I was wearing a really bright shirt today in my yard. I thought I saw a hummingbird until it decided to land on me and reveal it was a moth instead. I was super freaked out at first but after it left I was interested in what it was. So I looked it up and found this amazing video! Thanks for helping me learn something today.

@@AnimalFactFiles I first found a Clearwing dead on the road when I was a kid. Even though it was dead, We were intrigued . When I lost my Dad, I was invited on a trip to Branson. I was sitting outdoors listening to music when this rather large White lined Sphinx moth hoovered close by me after the pink Impatiens. The pink on it was so fascinating. I'll never forget it, it was a highlight of the trip. 5 people shouted " Look ! A hummingbird !!!". They would not hear me . One lady was angry I insulted it by calling it a moth. LoL !. When people use pesticides on everything, they target insects they don't even understand. Thanks for a good show.

Be careful, feeding a lizard wild bugs could hurt your lizard. People who chemically treat their lawns, are why. The infected bugs will try to find a safe place. My Leopard gecko almost died from eating the bugs from my lawn. Just to be clear, my lawn is "mostly" organic

My husband and I saw one yesterday for the first time ever in Cuenca, Spain! I had no idea there are no hummingbirds in Europe since we have quite a few in the US and in Brazil. I was fully convinced it was the smallest hummingbird ever but I was truly confused. A lavender bush full of beautiful honey bees and this beauty shows up and simply gave us a nice nature lesson!! 🦋

Every day just about at dawn and dusk when its twilight roughly, there is a bug or a bird that flys up by my porch and harasses the hell out of me. It sounds like a hummingbird but it moves to fast to see. All I know it makes me jump out my chair when it buzzes around my head and then it disappears. It does this 3-5 times before it leaves me alone. Thanks to this video I think I know that it's a hummingbird moth creature.

At 5:30 am this morning I came out to my back yard as I do every morning to enjoy my cup of coffee. I enjoyed not just 1 but 4 hummingbird moths at around 1-1/2 inches They were smaller in size as the night before there were 2 larger hummingbird moths at around 2-1/2 inches on my bush. But not only was I able to enjoy the 3 smaller moths as one flew off a green hummingbird showed up to also feed from the flowers on my bush. The hummingbird moths here at my house show up at dusk & feed off these bushes all night & leave at dawn. There’s at least 1 to 2 here every night. I must of gotten very lucky as I’ve never seen more than 2 at the same time & this morning there were 4 plus the hummingbird also showed up. What a great way to start my day. I did also get the hummingbird with 2 of the hummingbird moths in a video I took.

This video is misleading, hummingbird hawk moths belong to a family of moths called hawk moths (also sphinx moths in America), it is a single species. Horn worms is a general American name used to describe hawk moth caterpillars, however the commercial horn worms you buy to feed your pets are definitely NOT hummingbird hawk moths. Goliath worms are one of the most common caterpillars you can buy and they are the tobacco hawk moth (Manduca sexta).

I saw one yesterday for the first time, I believe ▬ and I am over 60! I quickly got my camera and videoed it for a few moments and sent it out to an email to friends to see what it was. Some of them knew it was a hummingbird moth and that led me here. That curled proboscis threw me for a loop on whether it was a bird, or an insect. I had seen the catepillar before. Yes, after it sipped the nectar, it buzzed around me head a few times and then another one appeared and they flew off together. Thank you for his post! Now I know.

At a sleep away camp that I used to go to I had a traumatic experience where I was playing with the moths and letting them sit on my hand and I noticed that one had got stuck. I was confused and thought it was stuck between two flower stems. I got closer to try to set it free and it was a pray mantis! It was eating it’s face off! I screamed and stumbled back. That was a harsh reminder of the circle of life... Also, I have Mottephobia. I’m terrified of regular moths. Where I live there’s a moth infestation l. I’m on always on edge at night. But I remember these moths and how I used to play with them. They make me a little less scared. Thanks for both helping me and traumatizing me. 🤣

They still do. About 30 years ago when I lived in Pakistan, we had them visit our Pomegranate flowers. I saw them only a couple times. And it would come and go so fast I hardly could make what it was. It was fascinating, iridescent and dark with colors on it. The wings flapped so fast it could hardly be seen. Never knew what it was until I learned about hummingbirds and then I knew it must have been a hummingbird. That's why I can't believe when it is said that hummingbirds are not found outside of Americas. I looked up hummingbird hawk and sunbird which showed up in my search on the topic but they definitely don't ring true to what I saw. I think it most like it most likely was a bee hummingbird sine they were teeny and disappeared so fast.

Hummingbird Hawkmoth - a species of moth. In the UK I have been wondering whether they are getting more 'common' and widespread, perhaps because of global warming and shifts in range, or whether it is via publicity, greater awareness and recorder effort that they seem to have increased in number. 🤔

We saw one in my classroom and my classmates tried to kill it 💀 (ofc i didnt let them) My teacher thought it was a bee hummingbird, but i knew it wasnt a bird. I couldnt see it upclose so i searched on google but couldnt find it. After some while we saw it again with my bestie in the school yard!! I looked it up and found this beautiful moth!! (I love moths :D)

I live in the Karoo in South Africa. There are hummingbird moths on my lavender plants. The moths appear to be more orange here than in your video. Tried for a long time to photograph them but they are much too fast!!! Thanks for the interesting video.
