I did that for an NPC that the whole party decided they hated -Be me, the DM, -look at character sheets -sigh -be my players -The party makes an all fighter lineup, no healing -they spend all their gold on weapons, against the dm's suggestions -be me again -make a changeling alchemist -she can make potions -she can keep the party alive, when they run wildly into battle -apparently the voice I chose is annoying -watch as the party blatantly attempts to get her killed -watch as they free and ancient, trapped demon -the party leaves the changeling for dead -no attempt was made (to heal her) -the demon possesses the changeling -now the big bad has that same voice!

@@Hagosha okay I missremembered it's half level plus charisma but they also have the 10 extra spells from subclass that they allways have prepared, so at lvl 20 they got 25 spells, 15 of wich they can prepare from their spell list so yea, rangers got shafted with their 11 spells and 2 subclasses that get to have 5 extra but no other subclasses that do haha

@CogentPhilosopher all you really need to do is summon a Magcargo in your enemy's general area and wait for ambient fire damage to solve the problem. a 55kg intelligent mass able to sustain a consistent surface temperature of 18000 farenheit indefinitely vs one beardy boi. If not, that's what fireblast (ie pokemon fireball) and flame charge (ie Let me get close to you and on explosive fire) are for.

Our wizard cast Sending to update a woman on the fate of one of her companions. Ended up getting into such a heated argument with her he was upcasting it at *level 5* after having used all of his level 3 and 4 spell slots. Then he refused to move and napped for a day.

It's okay, we get nifty magic tricks we can perform usually only once a day, Eldritch Invocations. Wai- Oh, we do have this really innefficient way of regaining spell slots- oh, most other casters can do that on a short rest? And we get less slots and spells to cast than anyone?

My team once used it to carefully coordinate between each other while in separate rooms in a police investigation over a stolen ship one port over. It kept the story straight and we got out of there without murdering anyone. That's how my cleric justified it at least.

Eh sorta. It would work in the same way as someone talking to their dog. He doesn't understand the word "walkies" but over time he's learnt the meaning of the word that sounds that way (and possibly grabbing of leash) is he gets to go for a walk. Then the response would be the incomprehensible "bark, bark" where again the owner might recognise the dog's tone, but not what he's actually saying.

While it does make the message understandable to the animal, it doesnt guarantee that the animal could follow up using its ability Like, "stalk the person with X" They could get distracted, following a different person altogether, forget it, or even sending back an idiot reply like "Wow master can speak to me now! Ruffday love master so much! Ruffday likes it when master rubs ruffday belly! Ruffday sad master isnt here---"

Evocation isn’t the only way. There’s also conjuration. This school includes a spell that can recreate any evocation spell while technically being conjuration. Or transmute him into a rot grub with true polymorph.

I should point out that spellbooks have vellum pages. Vellum is basically what would happen if leather and paper had a baby. That means that it'll survive getting wet, or being in a fire.

Step 1: Keep a backup spellbook Step 2: Keep said spellbook in a pocket dimension only yu can access via a portal spell Step 3: Make said spell one of your regular spell slots. You are now JoCa(n)t proofed.

This is your own fault, Zee. The spell specifies that the target needs an Int score of at least 1, and I believe -1000000 is lower than 1.
