How could ANYONE love such a self-centered and selfish woman? It's not possible.

It's called being "madly in love" for good reason. You lose all perspective. You're blinded to any truth other than your own. If you haven't experienced it, then you don't know what it's like, and I feel sorry for you.

People in the comments calling out Anna left and right but not acknowledging even once what may have been the factors for her behaviour to have been this way. You have to understand that Anna was extremely lonely because her choices resulted in complete alienation from society. Imagine being born and raised into a noble family and then losing everything in hope for a happy life with a man she truly loved. But neither of them were ready for the consequences. If only she didn't bear the burden of such a heavy guilt for her choices, she wouldn't have been this lonely.

@@paulscottfilms Absolutely! What a harpy! A constant whiner and narcissistic beyond belief with a great dollop of permanent victim syndrome. As much as I loathe this particular Anna, (she's wrong on too many levels) and I've seen them all both in English and Russian, I think this Vronsky is one of the very best. He breaks my heart...

Where are Kitty and Levin? Where is Tolstoy's Anna Karenina, anyway?
@antonellacozzi408
@antonellacozzi408 Жыл бұрын

I started out loving this series - highly appreciative of the quality of the production and the acting.. But the adaptations to the plot have slowly ground my interest to a halt and the eponymous heroine's petulant self-obsession has just become irritating.. The integration of the Manchurian campaign is just not good enough to relieve the boredom.. Cutting out Kitty and Levin was a bad idea...

@@melissajanaemiddleton6811 I'm afraid we are almost certainly dealing with the self-projection of the director on to the plot with more than a hint of anachronistic wokery..I believe in Russia this is called mirroring. Considering the budget and excellent of the technical production, it is more than a shame it's a disgraceful sad waste. Let us hope we do not see more expensive butchering of Russian classics!

@@simonlee8889 Well said, Simon! "Anachronistic wokery"... haha, perfectly described. Yes, I was thinking again about this version of Anna Karenina since our last comments. For all the hope I initially felt about the movie, whatever small bit of care I did have for the characters was quickly decimated by the callous lack of development of same, and what should have been a deeply passionate coming together of Anna and Vronsky barely evoked the slightest bit of care in me. Any heart or soul that could have been fostered was instead entirely swallowed up by the indulgent over-production and empty portrayals. Such a shame! I don't know if you've seen the version of the story that starred Vittoria Puccini and Santiago Cabrera... I recommend it highly! The production was lush, but so too were the characters and the sensitive handling of all the intersecting dynamics within the various relationships. Not unimportantly, the musical score served to perfectly support and enhance the diverse array of events and emotions. I think it will serve as a satisfying antidote to this Russian version of which we speak :)

I think she is either consciously or subconsciously marking the class difference between her husband and herself or it cannot be explained that she run as crazy as that. She sought to be politically different as far as that she could not live any longer with her husband, but no such evidence seems to be reflected in this film. I will delve deeper by reading the novel through. I did not take the time to finish reading it before.

Anna Karenina is a manipulator. I read the novel, and something about the novel. Tolstoy, three years before starting to write the novel, declared that he imagined the character of a woman who is unhappy, but not guilty of anything. I also watched a couple of movies. Sophie Marceau is charming and doesn't allow judgment. But the CHOICE OF THE ACTRESS in this series is adequately adjusted to show us the real truth about the ugly behavior of women, and not only at the end of the 19th century. And the victims are Karenin and Vronsky, little Sergei and Anya.
