Yeah that’s a big deal in the comics too - Mark’s really strong because he’s part human! Viltrumites are purely emotionless fighters, but Mark being part human allows him to get adrenaline rushes during fights and accomplish feats of strength he otherwise wouldn’t be able to do.

For those wondering, no, Anissa is NOT stronger than Nolan. Even in spite of his rage, Nolan was holding back more against Mark than Anissa was here. Mark's also gotten stronger, and learned how to take hits from people in his own weight class. Not strong enough though. Yet.

One of the great things this brief battle does is show the differences between Anissa and the other Viltrumites seen so far. There's an economy of motion to everything she does that contrasts with Nolan's showy, hot-blooded brutality. She just shifts her body a few inches to the side to dodge Mark's swings. Whereas Nolan and Mark both fight with their upper body like a brawler, Anissa uses her entire body like a gymnast.

Mark kind of won this encounter low key. He refused Anissa’s offer to join the empire, and survived Anissa’s attack. Anissa’s task was to either convince Mark to join the empire or beat mark into submission to join the empire and she failed at both.
