As someone who just finished both seasons just 3 days ago, it does hold up even in 2022. The dialogue and animation for this beats a lot of newer anime that seems to get old just after a year. The fact that the two protagonist are adults instantly make it stand out from a lot of teen-centric shows anime is known for.

Surprised you didn't cover the English dub voice acting. Brina Palencia's Holo was magical. She gave Holo a very mature, witty, and even flirtatious aristocratic flair. Michael J. Tatum was an excellent Lawrence too. If they both return for the new anime people are going to be ecstatic!

I really hope the anime won't flop, but even if it does, the light novels are really good, so there is that.

Spice & Wolf gives such a great warm feeling while watching it. Hoping the new one can do the same but with a bit more animation. Good work on the script, there was some nice wordplay in there Ember.

I've been going back to the classics myself and it's an amazing feeling when a fav holds up

Spice and Wolf in addition to being one of my first series (when I branched out from watching dubs exclusively), but the first series I actually went out of my way to find and buy the light novels as soon as they were released in NA. Still one of my favorite series to this day.

The openings to this show is fantastic to when you rewatch it I remember watching it back In 2018

Not a huge fan of the economics but it is fasinating to see a fantasy love story played through such a rough environment like that, it shines a bit of a light on how the old days might have been, even though this is a made up fantasy series. I just wish the anime would have continued to volume 4 where it actually gets good, they find her home, and continue into greater romance, which the anime doesn't cover much of, which makes it disappointing. At first I thought the show was boring, but loved their dynamic and as well as her being an ancient wolf girl/god, and as time went by in the show you understood more and it becomes a bit more interesting. Their love story and journey to find her homeland is really what shines through though, its sad they never finished it with the anime adaptation.. :( I kind of wish there was another show/anime out there like this.

I have caught up with tiger and bunny season 2 and it took me til July 2021 when checked out the show

Its a very nice show and well their pretty long struggle to get into a reletionship in this case, dare i say plays to their characters. Lorenz basicly never talked much to a woman before, running on the assumption he might think about a wife once he made his fortune and settles down and Holo is an old lady not having much sense for time, trying to make Lorenz bite while not rusing it at all. Also honestly its setting approprite as well to having a prolonged courting phase. Well not even 80 years ago people were holding hands for 2 years before maybe kissing once. Them taking a few months to start beeing a thing is fine.

I just really hope that it will be a s3 and not a reboot or something like that because i want to see the next adventures and more cute moments between them

I do agree with everything you said in this video. I started this anime on Netflix. I was not sure about it cause of Politics, Economic and Religion stuff was not interesting for me but when I sat down and watched it I was shocked how well and quick I fell in love with the characters and the world they created. I sometimes do not go back to shows and watch it with full attention but this anime show surprised me. I still get emotinal watching it and laugh with how lawerence and Holo (Horo) bicker at each other.

characters are beatifully designed Kraft for example feels like...you know,like a _real person_ ,in the sense that the way he behaves is genuinely believable,maybe Holo is a bit much on the "entitled bitch" side but that's as far as it goes no one has too amplified personalities (when characters do they're either extremely pervy,extremely anxious or extremely entitled) atmosphere and pacing however feel dead i mean i understand the focus on economics and synergy between the protagonists the show makes,but they take such a massive chonk of the screentime that they leave little time for anything interesting to happen i'm currently on chapter 2-7 and the only 2 times i watched the show out of genuine intrigue was in the gold smuggling arc and when Kraft almost looses it all for the fool's gold thing,but literally anytime rlse felt like a chore and i know it's set in the middle age but the landscapes and colors palettes are... _bland_ most of them i remember are either a shade of brown or grey - i rarely remember seeing a forest with all types of trees or a meadow full of flowers...almost everything has only 2 or 3 colors p.s.:i don't know much about the functioning of a medieval economy,but i can tell you one small thing for sure:their explanation of supply and demand is spot on,so don't worry about _that_

As someone who only watched it for the first time last year, I have to say this series DOES absolutely hold up. But... "The first main appeal of Spice & Wolf - Economics" ... This may be true for many, but since I managed to avoid spoilers (all I knew was that it was considered a classic & pretty wolf girl) I was a little taken aback by this focus. I still finished both seasons, and enjoyed it for what it was, but I couldn't shake the disappointment of what I feel I missed out on; the cozy slice-of-life hijinks of a mysterious deity and the human she helps run a business with. So yeah, Spice & Wolf definitely holds up and I am actually looking forward to the new season. I guess on my initial watch, I just learned more about keeping my expectations in check than I did about economics.
