About Aaron Blaise:

Aaron Blaise is an animation feature film director and wildlife artist.
For 21 years Aaron worked with Disney helping to create some of the greatest animated films ever made. During that time he worked as an animator or supervising animator on "The Rescuers Down Under", "Beauty and the Beast", "Aladdin", "The Lion King", "Pocahontas", "Mulan" and more.
In 2003 he was co-director of "Brother Bear" for which he earned an Oscar nomination for Best Animated Feature Film.
After "Brother Bear" he helped to develop several projects but ultimately left Disney to pursue an opportunity back home in Florida. Aaron recently served as 2D Animation Supervisor and Character Designer for the "The Bear and the Hare" an advertisement loved by millions around the world. ( • Video )

That phrase belongs to no one. Yes Disney said it but what if Dinsey heard someone say that phrase before he even said it. Anyone could say that phrase and that doesn't mean they are copying it from someone else. No phrase belongs to no one. Anybody in history could of said it before and believe me they have. Disney taking tooooo much credit.

I always wanted to animate, but never liked digital art that became so popular in my generation. Now, I am not insulting digital artists, but it just isn't for me. But lately I have been practicing more traditional animation (like 30 seconds to 1 minute scenes) and I am starting to actually like what I draw. Anyway, just wanted to say thank you for the inspiration.

@@furryexterminator9600 what do you mean? flash animation or "puppet" animation? sure i agree, i looks like a cardboard cut out moving the joints only, but digital animation drawn frame by frame looks as smooth as the one on paper

The way you flip those pages ,alone, shows the years of experience behind it. This is basic animation technique, but you go beyond the basics and show real emotions through this 4 second shot. Simply amazing.

I have so much respect for people who do traditional animation. Animation itself is already a ton of work, but TRADITIONAL animation is just insane. I don't have the same kind of patience, so I'll be sticking with (hand drawn) Flash animation for now.

It's way more expensive to buy a tablet, and the tablets are kinda hard to get used too, drawing traditional is way easier as you can go ahead and put your skills to work.

I can remember a high-school friend of mine and myself would do animation as a time passer. We'd hook up usually on Friday evenings. He was exceptionally talented at drawing, and animation. Where I am more of a cartoonist. Between his work and mine, the sky was the limit. Great job here to this master of animation. Thank-you for sharing your skills.

I will not lie I laughed out loud when you said "Prismacolors don't erase well, so, I've just learned to kind of, not erase anything". Felt that with my soul, I live to use Prismacolor pencils and I definitely ignore most all of the erasing process now lol

The traditional animation has always been my favourite, for many reasons. One of them being that you can feel how much hard work was put into each frame, each little movement, and the fact that the animator needed to draw the same thing over and over and over again to make it move smoothly. Nowadays, with the help of computers, lots of these things have lost their touch--CGI and computer generated things are hard work, sure, but it's much more simple now because of rigging.

you're right, often times i watched ghibli movies along with friends and usually they are kind of boring to watch animated cartoons as i noticed that i keep remembering them how that shit that seem so childish if a fucking hard work! that one seconds is about 30 frames, this means that one second could have 30 fucking draw man and some movies could last even 2 hours make ur counts!

Nope. I too love all types of animation no matter what the medium is. As long as it tells a good story through the medium. :) I really hate people comparing two different mediums used for visual storytelling...like jeez

Exactly. The story is what's important. It's why Disney has certain periods of movies that are more popular than others despite using the same medium. It's why Pixar is more successful than DreamWorks despite both studios using the same medium.

20 years ago all I wanted to be was an animator for Disney, and for the first five of those years, I was told by art teachers and professionals that I shouldn't. When I graduated high school, I was told the same thing by a person I had high respect in an art school I attended. Like a young kid, I believed them. Now I'm almost 40 and I sit here watching this and thinking back on how dumb I was to listen to them. I don't care if I'm 60 years old, I'm not giving up. I may not be an animator for Disney, but eventually I will be one. Don't speak about ageism because that is a lie. Talent, is talent. Skill is skill, and I have more patience than a glacier. I want to thank you Mr. Blaise for this video. Had I not stumbled upon this all these years later, I'd still be stuck in a rut wondering if I made the right career choice.

I study animation at university both traditional and computer created. Whenever I see traditional animation come to life it puts SUCH a huge smile on my face! It's like bringing life and vibrancy to a character. It's literally like it has come to life and it's so magical!

This is so helpful! I use frames like this method to practice emotions and “in between” poses, since I struggle with things looking too stiff. This definitely helps me!

I love seeing the traditional method in action. Im dabbling a bit with animation in digital but I come from a background of pencil to paper. Working in ink has helpeda great deal too. You really have to visualize where you want to end up. Your method of not erasing is awesome!! Trying to use more of that in my sketching.

I have been a Disney animation fan for more than 50 years, and am absolutely DELIGHTED in having found your channel to watch this process, which is AMAZING!! As a construction professional, I was very fortunate to have done a few projects with the Imagineers in WDW FL, and loved being around the art directors and other creative folks. It is inspiring!!
