@@youlikemyhand9528 I am definitely self aware enough to realise it makes me seem like a douche but it's not like I'm punching down. The meme community is one of the largest and most beloved groups on the internet. Don't get me wrong, I'm not doing it just to be against the grain. I genuinely believe most of them are at least completely overrated.

I remember, as a child, people roaming all over the beach and burrows, patting and picking them up, disturbing them all the time. The numbers plummeted. We could have wiped them out. The best thing that ever happened was making it a controlled tourist attraction at a sanctuary. Eternal gratitude to the wise people that made it possible.

It always makes me happy to hear when humans are taking steps to preserve the livelihoods of vulnerable animals. Little penguins sound like the exact type of animal that could be eradicated by an invasive species--they're so small and they have basically no actual defenses outside of camouflage. So props to the conservationists who have done the hard work to keep predators away and allow these beautiful little borbs to live and breed in peace. ☮

In NZ everyone call the penguins 'little blue penguins' because of their coat. Even zoo's call them little blue penguins.

Yeah, whenever people talk about how „endangered“ wolves supposedly are, they’re always talking about the non-endangered grey variant. Even shows like Tokyo Mew Mew that are meant to promote endangered species had the wolf character be a grey wolf rather than a red wolf. It’s really starting to piss me off. Wolfaboos, get your priorities straight and support a species that’s actually on the brink of extinction instead of just being like „owo wolves are so beautiful and mysterious and they used to be in our forests but not anymore because man bad uwu“.

tino deryanto I really Hope insect colonies are included in the calculation. But even if two thirds are insects, one billion birds, mammals and reptiles dying from fire is an extremely high number. The damage to the local ecosystem is catastrophic.

@@azuroslazuli6948 there were only 33 human deaths due to fire and another 400 or so from smoke, still not great but considering the size of the fires that's actually pretty surprising. The West coast of America had a smaller series of fires during the same time, a terrible healthcare system, and poor disaster relief and planning in general and we had the same number of fire deaths and no real published numbers for deaths due to smoke (the US has a long history of just not tabulating cause of death or misattributing it for political reasons). If Australia was able to deal with most of the continent being on fire for a longer period of time they must doing something right.

I've actually been there and saw the Fairy Penguins. The most exciting part is when they get more far away from the water and into this fenced area, where you can get a closer look. They were my first time I've seen a Penguin irl and it was beautiful.

I’ve seen the little penguins at the sanctuary. They’re so cute in real life! I’ve also gotten a little penguin thingy(it floats onto of the oil), and I’ve decided to give it to my friend :)

I love that artist illustrations give more insight into the movement and qualities of animals and plants than a photo can. Illustrated Zoology books books still give a better impression of wildlife than photographic ones. I Hope that the value of such artists is never forgotten.

Little know historical fact, the Australian army lost a several battles again the little penguins in the 1954 great little penguins war. Us Australians don't mention it much as you know it's even more embarrassing then when we lost the war against the mighty Emus. :(

I'm so excited that you came down to where I live to make some videos. We have little penguins here too, foxes were a problem for years but now they have Maremma dogs guarding the penguin colony and they're thriving.

I went on a holiday to phillip island in 2014 and had the wirst experience ever. The night before i was going to help out my marine biologist cousin with the penguin tour, a massive storm hit. We woke up to find over 30 dead penguins just scattered everywhere :(
