Lyrics:
2 AM and she calls me 'cause I'm still awake,
"Can you help me unravel my latest mistake?
I don't love him. Winter just wasn't my season."
Yeah we walk through the doors, so accusing their eyes
Like they have any right at all to criticize.
Hypocrites, you're all here for the very same reason
'Cause you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable
And life's like an hourglass, glued to the table
No one can find the rewind button, girl.
So cradle your head in your hands
And breathe... just breathe,
Oh breathe, just breathe
May he turn 21 on the base at Fort Bliss
Just today he sat down to the flask in his fist,
Ain't been sober, since maybe October of last year.
Here in town you can tell he's been down for a while,
But, my God, it's so beautiful when the boy smiles,
Wanna hold him. Maybe I'll just sing about it.
'Cause you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable,
And life's like an hourglass, glued to the table.
No one can find the rewind button, boys,
So cradle your head in your hands,
And breathe... just breathe,
Oh breathe, just breathe
There's a light at each end of this tunnel,
You shout 'cause you're just as far in as you'll ever be out
And these mistakes you've made, you'll just make them again
If you'd only try turning around.
2 AM and I'm still awake, writing a song
If I get it all down on paper, it's no longer inside of me,
Threatening the life it belongs to
And I feel like I'm naked in front of the crowd
'Cause these words are my diary, screaming out loud
And I know that you'll use them, however you want to
But you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable,
And life's like an hourglass, glued to the table
No one can find the rewind button now
Sing it if you understand.
And breathe, just breathe
Whoa breathe, just breathe,
Oh breathe, just breathe,
Oh breathe, just breathe.

We played a gig tonight and in the audience were two very nice looking women. My guitar player said. "Hey! You look like a singer" They laughed and said yes. Nothing more was said until they came up to say they enjoyed our little gig. It was indeed Anna and her mother. What blown me away was how so very nice and down to earth she is. Her mother is the same way. They are both gorgeous inside and out.

This song touches my soul and has such a great message. "Life is like an hour glass glued to the table" just reminds me that life just keeps moving forward. No matter how hard you want to change your past mistakes, no matter what regrets you want to erase, life has no "rewind button". We all have to live with our regrets and imperfections and try to move on.

My wife and I saw her sing live a couple weeks ago (November 2014). She's the real deal. She was able to just stand there and sing in great pitch and with great expressiveness with a single accompanist. (No autotune!!) She said she was trying out new material for a forthcoming album. She did Breathe as her closing number, but both her old and new stuff was terrific. I am certainly looking forward to the new collection in 2015.

man, whatever happened to these kind of artists?...I only listen to Rock music, but I would say the late 90's to early 2000's, these kind of tunes were my guilty pleasure...I mean those were the days when Pop artists you hear on the radio really got "talents" i.e. Jewel, Michelle Branch, Vannesa Carlton, Alanis Morisette, Tori Amos, Norah Jones, young Avril, Sixpence None the Richer to name a few...

I heard this song in a store today and it somehow fit the atmosphere. It was almost eerily quiet, with everyone walking around in their own "zone" and it made me curious about what they all may be carrying around with them (baggage). And I couldn't help but wonder if this song was effecting them the same way as it was me. I'm not depressed or anything. I was simply letting the mood of the song permeate my brain. And the imagery is universal enough that most people can relate to it from one angle or another. Great songs can do that. This video is the first time I've ever seen her, or heard her live as well. And I got to say, Wow. Not only is she beautiful but she seems to have a classiness that's refreshing. And this has to be one of the best songs produced in the first decade of this century. She deserves to be bigger. Only in the atmosphere of modern music would talented artists like Anna have to take a backseat to the 40-watt mind fodder that passes for music today. Great words, great voice, and again, friggin hot.

Just had to do one of the most difficult, nerve wrecking things of my life and I ended up sweating and more tense than ever. This song helped me get through the aweful feeling and breath again. So, thank you Anna Nallick

Makes you want to be the one she is referring to the way she sings the following, "But my God it's so beautiful when the boy smiles. Wanna hold him. Maybe I'll just sing about it".

That's why I looked up this song but this is not the FM radio version I first liked ... she's so speeded up it almost sounds anxious compared to the version I'm speaking about where she sounds more reflective and consoling.Anyways... God Bless All...Stay Well !!!

I sent this song to my loving friend as he was recovering from a Big car crash. Just saw him today, even hugged him, ouch! I just asked him to play it at least once a day. Especially when she says " by God its beautiful when the boy smiles", I told him that will happen again, he will laugh that laugh that lights up the world.

My dream girl no doubt...but having a "hit" is a different thing. She's written some other amazing songs like "Knots" but they just didn't take off; i love them them the same though. I'm just glad we have her :)

OMG! I knew this song from a while back, but this acoustic version is absolutely beyond awesome. Anna Nalick is not only gorgeous but talented. She's also wearing a dress for this performance - is that even done anymore? Total class wrapped up in a single package - beauty, talent and genuine class. Thank you Anna.

A near magical song, guy or girl haven't most of us been through the raw frustration and beauty of real love so tense, fragile and yet somehow wonderful.
