I can explain the show: The reason his hair turned white was because he was tortured for ten days in the manga. His hair slowly fell out, but it regrew white, hair by hair with his regenerative power. The reason his nails turned black was because the blood in them dried up. The reason he lost his memory and became ccg member was because Kishou Arima (white reaper) won the battle and stabbed Kaneki through his eyes, and hit the part of his brain that held his memory. So he lost it.

I remember for years I thought that in the torture scene Jason was pulling out his nails because they turned black. I thought he was pulling out the nails, they were bleeding a bunch, then they regrew and the blood under the nails dried up and turned black. But I rewatched it yesterday and it turns out he was cutting off his fingers and toes. So I’m not exactly sure why there was blood around his nails because the regeneration process doesn’t seem to be very bloody.

Tokyo Ghoul before reading the manga is just hilarious and not even that sad! After reading the Manga you just see how much Sui Ishida's work has been wronged and changed and just straight up cut short, the Anime of Tokyo Ghoul would have definitely needed at least 30 Episodes per season to truly capture the side characters and their emotions as well as make more sense

I just think that the manga portrayed the emotions in those characters way better than the anime and it also made more sense in the manga but the point that made Tokyo Ghoul so good for me is the Narrative and how there is no good or bad and everything is depicted in a morally grey area and makes you think about what could have been done to avoid tragedies such as are depicted in Tokyo Ghoul and no matter how you put it, it definitely says a lot about the real world and how people feel who live between two conflicting worlds and what it's like to see everyone you liked get killed and still be able to understand your enemies motivations and humanize your enemies, it tells us something about the worst pats of conflict and what is actually worth saving and what's worth letting go! That's the main reason i like Tokyo Ghoul, i also like the concept of the Grey Jedis in Star Wars (still hate what Disney did) but you get what i mean!

@@kristenyarbrough4287 The manga is much better in my opinion than the anime (since its also the source lol) it is explained better yes, but the ending in the manga felt kind of rushed, because they added random stuff and didn't explain it, but I really think its worth reading. The only sad thing is that you can't hear ken kaneki's finger cracking when he gets mad. FYI Gigguk made a video about the manga of tokyo ghoul, he probably did a better explanation than I did. GO watch it
