Many newcomers to Buddhism observe lots of animistic and superstitious activities within and around the religion. But in Buddhism there is no clause of exclusivity. Plus, many of the stories directly from the early Buddhist texts are what you might consider to be very animistic/superstitious. These are the stories that comprise the culture.
