Small detail: it's not a zoetrope, zoetrope it's a whole different thing. That is a praxinoscope. The difference between them is: zoetrope has slots to see, the praxinoscope has the mirror in the middle.

Fun fact: A Zoetrope was a similarly old animation device that you would view through slits in the drum. A Praxinoscope was invented after the Zoetrope and used a series of mirrors to view the animation, which made the image clearer than the Zoetrope's drum slits.

0:05 You used a praxinoscope. While it also uses pictrure strips and a spinning cylinder, a zoetrope uses slits while the praxinoscope uses mirrors to create a motion. A praxinoscope is the zoetrope's successor. Contrary to what was mentioned at 0:05, "praxinoscope" is not the French for "zoetrope." Their etymologies are different, though Ancient Greek in origin: praxinoscope: πρᾶξις/praxis (action) + σκοπεῖω/scopéō (look to) zoetrope: ζωή/zoe (life) + τρόπος/tropos (turning)

I think the spacing on the strip you used as a reference was specifically so that the "camera" panned across one frame per rotation. I think some of your works (the last one at least) would have benefited from a spacing that made made the subject seem stationery. Awesome work though! The animation looks surprisingly fluid!

Jazza, why don’t you try to do some dolls like Dollightful’s dragon series. You could really test you art skills, 3D modeling and printing, body shaping while keeping mobility, plus a bigger form of model painting!

There's a beautiful Chilean film called One Hundred Children Waiting A Train that's about a group of students in a very poor and heavily maginalized comunity in Chile who make a film about zootrope as their final test in art class. I highly recommend it.
