have needed from this band for so long and have not gotten. I feel immense relief and a. sense of being asuaged art ingestion wise by this being the case. To me it feels like...... animal collective but toned down treble and energy wise to a finely balanced and organic sound. It is reminiscent of thw direction both vampire weekend and the fleet foxes went in their recent releases, which seems to be the trend. Nevertheless. it is done correctly and maintains the soul of the band. It is short though, so it kind of feels somewhere in between an ep and lp. I like to thin think that the following album could expand upon the sound and be even better, but that kind of greedy thinking kind of defeats the message of the music, so I'll stop. also, it kind of reminds me of the song high and dry by radiohead. and just radiohead in general. and tortoise too. had an old but new feeling at the same time. which i guess means that it is absolutely as good as it can be. honestly, I'm hot and cold with animal collective. I always have been. I absolutely adore their highpoint records, from strawberry jam to centipede hz, and I also slowly got into sung tongs and some of the solo albums, but the other albums have always grated on my ears and just have seemed like total experimental rubbish. so after not being able to enjoy any of their songs aside from floridada and golden gal, which totally seemed out of place on painting with, since the releaze of centipede hz, I am more than relieved to be getting swept up in this album's energy. sure. it ain't Merriweather post Pavillion, but what could be? it is better than that album in certain ways though, and that is amazing. it's kind of like comparing kid a to ok computer. different but equally amazing. (even though that isn't a parallel comparison, but u get the idea.)
