i hate people saying the show is only popular cause of the animation. The story is amazingly well executed, it may be simple but its very dark for a Shonen, and tackles real world historical themes and problems that still resonate in this day and age. For instance the characters have amaizng motivations, Gyu was badly abused by his own mother, she tried to kill him as an infant and repeatedly as he grew and actually succeeded in killing many of his infant brothers and sisters. Daki was literally made to work as a CHILD PROSTITUTE, she was used as a sex worker starting from childhood, repeatedly molested and raped by "honorable samurai" adult customers. Not only her but the whole district is rife with child prostitution and the abuse of these woman who have no other choice than to starve or lead this life These were real things that happened during the time period Demon Slayer is set in There is a REASON why, unlike many other Shonen, Demon Slayer is set in the real country of Japan during a REAL historical era (and an interesting one, as its during the period when Japan was being heavily influenced by tech, culture and atrocities of colonial powers. You can see this in the difference between rural area Demon slayer and the City area Demon slayer environments. Sure it adds the fictional demon slayer corps for the Shonen aspect but the characters are, much of the time, molded by the historical and cultural forces of the real world Japan of the era People dont give Demon Slayer enough credit, people love to shit on it just cause its popular and pretend that its a shallow show thats only good cause of animation and fight scenes. Thing is though even those elements are amazling well executed, specifically the plotting and planning out of the fight and action scenes, and that isnt just about animation Koyoharu Gotouge really made a series with smart plot n setting, wrapped up in a fun shonen, to confront young shonen readers with important issues.

This is a very accurate representation of the first season and I'm living for it. 🤣
