It was the same for me. I've had Future Retro and this permanently stuck in my brain since it was revealed to me in elementary school I believe it was, mid-late 90s. Then one magical day, it hits me about 2 years ago, time of your posting - the name, Animusic. I was just going about my day and my whole world stopped and I said out loud, ANIMUSIC! Off to youtube, and time capsuled back into that time my awesome music teacher back in the day showed the class.

I feel like I owe this song a public apology. I was introducing Animusic to my mom and after watching a couple of tunes, she clicked on this one, and I advised her "No, this one isn't very good, try another one", and she did. If I'm honest, the real reason I wanted my mom to skip this one is that the 4:06 onwards where the camera swoops down and the music just kinda builds actually made me tear up a little. So sorry, Acoustic Curves, you're an awesome tune 🙂.

Any other geeks out there think this particular Animusic might actually be possible to make? You'd have to have a sounding board for all the strings or you wouldn't get much volume out of them. But compared to other Animusic vids, this one has dedicated mallets for each struck element rather than artificial human arms or strikers that move around on rails. That makes the mechanics a lot easier. Who wants to work on the hardware and who wants to write the software? :-D

I have the exact same feeling but I can’t place where it might be from. I do know that “Cathedral Pictures” from Animusic 2 heavily references a pre-written classical piece, so it’s not impossible there are some similar inspirations here. Either way this is a genius piece of art and one of my faves

I don't know if I'm just remembering it from when I was younger and confusing myself, if it's a big mix-up of tunes that remind me of other songs, or if there an actually song out there my brain is trying to get me to remember. Just- that 4:10 to 4:40 reminds me of SOMETHING. Oh, and Pokemon. There is definitely some Pokemon battle-theme mixed in there in places.

The humble music artist, starting small with an original heartfelt song using all they have, slowly getting people to find them, and they start to get more equipment, and more to make music with, though soon they follow with what is popular and start going with everyone else, but they can’t help but feel nostalgic and wanna go back to what they had, and finally at their peak they burn out, they make one last goodbye message, heartfelt and truly meaningful, reflecting on everything they had done, and then, they leave, for someone else to take their place. That’s what I think of when I hear this song honestly, and I’m never gonna think of something different, since that’s what this song truly means to me

I see a story in my head: purple guitar starts us off: young, frolicking around, pausing every now and then to maybe smell a flower or something. she (I just feel it’s a she) then meets yellow (guitar? piano? harpsichord?) and invites him to frolic, before continuing on her merry way. soon, she notices Yellow hasn’t followed her, and returns to ask what’s on his mind. after a conversation, he decides to give that frolicking thing a try, but tries to copy what she did. when he pauses to ask her if he’s doing it right, she tells him to just do whatever’s in his heart. that’s when he breaks out into that rock riff, with Purple standing by watching to see in what beautiful direction this goes. blue bass and drum show up; Purple wonders who they are, but that question leaves her mind as they join in with Yellow. Purple finds her opportunity to add her voice to the music, and the song is born. I made that up as I went along, drawing from emotions I perceived in the instruments. It might not make much sense but idc

I remember when I was three years old, I had to go to the doctor’s office to get shots (standard vaccinations.) I really didn’t want to get them, much like any child, but my mom told me she’d get me a prize if I went through with getting the shots. You see, at the time, I really enjoyed watching a DVD my parents had in the children’s disk library in our kids room. It was called “Robots.” Well, I called it that anyway. You couldn’t have convinced me otherwise. After all, there were robots in the first song. Why wouldn’t it be called that? Turns out, despite my child mind and its thinky skills, it was actually called “Animusic 2.” So a week before I had to get my shots, we were shopping at a Best Buy, and my mom saw a copy of Animusic (which was of course called “Robots 2” at the time.) She promised that if I got my shots, she would buy me Robots 2. I cried when I got the shots, but I was the happiest kid when it was over.

I remember my dad letting me watch the first and second one on VHS. One of the big reasons why I'm so music-inclined today. 💞
